An Evening in London (Complete) It’s the 23rd of December. This is Miles’ evening in five acts. This was written for the Milex Big Bang 2019 and was based on Gerard Reve’s The Evenings.

The Galaxy’s Edge (Complete) Alex hasn’t been feeling like himself. He’s used to it – tour life usually makes him feel a bit out of it, as if he were drifting in space - but it does put a strain on his relationship with the rest of the band and his girlfriend Taylor. Miles, his best friend turned lover, calls him up twice a week to make sure he doesn’t drift too far. Their biweekly ritual helps Alex. The same can’t be said for Taylor, who is perfectly aware of what Miles really is to her boyfriend. And so the Monkeys tour continues, Alex drifts and Miles anchors. But is it really drifting if you know exactly where you need to be?”

Amsterdam Miles overhears a group of people in the audience singing “Where the fuck is Alex Turner?” as soon as he leaves the stage after his first gig of the European tour. Feeling like he’s lost control of his own tour, Miles calls Alex up, fully intending to blame him for everything. Luckily, Alex knows just how to prove to him that he’s still very much in control after all. 

A Little Distorted Alex famously has trouble putting his thoughts into words sometimes, but it’s not supposed to be like that when it’s just him and Miles. However, after a long time apart, Alex isn’t sure they’re still as comfortable with each other as they once were.

A Last Shadow Snippet Miles and Alex are on tour together. They get up to things in Alex’s hotel room. Miles reflects. Also, they enjoy themselves, because of course they do.

I’ll Wear A Mask For You A silly little drabble inspired by Miles in makeup.

The Sun Machine Is Coming Down Øyafestivalen 2016. Miles and Alex are on stage together. Alex decides that he really needs a cuddle right when Miles starts playing a guitar solo. Miles is more than happy to indulge him, because who needs personal space, anyway?

There’s A Brand New Dance Apparently both Alex and Miles attended the Celine fashion show in Paris the other day. There are no pictures of them together (yet?), so I wrote one. That’s it. That’s the story.

The Meeting Place(One shot) He doesn’t have the time to think about how much he hurt them both. All he wants is to just drown out those thoughts. They’re the last ones that bring any sort of emotion with them, so he might as well get rid of them.

Still Afloat  “We’ll be all over the internet within a few minutes if you keep doing that,” Miles warns him, and Alex shrugs. “Like old times, then,” he says. “I can handle it. Can you?”

In for Better Weather  It’s bad weather for me sometimes - that’s just how it is. No one can avoid being in a bad mood every once in a while. But Al’s thing, that’s not about it being bad weather at all. It’s about climate rather than weather, and his climate has changed entirely. 

One Shots

Tumblr Ficlets A collection of ficlets that I posted on Tumblr. Some are fluffy, some are a little dark. I will specify which tags and/or trigger warnings are applicable before each ficlet.

Noise Miles’ chest is heaving with anger and he can feel the vein in his neck that Alex is very obviously staring at pulse. “Well?” he asks, his voice bordering on shrill. He clears his throat. “Are you gonna say anythin’ at all tonight, or are you just here to stare at me? Because if that’s the plan, I’m going to bed and I’ll expect you to be out of my house come mornin’, Al.”

Mardy Bum Whenever Alex gets broken up with, he drags himself to Miles’s place for a good sulking session and even better sex. However, this time Miles isn’t having any of it. (Or: Alex and Miles are idiots.)

Contact Alex has trouble getting out of bed. Miles comforts him.

Picture Book It’s a chilly Sunday morning and Miles and Alex go for a walk in the park together. Alex is bundled up in an oversized coat and Miles doesn’t know how to properly dress himself for autumn. They bicker about Alex’s penchant for taking artsy analogue photos.

Why Colour in the Lines Miles isn’t great at transitioning from tour life to home life. Alex has turned up at his new flat to make the transition go a bit smoother. They both really want to think that he’s helping. Partly inspired by the interview about music and mental health Miles did for the Elevate Music Podcast.

Dinner for Two  After spending the night at Miles’ place, Alex always leaves in the morning. However, this time the lights in the bedroom are still on when Miles returns home after a long day at the studio.

Thank you sooo much @born2slippy for this beautiful piece of art, and also @richiebrook for this wonderful gift! I've never had such an amazing piece of fanart made of one of my stories before, and I will treasure this forever.

It's hard to express how much I loved writing for the Milex fandom, and how much those stories still mean to me now, especially Somewhere Darker. The last few years have held some personal challenges for me, including a lengthy period of writer's block, but I have recently begun to dip my toe and try again, this time with a non-fandom project that I hope one day might be a novel. It's early days, but I am starting to write again, little by little.

I love that this scene which @richiebrook has chosen to immortalise in fanart is the one where Alex first learns to connect to the power of his own unconscious; that place of creative inspiration and desire. It is the perfect scene for where I am right now in my journey, trying to reconnect to my own creative drive.

This wonderful piece of work will sit proudly on my desk, and every time I look at it, I will remember what is possible and I will feel inspired to keep on writing.

It took me fourteen years to finish my novel. I despised myself all throughout those years (and before those fourteen years, and after them - where else did you think those sad!Alex fics came from lol). I despised myself while I was doing my bachelor’s degree, my master’s degree, and while I was working my first job(s). And in between all those things, I kept writing.

And, you know what, I did do all those things. I do not believe I deserve a master's degree, but I made it to the end despite everything my brain was throwing at me. I ended up being able to support myself. I adopted two bunnies that live like royalty. And I did finish my novel.

I wrote agonisingly slowly because I had no way of turning off the voice in my head that said I wasn't literary enough, wasn't intelligent enough, wasn't intellectual enough. When I was eighteen, I started writing this story because I felt that Sebastian, my main character, had to be set free. I wanted his story to be out there, I wanted to prove to him that there's a place for him in this world. But

I did not manage to get it out there. His story keeps being rejected by every publisher I send it to, even the people in publishing that I know. Perhaps I was right to hate everything I wrote. After all, Sebastian is still stuck in between the lines of my manuscript. Part of me wishes someone with real literary talent had written him.

He would have hated that

but I still wish I were a better writer. I owe it to him.

I wake up every day feeling like something big's about to happen. I sit at my desk at my job in the book field (not literary field, mind) every day and feel like I am finally in the right place, like I'm finally home. But nothing ever happens.

I want nothing more than to set Sebastian free.

But he's not allowed out there. Because of my lack of talent. He's not allowed to walk free and that is my fault.

Writing is everything to me. I can't and won't quit.

But.

Miles's touch lingers. Long fingers caress the sensitive skin of Alex's wrist. They tease. They hold the promise of more - more touching, more whispers, more secrets (of the best kind). It isn't enough. It's never enough.

"Bye, love," says Miles.

There won't be more.

Miles kisses Alex's cheek and turns on his heel. Alex snorts. At his own naivety, perhaps. At the pathetic sound of his own heart breaking, maybe. He watches Miles walk to the tube station and knows that this is the end of it. He should go after him, shout his name, stop him stop him.

Miles disappears down the station steps.

Alex lights a cigarette. He's going to have to find a closeness like this, like the closeness he and Miles had for decades, with someone else.
