INCEPTION (2010)
It's that feeling of falling you get that jolts you awake. It snaps you out of the dream. INCEPTION (2010)
always forget how much eames and arthur literally carry the fischer job on their backs. killing dozens of men in impossible conditions while yusuf Drives a Normal Van and cobb and ariadne Have a Loud Conversation. saito innocent he got shot in the damn chest. everyone else ASLEEP on the job. WAKE UP!
eames is james bonding it down a fucking mountain. getting avalanched. ripping men off snowmobiles. arthur's doing fucking judo holds in zero gravity. throwing men off paradox steps. shooting guys on the damn ceiling. and doing MATH on top of it all!!! meanwhile cobb is just Yelling Exposition while ariadne Asks Questions. i'd like to negotiate the fact that everyone's getting an equal share here. i'm contacting the fucking union
i know eames was sitting in arthur's alarmingly minimalist LA penthouse that night absolutely demolishing a $3,000 bottle of scotch telling arthur i'm sorry darling i know you've got an unaccountable soft spot but i'm never working with that layabout cunt again. he insists somehow he's sore from all that tumbling down a mountain even though it wasn't real. if he ever hears ariadne urgently yell EAMES!! over a comm like there's no one else on the bloody job he won't be legally responsible for his actions. arthur meanwhile spent so long in zero g he keeps falling down stairs. it's not because he drank half the $3,000 bottle. it's not. shut up, mr. eames. you've never had a hallway decide to turn into a fucking washing machine. you've never had to float in a goddamn elevator shaft. and eames is like mmm i'll float in your elevator shaft, darling, which makes no sense but it works on arthur anyways. he's easy except when he decides to be difficult. but i digress

DAY 18: THE HOODED COWLS as seen in A View to A Kill (1985).
The year was 1985 and James Bond was moving with the times in A View to a Kill. "They were chasing fashion and looking to reach a wider audience by involving more pop and rock," said Grace Jones, who played the statuesque, unforgettable May Day. "They definitely wanted this to be a rock 'n' roll MTV Bond." That's why they originally attempted to cast David Bowie as Max Zorin, the Thin White Duke-esque villain of the film. Bowie turned the part down, and filmmakers instead shaped Christopher Walken's look in his image. And who better to cast alongside him than one of the decade's most forward-thinking artists?
The most consistent and recognisable parts of May Day's costumes were the hoods and cowls featured underneath most of her leather outfits. Paired with the leather jackets, they nodded to '80s streetwear, but leaned into a '40s-style silhouette. They also informed the colour of her eyeshadow in any given look. You could imagine them in a cyberpunk context, or in one of the other big movies of the decade, Blade Runner – the role of Zhora was one Grace Jones always regretted turning down.
Jones came to the film with a passion for fashion like no one else the franchise had ever cast. As a child, she'd developed a love of crocheting and sewing her own costumes, so, as costume designer Emma Porteous put it, there was no way in the world anyone could force Grace Jones into a garment she didn't like. She had a lot of input into her character's clothing: "I knew what I wanted, how I was going to look as a 'Bond girl'," Jones said. "I looked at Disney colours, because I figure being a 'Bond girl' was like being in a cartoon…I took in tips I had learned from Issey [Miyake] and Kenzo, and had direct input from one of my other designers who became a friend, Azzedine Alaïa." Porteous collaborated with Alaïa to refine May Day's wardrobe, focusing on a strong silhouette and building from there.
The result was a series of looks as singular as Jones herself: equal parts high fashion and combat gear, and both of its time and far ahead of it.

devastating when good characters are put into a stupid show. you were born to fly but that evil hag of a showrunner clipped your golden wings. be free on ao3, my little dove. be free
it gets to a point that is just weirder if they didn't fuck
Went to see The Odyssey tonight and all the reaction I have for you is a very deep sigh.

DAY 18: THE CORDUROY MASSIMO ALBA 'SLOOP' SUIT as seen in No Time To Die (2021).
At the beginning of No Time To Die, James Bond might have been on holiday, but that was no excuse for poor fashion. Moreover, a grave visit – specifically to Vesper Lynd’s grave – was hardly going to happen in anything other than a tie. The answer to respectable holiday fashion was clear to costume designer Suttirat Anne Larlarb: a relaxed suit.
Larlarb explained: "He starts at a point in which we’ve never seen him before. It’s very clear at the beginning of our film that he’s made a choice to reject his old life. So, in order to do that, there were some rules that I felt were really necessary to have that relaxation visually…it’s the most relaxed version of a romantic getaway travel look without being like a structured Safari suit..It just needed to telegraph romance, travel and luxury all in one outfit.”
From Massimo Alba, the so-called ‘Sloop’ suit was unlined and made from a fine corduroy. It had three pockets with flap on the front of the jacket, double vents on the back and four buttons on the cuff. Lalarb chose the suit in the colour ‘Desert,’ matching the stony, sandy surroundings of Matera – clothes that blend into the background are common across the film. Leaning into its Italian roots, Lalarb then paired the suit with a blue Brunello Cucinelli Oxford shirt. The look was finished off with Drake's Crosby boots, Albert Thurston braces and a textured Alexander Olch tie.
Once again, Daniel Craig was at the heart of his character’s choices: he’d recently bought a pair of fine-ribbed corduroy jeans for his own use and liked them so much he mentioned Massimo Alba to the costume buyers. Maybe he knew it would be comfortable enough to perform a few stunts in.
Fans of the ‘Sloop’ suit can find it on Massimo Alba’s website for $1,667.

honestly one of my favorite things about fanfic is when you can see the canon influences come out in really subtle ways. like a canon line thats mentioned once as a throwaway is suddenly the entire premise for a fic or it influences the characterization or something. its just so cool to see how people weave their ideas around a source material, especially if its not a detail i'd thought about before
often you will see things online where you just have to be like "what a strange thing to say" or "i don't think that's true :)" to yourself and try to move on or you will lose your mind

DAY 17: THE RED BLOUSE AND SKIRT as seen in Skyfall (2012).
Skyfall was a film with plenty of casting overhauls: Ralph Fiennes stepping in as M, Ben Whishaw redefining the role of Q, Rory Kinnear bringing back Bill Tanner, and, perhaps most glamorous and electrifying of all, Naomie Harris stepping into Miss Moneypenny's heels (via, of course, some flats in the field).
Moneypenny's first appearance — though we don't yet know who she is — positions her style as professional but arguably far more practical than Bond's. While he clings to the armour of a fine suit, she is dressed (relatively) much more casually. She continues to play with convention off the field, too. As she flirts with a shirtless Bond in his Macau hotel room, she's dressed in amped-up officewear: a red silk blouse with cloverleaf lapels, a red pencil skirt and a wide tan leather belt fastened with a gold buckle. It's as bold as any red dress in the series, and it says plenty about her: that she's fiery, daring and willing to play by the rules of professionalism (the cut of her clothes) so long as she can bend them where she likes (the colour).
This Moneypenny had clearly come a long way from asking Bond to bring her back a diamond ring.
