Poppy Drayton behind the scenes for Home by Spring

âI donât miss out any important details, it helps me - stay focused.â It had turned into somewhat of a crutch, as much as he hated to admit it. He gave a wry smile, âItâs way harder without it.â He adds with a shrug, running a hand through his hair. He rolled his eyes, âOf course I want it to succeed Ken. I also donât want my brothers to have to worry about any of this.â He scoffs, âAnd my father doesnât exactly care how I go about it as long as I get it done.â
âThatâs not a good thing. We should discuss that when you donât have a place to be later on.â He sounded like he was dependant on the alcohol and that could lead down a horrible route. So she did what she always did, she started to compile a mental plan on how she would try to fix the situation he was in. âThen donât do it for your father, do it for your brothers and your friends. None of us want to see you like that. Stop before itâs too late and you canât do it on your own anymore.â
richkidzsquad:
âOh right, itâs part of your charm,â he said fondly but with a roll of his eyes. Worrying was almost like Kennedyâs job, it was second nature to her but someone had to be there to make her snap out of it and it was obvious both her and Harrison needed an outlet. He raised an eyebrow, shrugging, âExplain to me how itâs not that simple. Both of you had fun it seems like and if your families are a problem, just donât let them find out. Easy.â
âUm..thanks?â She wasnât entirely sure how Leon meant for her to take it. So her confusion was evident on her face for a brief moment. âBecause there are countless of outside factors. If something were to happen again it would not stay just between us. Weâd have to lie to our families and it could be come extremely complicated. And what if it came out? My reputation and shot at running the family business would be ruined.âÂ
richkidzsquad:
âDonât I feel special,â she said dryly as she raised an eyebrow, taking a few minutes to pretend to consider it. âSince you sound so sure of yourself,â she finally said as she clicked a few times on the screen, logging off and finally stood up. Anaya reached for her jacket, her lips rising in a smile, âI have to be back soon, so this best lunch of my life cant take too long.â
He had never had a reason to doubt himself, everyone usually fell at his feet. It was only a matter of time with most girls, trying to play hard to get in the beginning. âIâm always sure of myself.â Derek said, winking at her. Heâd have to make a quick call to his favorite lunch spot, they always held a table free for him.âMy dad wonât be back for at least an hour. Donât worry, Iâll cover for you.âÂ
richkidzsquad:
âWell, you just might succeed,â she said teasingly, a genuine smile on her lips. âMaybe impressing me isnât as hopeless for you as I thought it was.â It filled her with this weird warmth when he had said it but as far as Bianca was concerned that was just another indication that she needed a drink. She ordered one of those fancy cocktails with a lot of alcohol before turning to him.Â
Brooks grinned, happy when he noticed that her smile was genuine. âThatâs the best news Iâve heard all night.â He was being over the top again, hoping that sheâd find it funny.Â
richkidzsquad:
âAnd I will make sure to like it as soon as you unblock me,â he said with a grin. He looked down for a moment before meeting her eyes again, âAnd if you wanna talk afterwards - or you know - just get drunk or anything. You know Iâm always here for that.â
âWho said that Iâm going to unblock you?â Ashley teased raising an eyebrow. Whenever she got fed up with him she blocked him on instagram. It was petty and she was aware of that, but she didnât really care. âI know. Thanks. Iâll text you later and let you know.â
richkidzsquad:
âYou would give up within the first fifteen minutes,â she replied with an easy grin, shaking her head. This evening was shaping up to more enjoyable than she had ever thought. âArenât you being a gentleman today,â she said rhetorically, sounding almost amused. It was just so different from the Brooks she usually knew but she hooked her arm with his as they walked.
âProbably.â That was a fair assumption. Brooks got distracted easily, but he wouldâve tried for Bianca. âWell, Iâm trying to impress you.â His tone was joking despite the fact that he meant it. Although he knew that tonight wouldnât change anything between them. Bianca would never take him seriously. When they reached the bar he turned to face her. âSo what do you want to drink?â
richkidzsquad:
âHe makes it so easy,â he agreed, nodding though Leon wasnât all that better. Most of the time he didnât put any thought in anything, it was part of why him and Brooks got along so well. âOh my god, stop worrying about everything!â he exclaimed, rolling his eyes, âItâs not heâs asked you to marry him.â He scoffed, âSo yeah, see him in secret or whatever. Both of you need to get laid on the regular.âÂ
âI canât stop worrying! Have you met me?â It truly was one of the things she was best at, she couldnât help herself but overthink and worry nearly all of the time. She hadnât been overthinking when she spent the night with Harrison however.. âItâs really not that simple...â Kennedy blushed uncomfortable by how easy this seemed to him.
richkidzsquad:
He suddenly didnât want to think about this or talk about it. She had made her point clear and he wasnât going to argue about any of it. And he knew his coping methods werenât the best but he couldnât bring himself to care. âYeah, okay,â he nodded in reply as he leaned against the counter. He managed a small laugh, âBelieve me, alcohol helps in those meetings.â Harrison had been developing a sort of tendency to lean on drugs or alcohol but he wasnât going to discuss that with her.Â
âHow are you supposed to pay attention if you miss important details due to being inebriated? Itâs going to be your company. Donât you want it to succeed?â She couldnât allow herself to make foolish decisions like that, always giving 120% just so her father would consider her an equal and worthy of overtaking the company. So far it hadnât worked, so maybe Harrisonâs method was better. It was common knowledge that his father was training him to take over.Â
richkidzsquad:
Harrison could feel his jaw clenching at her words. He knew she was right, he was being unreasonable. He had always known he had to be the one responsible for the future of his family; he was the eldest son, it was him that his father laid most of his expectations on. If it meant his brothers could live a more carefree life he was even willing but it was times like these that he realized just what he was missing out on. He moved away from her, leaning against the counter, âYeah, okay youâre right,â he conceded shaking his head. He shrugged, âI donât know what came over me. This isnât like me.â It really wasnât, it just spoke to how much he wanted her. He let out a low laugh, âI need a drink.âÂ
Ninety-nine percent of the time, Kennedy loved being right. It was one of her favorite things, but now? It felt empty. Hollow. She didnât want to be right, she realised. Not about this. âWe drank a lot last night, you must have some alcohol left in your system. Donât worry about it.â Kennedy conceded, wanting to put her hand on his arm to comfort him put stopping herself. What was going on with her? She must not be fully sober yet as well. That was the only explanation she allowed in her mind. âYou have your meeting soon. You shouldnât drink before that.â
richkidzsquad:
âI knew I could have faith in you,â he said with a small nod. He had felt like he had taken a bit of a risk when he had bet on her but i had definitely paid off, Kennedy had come through and he had won yet another bet against Brooks. It was still surprising to hear about Harri but once he had gotten over the initial shock, he realized they made sense together. âThat is literally the only point that matters,â he countered with a roll of his eyes, âJust donât let him find out then.â
âYou canât put faith in Brooks.â It was usually a good idea to bet against Brooks, seeing as he rarely ever thought of the odds of him winning and just went with whatever he felt like when he bet on something. Kennedy took everything infinitely more serious. âItâs not. There are so many reasons why this couldnât work.â Kennedy sighed, putting her head in her hands. âSo what do you suggest? Me being with him in secret?â
richkidzsquad:
He nodded, not knowing what else to say in reply or how they could go about fixing this. They still had so many things they had never talked about. His lips curved in a grin as he shook his head, everyone was well aware of Ashâs dislike for her dadâs girlfriends and for good reason to. âWell good luck on surviving the night,â he laughed, âYou still do look amazing though.â
âIâll definitely need it.â Ashley rolled her eyes, already dreading the night. How old was the woman this time? 30? 25? All of them had been too young for her dad so this one wouldnât be any different. âThanks. Might as well get a good insta pic out of this nightmare.â
richkidzsquad:
âOkay,â he finally nodded. It still seemed a little wrong, like he shouldnât leave things like that but he didn't know what else to say and maybe she really did need some time. He still didnât want to leave though and his lips curved in a sad smile at her words. âYeah, I never wanted it- to be like this,â he continued, his words tinged with sadness. He shook his head looking at her again, âso where are you going?â
Ashley was glad Leon wasnât fighting her on this, not having the energy to deal with him on top of surviving the night with her dad and his dumb girlfriend. She hadnât actually met the woman yet, but from past experiences she felt the assumption was fair. âYeah well..it is how it is.â No one could change the past, they would just have to look forward and keep going. âMy dad wanted me to meet his new girlfriend. Iâve cancelled three times already, he didnât let me cancel again.â

It wasnât that Anaya didnât know how wrong her entire plan was, only that right and wrong didnât matter anymore. There were people in danger that she held far more close to her heart than Derek could ever be. He had money, she was sure he would recover from the blow. That was the sort of things she reasoned herself with whenever she found her resolve wavering. She knew her looks and Derekâs reputation would work in her favor and predictably, all it had taken was a few short skirts to garner his attention. She was interested, of course but she couldnât appear  to give in that easily. âYou donât need it. You want  it,â she said with a small smirk, turning to face him, âAnd why should I?âÂ
âI wonât deny that i want to take you out..Very badly..â Derek smirking pausing for a moment before fully entering the office. âBut I also need to. Iâll make it worth your while. Trust me, Iâm great company.â She was gorgeous and he wanted to get to know her better, there was no harm in that. At least when one asked him. Besides, his father was gone for the day, he wouldnât even get mad at Derek for something he didnât know. It was a win win. âI can guarantee you the best lunch of your life. Just say yes.â
richkidzsquad:
âYou donât have to,â she rolled her eyes but her lips were curved in a smile, clearly she didnât mind. His words gave her a small pause, not really expecting them especially in such a honest tone. She attempted to wave it away, âNo one ever said my mom was reasonable.â She shrugged lightly, Bianca laughed at the act before giving her his hand, âLead the way, then.âÂ
âDo you want me to talk to her? Iâll charm her.â Brooks joked, doubting it would help but thinking it was nice to offer anyways. If one asked him, Bianca was one of the greatest girls in the world. She was gorgeous, smart and funny too. A little mean, but that only made her hotter to him.âIâd be honored.â There was the overly gentlemanly act again, wanting to prove her he was a good date.
The proposal

Every time Gemma saw Blake it was like the first time. Her heart skipped a beat and she truly didnât know how she had gotten so lucky. She was convinced she had fell in love with him the moment she had met him and a string of failed relationships before him had only made her love him more. It had never felt this right, she had never clicked with anyone else. He was her best friend, the person she put before everyone else and she knew they would love each other forever. As long as Blake was by her side she was sure she could do anything.Â
She knew there was something special about this date but then Blake never stopped surprising her. He made everything special and as much as she loved attention, she was just as happy doing the most mundane things with him. She was putting on the final touches on her makeup when the car arrived and Gemma simply got more excited with every moment.Â
A bright smile lit up her face when she saw him waiting for her outside the restaurant. She couldnât hold back the small, happy laugh when he helped her out of the car, wrapping her hands around his neck as she kissed him back. âThank you, love,â she grinned as she slid her arm in his and they walked in the place. She turned her head, brushing her lips against his cheek, âI missed you.âÂ
His eyes widened when she stepped out of the car as always taken aback by how beautiful she looked. For Blake it didnât make a difference if he saw her at seven am bare faced and still half asleep or fully put together like now. He always thought she was the most beautiful person in any room. He always looked for her in his past relationships, pushing his feeling for Gemma off because of their age difference. Blake wasnât sure when he fell for her exactly, but it had been a while before they started dating. âI missed you too.â He placed a soft kiss on her lips. Whenever they were apart he felt incomplete. Hopefully they would not have to be apart for long - he was betting on her saying yes. Thatâs why he put so much effort and time into planning this. So everything would be perfect.Â
âI booked us a great table. I went ahead and ordered your favorite food.â He placed his hand on her lower back as he guided her inside, his heart starting to beat faster due to nerves and excitement.
