I have many thoughts
hey remember when karen is literally shown to become progressively more of an alcoholic throughout the seasons due to being trapped in a loveless marriage until the final season in which she's finishing a whole bottle of wine on a random day of the week while they're yelling at each other loud enough that holly can hear them from her bedroom and then karen's still married to ted in the epilogue. great job guys.
post s3 erica is worried about her friends steve and robin because they're both really skittish and weird and they keep jumping and flinching at everything and she's like what's wrong with them... and dustin's like well they did get a little tortured i guess :/ and erica's like (eleven years old) but that was three whole weeks ago 🤨 and dustin's like ever heard of trauma 🙄 and erica's like shut up dipshit i have to go i have plans. and then she goes and hangs out with her little posse and feels very odd and out of place and she's noticing all of these little things she hasn't before and she's like what's that. and her little friend is like what? oh my bracelet? it's a medical alert it's because i'm allergic to penicillin. so if i'm like dying in public doctors know i can't have penicillin. and erica's like oh. hm. and her other friend is like oh that's like my cousin's dog he has to wear a vest in public that says NERVOUS on it so people don't come up to him and scare him.
and while her friends start arguing about comparing each other to nervous dogs erica is thinking very hard about her dear pals who are kinda losers but they stayed behind to let her escape the russians... and she's like hm they're like that nervous dog.... i should do something to help them. because they are such weak little losers obviously.
next day erica walkies steve and is like bring robin to my house NOW. they arrive very worried and she presents them with two little beaded bracelets (way more colorful than these and with little heart and star shaped beads too).
they're like wh. and she's like they're medical alert bracelets. for your russian trauma. and she says this so sincerely and she is so eleven years old that steve and robin make eye contact and they're immediately like erica that's really thoughtful of you thank you SO much.
and then they get in steve's car and they drive like halfway down the road before steve has to park because they're both laughing so hard they're crying and robin's like i'm never taking this off ever and steve is like oh my god she put glitter beads on mine is yours glittery?? and robin's like YES AND I THINK THE HEART GLOWS IN THE DARK!! and they literally laugh so hard they almost throw up. and they never take them off ever 🩷
every universe except this one, i guess.

“I’m sorry about the Beamer,” Dustin says.
He doesn’t know why he blurts it out, just like that.
He’s so tired he can barely turn his head to look at Steve, who’s lying on the air mattress his mom dug out again, wedged right next to Dustin’s bed.
Steve looks wide awake, wired. Fingers drumming against his chest. He frowns slightly, like he’s processing Dustin’s words, and then exhales. A soft, Huh.
“I actually, uh, forgot about it,” he says. Laughs quietly. “I guess it’s kinda…” He blows out air from his cheeks and gestures vaguely. Dustin doesn’t point out that his hand is shaking. “Like, flying through time or something, right?” He smiles. “Like the DeLorean.”
“I’m still sorry,” Dustin says because right now it’s all he knows how to say; because he doesn’t know how to cover it all; of the familiar thunk of the car door slamming shut; of his muddy footprints ingrained in the front; of relaxing into his seat, hearing Steve sing along to the radio under his breath, thinking I’m safe here, I’m safe here, I’m safe—
“Stop apologising, bud,” Steve says, almost offhand, almost normal, but there’s a waver right at the end, and…
“I just—” Dustin tries, but it’s all he gets out before Steve moves abruptly to sit on his bed, looks down at him so seriously.
“Dustin, it’s a car,” he says firmly. A sudden shadow, just for a moment; something haunted in his eyes.
Dustin’s throat still hurts from screaming. The sting of the skin underneath his fingernails, from clinging onto the metal of the radio tower; an ache in his knee from when he wobbled on the ladder. Steve screaming his name as he fell in the Abyss and thinking, briefly, That’s the last thing I’ll ever hear.
“I can replace—” Steve’s voice breaks. “It’s just a car.”
And he’s pulling Dustin into the tightest hug. He’s shaking; they both are.
“We’re okay,” Dustin says.
Steve echoes it, high-pitched, vulnerable. “Okay. Okay, okay, okay.”
Dustin does the only thing he can. He holds on.

ROBIN BUCKLEY & NANCY WHEELER Stranger Things, Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up
The bard, craving knowledge, makes his way to the Mage’s Guild of Enclave, where he spends his days in their vast libraries. Though deeply devoted to his studies, he still makes time for the occasional adventure.
STRANGER THINGS 5.08: The Rightside Up
Am I the only one who found it weird, off-putting, and unnecessary when Hopper was talking El down from suicide (self-sacrifice, same thing) and used the fact that she might have a kid of her own one day as a reason for her to stay alive? El is a teenage girl who has not once expressed any desire to become a mother in the future. She is traumatized and has never had any agency in her life. She is also, I must repeat, a teenage girl. Why are we using becoming a mother as motivation to talk down a teenager from suicide? Why are we acting like this is something El wants and has always wanted? Why do male writers always reduce female characters’ bodies to their ability to make babies? Women and girls’ lives are not valuable because of their ability to have children—we are inherently valuable no matter what our bodies may or may not be capable of, whether or not we want kids at all. Our lives have worth because they are ours.
Genuine question: what’s the difference between Mike Wheeler and the bigots in Hawkins? Because he told Lucas he can’t dress up as white characters for Halloween like a racist, he was homophobic to Will now with no explanation (despite being the only one that defended Will against homophobes in s1), and he is sexist to El repeatedly. He’s literally no different than the jocks that hunted Eddie, no different than his bullies from school, no different than the guys that beat up Dustin, etc.
the funniest part of the finale is that even though it was meant to shut byler down not one part of it convinced me that mike isn’t in love with will or that will was over his “crush” on mike. their relationship is so much deeper than just their romantic feelings but even if those brief shared looks and brushed elbows went nowhere i 1000% believe they’re both still in love
