“Then we venture out and make camp.” It wouldn’t be even close to the first time she’d slept out in the woods for him. Honestly, there were times she preferred it to sleeping indoors. “It’s not like I won’t be going without protection. I’m trained to fight, and I can surely defend myself against him.” Not that she believed Liam would physically harm her. “It’ll be okay, Ulric. We’ve survived worse.”
“We could go tonight,” he suggested. “Turn it into something nice before the big night.” He’d missed the earth below him, the sounds of the forest. And he missed sharing that with his wife. As she spoke, his expression remained hard. He didn’t like imagining the particular outcome, nor was he fond of admitting to the real threat on the horizon. “It’s not you I’m worried about.” For her sake, or for his humanity’s, it was against his wishes to put an end to the huntsman. Especially to be proved guilty on his most vulnerable night.
