ive been meaning to ask this but what are our hcs for the grojgang's respective parents/relatives??? ive been cooking up stuff for corey and trinas bio parents in my au and that made me curious tbh ....

Hohoho 😈 buckle up cause I got some grojparents headcannons 💪

- According to the Neptoons studio blog, Corey and Trina are indeed rock gods (or rock demigods?). Personally believe that Lyricles is their bio dad, especially because of his design in Kon-Fusion:

Particularly the blue hair and the purple headband.

As for actual Grojband’s parents…

Corey and Trina are raised by a single dad (only ever had the dad mentioned in the OG pilot). Personally headcannon him as a washed up musician, which is why Corey and Trina’s bio parents entrusted their kids to him (cause music). Like to headcannon his name as Tre as reference to Corey’s Beta name.

Laney’s parents, I headcannon her dad as a music teacher and her mom as a lawyer. Laney seems to have the most range with instruments throughout the show, so having one of her parents be involved in teaching music makes sense since that could give her access to different instruments… meanwhile her mom being a lawyer is simply because you know the band is going to get into trouble so they need someone to help bail them out 😂

As for Kin and Kon, their parents are references to them being named after Godzilla and King Kong. Mama Kujira is named Andi (reference to Andy Serkis, who wore the mo-cap suit for the 2005 King Kong movie). Headcannon that she’s an aerospace engineer who specializes in planes. As for their dad, like the name Haruo (reference to Haruo Nakajima, who played Godzilla in 12 consecutive films). Insurance agent who is clumsy as heck (Kon gets his clumsiness from him 🥹)

I have more specifics and can go into more details (including Newman parent headcannons) but this feels like it’s getting long as is 🫣

Headcannons on the Pokémon teams for Grojband characters and explanation for choices under cut (warning: long post)

Corey

Galar Zigzagoon (wanted an Obstagoon added to his team)

Fuecoco (Skeledirge - singing starter - fits Corey well)

Toxel - Hasty Nature - later Toxtricity Amped form (amped form Toxtricity has 6 electric organs on its chest that it strums - similar to Corey’s 6-stringed guitar)

Pikachu (reference to when he dressed as a knock-off Pikachu)

Cubone (Skull head = Skull beanie? Yes.)

Cosmog (Wanted him to have a legendary on his team, but for him and all his friends to be completely unaware it's a legendary - reference to his own unawareness of his rock-godhood. Either Cosmog or Kubfu)

Laney

Litten (striped starter? Fits Laney well imo) 

Kricketot (violin reference from Queen Bee)

Toxel (shiny) - Careful Nature - later Toxtricity Low Key form (Pokémon shield’s dex entry compares the low key form’s strumming to a bass guitar)

Kirlia (Reference to her hair… Later it evolves into Gardevior to fight off Trina’s Bewear)

Mimikyu (creepy cute aesthetic fits Laney well)

Alola Rattata (reference to biteface)

Kin

Blipbug (I mean… it just looks like him)

Varoom (reference to the groj-car)

Ducklett (reference to Stunt Duck - could be switched out for Quaxly for a starter)

Rotom (Wanted to add a ghost type to match the soul-camera that Kin made in Soulin' Down the Road)

Applin (Appletum seems like it would go well with Kon, plus the whole ‘Give an Applin to your sweetheart’ fits well with Kon’s hopeless romantic nature)

Mabosstiff (reference to Kon-dog. Also, Mabosstiff’s coat seems like something Kon would love to style/take care of - throughout the show, Kon has shown caring about his own hair)

Sylveon (pink + ribbons… need I say more?)

Spritzee (reference to beep-bop-a-loofah and Trina’s obsession with smelling nice)

Luvdisc (reference to all the heart motifs associated with Trina)

Stufful (Cute but dangerous… fits Trina to a “T”. Plus, can see her sending it after the band to torment them)

Skitty/Glameow (Cat Pokémon to reference wheelie… Skitty matches the pink theme better, but Glameow looks more like Wheelie…)

Tinkatuff (Pokedex description “fiesty and cute”... fits Trina pretty well)

Mina

Meowth (reference to Dr. Purrs)

Phanpy (colors seem like they’d match well with Mina)

Shieldon (reference to love of history - wanted her to have a fossil pokemon)

Spewpa (evolves into Vivillon - A caterpillar waiting to evolve into a butterfly seemed like it would be a good theme for Mina)

Ditto (reference to her conforming to whatever Trina wants)

Lampent (Seems like a useful pokemon to have when reading late at night)

Nick

Eevee (Just matches his aesthetic)

Smeargle (reference to his painting ability)

Herdier (reference to Dog-Nick from Dance of the Dead)

Raboot (similar red jacket looks)

Vanillish (Needed an ice type, and serves as a reference to him eating ice cream in Hear Us Rock)

Tyrunt (Wanted a fossil type to reference Nick’s respect for history as shown in War and Peaceville)

Misdreavus (both have hats)

Morpeko (meant to contrast Corey's Pikachu)

Alolan Meowth (reference to Dr. Purrs and contrast to her sister’s Meowth)

Noibat (Had to have a dragon type on Carrie's team, and Noivern fits her aesthetic)

Tododile (Starter - mainly just cause it's blue and spikey)

Scraggy (I think older Carrie enjoys wearing baggy pants, okay?)

Hisui Zorua (sad eye boys)

Chatot (music pokemon)

Budew (color matches with the red and greens)

Ralts (Look similar hair-wise. Meant to contrast Laney's Kirlia)

Chikorita (Thought the more "feminine" looking starter paired with the boy who gets mistaken for a girl would be fun)

Joltik (electric type - plus the spikey yellow reminds her of Konnie)

Castform (science pokemon for the mad scientist)

Oricorio (purple) (matches with Konnie)

Charjabug (aesthetic contrast to Kin's blipbug)

Chingling (obligatory music-themed Pokémon)

Tadbulb (...I think Bellibolt is adorable, okay?)

Konnie

Tepig (starter - originally debated giving to Kon but grookey felt like a better fit, so Konnie gets tepig)

Spinda (meant to contrast Kon's Whismur. Headcannon Konnie as ditzy, so the perpetually confused Spinda felt like a good match)

Oricorio (Yellow) (matches with Kim)

Pawmi (Pawmot's fluffy hair reminded me of Konnie's)

Flaafy (Ampharos seemed like a good fit for Konnie)

Makuhita (The round fighting type pokemon seems a good fit for Konnie)
