“I can’t stop worrying! Have you met me?” It truly was one of the things she was best at, she couldn’t help herself but overthink and worry nearly all of the time. She hadn’t been overthinking when she spent the night with Harrison however.. “It’s really not that simple…” Kennedy blushed uncomfortable by how easy this seemed to him.

“Oh right, it’s part of your charm,” he said fondly but with a roll of his eyes. Worrying was almost like Kennedy’s job, it was second nature to her but someone had to be there to make her snap out of it and it was obvious both her and Harrison needed an outlet. He raised an eyebrow, shrugging, “Explain to me how it’s not that simple. Both of you had fun it seems like and if your families are a problem, just don’t let them find out. Easy.”

“How are you supposed to pay attention if you miss important details due to being inebriated? It’s going to be your company. Don’t you want it to succeed?” She couldn’t allow herself to make foolish decisions like that, always giving 120% just so her father would consider her an equal and worthy of overtaking the company. So far it hadn’t worked, so maybe Harrison’s method was better. It was common knowledge that his father was training him to take over. 

“I don’t miss out any important details, it helps me - stay focused.” It had turned into somewhat of a crutch, as much as he hated to admit it. He gave a wry smile, “It’s way harder without it.” He adds with a shrug, running a hand through his hair. He rolled his eyes, “Of course I want it to succeed Ken. I also don’t want my brothers to have to worry about any of this.” He scoffs, “And my father doesn’t exactly care how I go about it as long as I get it done.”

“Probably.” That was a fair assumption. Brooks got distracted easily, but he would’ve tried for Bianca. “Well, I’m trying to impress you.” His tone was joking despite the fact that he meant it. Although he knew that tonight wouldn’t change anything between them. Bianca would never take him seriously. When they reached the bar he turned to face her. “So what do you want to drink?”

“Well, you just might succeed,” she said teasingly, a genuine smile on her lips. “Maybe impressing me isn’t as hopeless for you as I thought it was.” It filled her with this weird warmth when he had said it but as far as Bianca was concerned that was just another indication that she needed a drink. She ordered one of those fancy cocktails with a lot of alcohol before turning to him.

“I’ll definitely need it.” Ashley rolled her eyes, already dreading the night. How old was the woman this time? 30? 25? All of them had been too young for her dad so this one wouldn’t be any different. “Thanks. Might as well get a good insta pic out of this nightmare.”

“And I will make sure to like it as soon as you unblock me,” he said with a grin. He looked down for a moment before meeting her eyes again, “And if you wanna talk afterwards - or you know - just get drunk or anything. You know I’m always here for that.”

“You can’t put faith in Brooks.” It was usually a good idea to bet against Brooks, seeing as he rarely ever thought of the odds of him winning and just went with whatever he felt like when he bet on something. Kennedy took everything infinitely more serious. “It’s not. There are so many reasons why this couldn’t work.” Kennedy sighed, putting her head in her hands. “So what do you suggest? Me being with him in secret?”

“He makes it so easy,” he agreed, nodding though Leon wasn’t all that better. Most of the time he didn’t put any thought in anything, it was part of why him and Brooks got along so well. “Oh my god, stop worrying about everything!” he exclaimed, rolling his eyes, “It’s not he’s asked you to marry him.” He scoffed, “So yeah, see him in secret or whatever. Both of you need to get laid on the regular.”

Ninety-nine percent of the time, Kennedy loved being right. It was one of her favorite things, but now? It felt empty. Hollow. She didn’t want to be right, she realised. Not about this. “We drank a lot last night, you must have some alcohol left in your system. Don’t worry about it.” Kennedy conceded, wanting to put her hand on his arm to comfort him put stopping herself. What was going on with her? She must not be fully sober yet as well. That was the only explanation she allowed in her mind.  “You have your meeting soon. You shouldn’t drink before that.”

He suddenly didn’t want to think about this or talk about it. She had made her point clear and he wasn’t going to argue about any of it. And he knew his coping methods weren’t the best but he couldn’t bring himself to care. “Yeah, okay,” he nodded in reply as he leaned against the counter. He managed a small laugh, “Believe me, alcohol helps in those meetings.” Harrison had been developing a sort of tendency to lean on drugs or alcohol but he wasn’t going to discuss that with her.

Ashley was glad Leon wasn’t fighting her on this, not having the energy to deal with him on top of surviving the night with her dad and his dumb girlfriend. She hadn’t actually met the woman yet, but from past experiences she felt the assumption was fair. “Yeah well..it is how it is.” No one could change the past, they would just have to look forward and keep going. “My dad wanted me to meet his new girlfriend. I’ve cancelled three times already, he didn’t let me cancel again.”

He nodded, not knowing what else to say in reply or how they could go about fixing this. They still had so many things they had never talked about. His lips curved in a grin as he shook his head, everyone was well aware of Ash’s dislike for her dad’s girlfriends and for good reason to. “Well good luck on surviving the night,” he laughed, “You still do look amazing though.”

“I won’t deny that i want to take you out..Very badly..” Derek smirking pausing for a moment before fully entering the office. “But I also need to. I’ll make it worth your while. Trust me, I’m great company.” She was gorgeous and he wanted to get to know her better, there was no harm in that. At least when one asked him. Besides, his father was gone for the day, he wouldn’t even get mad at Derek for something he didn’t know. It was a win win. “I can guarantee you the best lunch of your life. Just say yes.”

“Don’t I feel special,” she said dryly as she raised an eyebrow, taking a few minutes to pretend to consider it. "Since you sound so sure of yourself," she finally said as she clicked a few times on the screen, logging off and finally stood up. Anaya reached for her jacket, her lips rising in a smile, "I have to be back soon, so this best lunch of my life cant take too long."

“Do you want me to talk to her? I’ll charm her.” Brooks joked, doubting it would help but thinking it was nice to offer anyways. If one asked him, Bianca was one of the greatest girls in the world. She was gorgeous, smart and funny too. A little mean, but that only made her hotter to him.”I’d be honored.” There was the overly gentlemanly act again, wanting to prove her he was a good date.

"You would give up within the first fifteen minutes," she replied with an easy grin, shaking her head. This evening was shaping up to more enjoyable than she had ever thought. "Aren’t you being a gentleman today," she said rhetorically, sounding almost amused. It was just so different from the Brooks she usually knew but she hooked her arm with his as they walked.

“There’s nothing you can say.” His words had stung. She needed a bit of time to process that and try to get over it. “Just give me some time.” Ashley enjoyed fighting with him normally, but not like this. When he ran a hand through his hair she remembered running her own hands through it and how soft it was. “I miss you too.” She confessed, sighing.

"Okay," he finally nodded. It still seemed a little wrong, like he shouldn’t leave things like that but he didn't know what else to say and maybe she really did need some time. He still didn’t want to leave though and his lips curved in a sad smile at her words. "Yeah, I never wanted it- to be like this," he continued, his words tinged with sadness. He shook his head looking at her again, "so where are you going?"

“I never lose. Of course I wasn’t going to let you down.” Kennedy remarked offhandedly, waving it off as if it was nothing.  If there was one thing she hated was being underestimated. She had drunken more than she probably should have only because she heard the doubt it Brooks’ voice and she wanted to spite him. Spite was a strong motivator for her. It surprised her how fast he came to terms with it, rolling her eyes at his question. “That’s not the point! It was a mistake. My father would disown me if he found out.”

"I knew I could have faith in you," he said with a small nod. He had felt like he had taken a bit of a risk when he had bet on her but i had definitely paid off, Kennedy had come through and he had won yet another bet against Brooks. It was still surprising to hear about Harri but once he had gotten over the initial shock, he realized they made sense together. "That is literally the only point that matters," he countered with a roll of his eyes, "Just don’t let him find out then.”

The proposal

His eyes widened when she stepped out of the car as always taken aback by how beautiful she looked. For Blake it didn’t make a difference if he saw her at seven am bare faced and still half asleep or fully put together like now. He always thought she was the most beautiful person in any room. He always looked for her in his past relationships, pushing his feeling for Gemma off because of their age difference. Blake wasn’t sure when he fell for her exactly, but it had been a while before they started dating. “I missed you too.” He placed a soft kiss on her lips. Whenever they were apart he felt incomplete. Hopefully they would not have to be apart for long - he was betting on her saying yes. That’s why he put so much effort and time into planning this. So everything would be perfect. 

“I booked us a great table. I went ahead and ordered your favorite food.” He placed his hand on her lower back as he guided her inside, his heart starting to beat faster due to nerves and excitement.

Gemma would never get tired of the way Blake looked at her, she never had to doubt what he felt for her. It was written plain as day on his face and as much as she enjoyed attention or being center stage there was nothing she enjoyed more than having Blake all to herself. She considered herself so lucky to have fallen in love with her best friend but then in a way no one else could have ever lived up to Blake. She found herself smiling against his lips, feeling giddy all over.

“You always think of everything,” she said as they walked inside, her heels clicking on the floor and she turned to press a small kiss on his cheek, “Thank you.”

Oh, how she wished for things to be different. If their fathers hadn’t known each other, or were simply in the same fields instead of bitter rivals, they wouldn’t be in this predicament. Kennedy wanted to explore whatever there was going on between them, but she was holding herself back due to her fear of disappointing her parents. Kennedy sighed, looking at him instead of avoiding his eyes again. She needed to be strong right now. “You want the truth? I had fun last night and I’m guessing you did too, otherwise we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now. And if things were different I’d definitely be open to see where this could go. But we can’t ignore all the outside factors of why this can’t and couldn’t work. This isn’t just between you and me, you know that.  If we’d lie to our parents and they’d find out, it would be over. This can only end one way and you know that as well as I do.”

 Harrison could feel his jaw clenching at her words. He knew she was right, he was being unreasonable. He had always known he had to be the one responsible for the future of his family; he was the eldest son, it was him that his father laid most of his expectations on. If it meant his brothers could live a more carefree life he was even willing but it was times like these that he realized just what he was missing out on. He moved away from her, leaning against the counter, “Yeah, okay you’re right,” he conceded shaking his head. He shrugged, “I don’t know what came over me. This isn’t like me.” It really wasn’t, it just spoke to how much he wanted her. He let out a low laugh, “I need a drink.”

Derek was the type of person whose attention was hard to keep as he always went after the next shiny thing. Needless to say his parents weren’t happy with how he chose to live his life. But that would change soon. The prototype he was building with Jake, an engineer in the company, was going to change the way they’d been working. It would revolutionise things. There were just some kinks that needed to be worked out before they could start building. His father hired a new assistant recently and Derek thought she was gorgeous. Due to his many escapades with his former assistants there was a ban on Derek having pretty assistants his age. His current assistant was a woman who could be his grandmother. He thought it was really unfair - it wasn’t his fault that these girls got their heart broken. He just wasn’t a relationship type of person. But he did enjoy the chase. Unbothered by the look on her face he smirked at her. “I do need something. I need you to go to lunch with me. I have reservations at the Hill in an hour.”

It wasn’t that Anaya didn’t know how wrong her entire plan was, only that right and wrong didn’t matter anymore. There were people in danger that she held far more close to her heart than Derek could ever be. He had money, she was sure he would recover from the blow. That was the sort of things she reasoned herself with whenever she found her resolve wavering. She knew her looks and Derek’s reputation would work in her favor and predictably, all it had taken was a few short skirts to garner his attention. She was interested, of course but she couldn’t appear  to give in that easily. “You don’t need it. You want  it,” she said with a small smirk, turning to face him, “And why should I?”

“Thank you.” Kennedy let out a relieved sigh, hoping that the situation between him and Ashley would be fixed soon. “Me? Nothing special. The usual.” She had to talk to someone about the whole Harrison situation. She knew what the girls would say about this, but she needed another opinion and Leon had been a good friend to her. “Can I count on you to keep this between us?” She paused for a second waiting for him to agree before she continued. “You know last week when all of us got really drunk? I kind of may have sort of slept with Harrison…” 

He raised an eyebrow at her answer, knowing her well enough to know she was deflecting. His curiosity was piqued when she asked to keep it between themselves and he readily agreed, talking above her when she mentioned drinking. “Yeah sure, when me and Brooks made that bet about if you could hold your own drinking and you did and I knew you would cause you’ve never let me down-” His eyes widened as her words registered and he cut himself off, “You and Harrison-” it was just kind of hard to understand at first since they were the two most straight laced among the group but Leon nodded, “Okay,” he paused, “Was it good?”

“Did I say you were?” Ashley scoffed, rolling her eyes. He didn’t really think he was going to get out of the dog house that easy, did he? A simple apology didn’t cut it for her. Not in a matter like this one. She wanted to forgive him and his words were almost winning her over, but she was standing her ground this time. She couldn’t let his smile charm her again. That never ended well. “It’s no excuse. Glad to see we in agreement about something.”

He was at a loss for what else to say to her. He just looked at her for a long moment, not knowing what he could do to make it better. “I don’t know what to say to make it any better,” he finally confessed sounding kind of defeated. He ran a hand through his hair, his lips curving in a slight, wry smile, “Yeah, we are.” He bit his lip before adding, “I miss you, you know.”

“Okay then.” Ashley nodded, moving on to their next topic of conversation. If something about this changed she knew Bianca would tell her, so she wasn’t worried about Bianca keeping secrets from her. “I can be fake nice for the greater good. And my grandmother says I don’t involve myself in charities enough.” 

Bianca was glad for the topic change since it was still something she found herself conflicted about. She laughed, “You’re doing a great thing by going out with this guy,” she said seriously, nodding.
