The Rickyl Writers Group is still officially on hiatus as far as challenges and this Tumblr site go... but we’re still chatting in our Rickyl Slack! You should get in on this!

For real, we’re a fun bunch, and there’s a lot to do! We do writing sprints sometimes, throw ideas around, post pictures of Norman and Andy and generally flail about them, etc. And perhaps most excitingly... we live-watch the episodes together in a side channel! No one should have to watch the season premiere alone!

Also though, the main channel in the chat room is SPOILER-FREE, so you don’t have to worry about getting spoilers if you join. There’s a specific side-channel for crying talking about possible spoilers if you’re into that, but it’s a channel you have to opt-in to so you don’t have to worry if you don’t want to see it.

Awesome fannish Rickyl shirts!

Hi everybody, we’ve got an artist ( @foxestacado ) who’s designing Rickyl shirts for us! The design isn’t finalized yet, but if you check out Fox’s store in the link above, you can see examples of similar shirts that they’ve done for other ships in other fandoms. They’re pretty amazing.

In order to have these printed, we have to have a minimum order of 25 shirts, so buy yours today! We have to reach the minimum order number by October 25 in order to have these made, so help us out!

What if I order the shirt and we don’t reach the minimum number of orders?

No worries. If we don’t reach the minimum order, all orders will be refunded.

What if I order the shirt but change my mind?

You will have the opportunity to back out of the purchase if you don’t like the design or no longer want to order one. Once we reach the minimum order and the artist finishes the design, you’ll get an email letting you know the deadline for cancelling your order.

Is this an official Rickyl Writers Group shirt?

Nope, just Rickyl. Members of the RWG (hi @friend-lover-janitor!) got the idea to approach Fox to create the shirt, but the design won’t specifically mention this group, so even if you’re not a member of the RWG then you can order one without worrying about advertising.

What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

That depends on whether you’re talking about a European swallow or an African one, and also on whether or not Daryl Dixon is shooting arrows at it. We’ll let you figure that one out for yourself.

Important RWG Announcement

Dear RWG Members,

Thank you all so much for your support and enthusiasm for Rickyl since this group was founded. From the beginning, we wanted to make this a group where Rickyl enthusiasts could meet like-minded people and make friends... in short, to form a community. For the most part, we've done that, and although there have been bumps in the road along the way, I'm proud of what we have done together. We were a part of taking this ship from a small background pairing to one of the major ships in the TWD fandom, and we couldn't have done it without all of you! Take a look back at all the fics we've produced in a short time, and give yourselves a round of applause.

However, all good things must come to an end. After a great deal of thought and soul-searching, I have decided to put the Rickyl Writers' Group on indefinite hiatus. We will no longer be updating the Tumblr site or putting out new challenges (although we still encourage you to work on your bingo cards!), and membership applications and the recommendation system are on hold until further notice. We will still keep this Slack forum running and will be happy to invite new members to chat here, but from now on this will just be a Rickyl chat room and will not be an "official" RWG space. This means that other than the very basic monitoring for spoilers in the general chat, we will not be policing other content or mediating in debates between members. Chat at your own risk, and keep in mind that you are still welcome to create side channels and private DMs if you want to create a safer space for yourself.

This may seem sudden and out of the blue, but please know that this decision is one I've been thinking about for several months. There are many reasons for the decision, but it all boils down to a realization that I don't have time to continue running this group the way it deserves to be run. It's been a labor of love, and I am proud of all that we have accomplished together.

I am still around to chat, and I still love you guys. Maybe when the show comes back from break, things will have quieted down and I can start things back up again. But for now... keep writing Rickyl and keep making friends.

Daryl was abused by Will Dixon and as much as Merle tried to be good and help he was too caught up in hiding his own pain in a sea of drugs and alcohol. When things finally got to be too much for Daryl, the abuse more then he could recover from he ran away. He knew how to fend for himself in the woods, hell it’s the only way he could eat but he hadn’t counted on what happened when the moon was full in the summer sky

When Rick is 8, he visits his family out in the middle of nowhere Georgia and gets lost in the woods. He stumbles upon something he isn’t supposed to see, and is saved by another little boy that gets him home safely.

AKA: the story where Daryl continuously keeps Rick from getting killed as they grow up, Rick is a nosy little shit who doesn't know boundaries, and Daryl's family practices a bastardized version of Folklore Hoodoo and New Orleans Haitian Vodou.

The Dixon Family and their associates use this practice to prosper their bootlegging business, but their rituals are corrupt and their actions anger the spirits they communicate with. The forest and town become cursed, and the horrible things the townspeople do in their every day lives makes everything worse. No one discovers the damning combination until it's too late.
