Ok but with Rick and Diane- can you try to picture what that relationship was like, beyond her like 10 seconds of screentime? Rick was 36 when Beth was born. How long were they married? Was Diane the one who could reel Rick back when he got to obsessed, did she enjoy hearing him ramble on about science? What did she do with her own hobbies and career and interests. They knew Mr. Nimbus. Did they go on married adventures together as a couple? Did they travel the earth and into the stars? Was the portal gun in itself supposed to be an invention not only for Rick’s satisfaction but also a family event?

I saw someone say that the reason someone like Rick loves someone like Birdperson is precisely BECAUSE birdperson is so stoic and boring, and that’s hilarious and I’m totally here for it. But also:

I can totally see it being true? Consider the fact that Rick Sanchez is a hot mess at the point in his life when he meets Birdperson. He’s recently lost his wife and child and he’s travelling the multiverse looking for their killer. He meets Birdperson when he’s high and cracks a joke about how his culture fucked him over on his name, and rather than getting offended Birdperson joins him in getting high while saying “affirmative.”

Birdperson is a chill guy, even around Rick. He doesn’t get flustered, and that probably makes Rick feel chill too. And then Rick learns that Birdperson has suffered under the Galactic Federation, and has probably lost loved ones as a result as well. He can relate to the feeling of someone more powerful than you taking your loved ones away from you, so he’s totally down to kick some Gromflomite ass and help Birdperson. And he feels like BP gets him, and understands him, and he thinks “maybe I can find a safe harbour here” and shoots his shot, but BP recognizes that Rick is too messed up and has different levels of integrity and so Rick goes through the portal in a strop to another universe and probably ugly cries.

i’m ray and i’m 24. first came to tumblr around age 14, was super involved with narutumblr and homestuck fandoms. i’m a white nonbinary trans guy (they/them).

let’s do a fun fact. i fucking love drugs and am a huge advocate for their (informed, contextually appropriate) use and legalization.

i started this account when i was 19 and rick and morty was my main coping outlet for the horrible shit that was happening in my life. going forward however, this account will be primarily rick and morty, solar opposites, and justice-centered content. was kicked out for being trans when i was 19 by my level 10 abuser father, i have a ton of disorganized attachment issues and chronic PTSD which i am always open to discuss,  and if it wasn’t for my friends, partner of 7 years, and my privileged access to resources i’d be fucking dead. i have a couple of thousand followers and it feels like it’d be a waste NOT to signal boost shit like daily actions, petitions, gofundmes, venmos, etc.
