things i'm thinking about as i try and write something for the bassist swap au. AKA a list of headcanons i have for this au. this is also a word salad, my apologies
-laney met the newmans after being sat next to carrie in kindergarten and carrie was like "you're part of my friend group now" after staring at laney for ten seconds. laney, being five years old, just shrugged and then next thing she knew, she was listening to konnie and carrie about their favorite show while Kim plucked strands of her hair for cloning. it was the best lunch time ever
-larry was a loner until corey saw him playing his bass in the music room during grade 3. corey then would not leave larry alone until larry agreed to be in his band with kin and kon chanting "join us" each time they saw him
-laney is not a mother hen with the newmans. in fact, she's the one getting them out of their comfort zone
-yeah i'm aware that's kind of out of character but think about i really like the idea of laney being a thrill seeker in safe circumstances for good reasons
-and the newmans are shown to be less chaotic than grojband so it would make sense for laney to be the slightly more chaotic one of the group(at least to me anyway, feel free to try and change my mind)
-larry on the other hand is the total opposite. more often than not he has to be physically dragged into one Corey's "crazy schemes that just might work"
-after every near death experience the group has after getting trina's diary, larry goes out and buys safety for the next time they find themselves in a similar situation
-he also refuses to go into pinktastic because trina drives like a maniac and he would like to keep living thank you very much
-laney and carrie write the newmans music together, it is very productive and you better not interrupt writing time unless you want a missing limb
-laney and kim have a little book club and take turns regularly hosting between each other
-konnie and laney are shopping buddies. more so on konnie's end rather than laney's but you bet your butt that when konnie asks to go to the mall with laney she will be there
-larry tries everything to help corey write actual good lyrics. from meditation to summoning muses, he's done it all. none of it has worked though and he is slowly going insane from it. corey appreciates the effort though
-larry and kin blab conspiracy theories at each other. it's terrifying to listen to because not only are they serious but when they talk about it it actually makes sense
-larry and kon are each other's polar opposite and yet, larry might be the closest to him. put the two of them next to each other and you'll hear them talking about everything and nothing
-the girls have friendship bracelets! they were konnie's idea during a sleepover and they're all really attached to them
-the boys have matching shoelaces with Grojband's logo on them. i just like this idea so i have no argument for it otherwise
CRUSH STUFF!!!!(what you all have been waiting for)
-laney thought corey was attractive in a objective kind of way but never thought more about him until she heard grojband preform live for the first time. she was in denial about it for a good year but the rest of the newmans knew
-carrie thinks laney has terrible taste in men while kim thinks it will end in disaster and konnie thinks its a Romeo and Juliet tale
-in contrast to larry who has had a crush on carrie since way before he joined grojband. he heard her sing in year 1 and thought she was pretty and then the next day, she let him borrow a pencil and he was done for. now all he can do is stare at her with hearts in his eyes
-corey knows and he is deeply disappointed in him, kin doesn't really care, and kon thinks the whole thing is like a soap opera and he's sat for the next eight seasons of it
-as for corey, I feel like he would be low-key obsessed with laney. not like crazy obsessed but out of all the newmans, she stays in his head more than the others, even more so than carrie. he also shows off more during band confrontations when laney is around
-he thinks it's because he wants to be her friend and that she's too talented for the newmans
-no corey, that is not why you think of her more. you just have a crush. a big one. one so big that even carrie knows about it after you threw your arm around laney and declared her "too good for these losers"
-laney just thinks he's overly friendly to her to get her to let her guard down, she's trying hard not to fall for it even though she thinks he cute
-but it's really hard when he's complimenting her each time he sees her(he thinks it'll make her want to be his friend)
-poor larry has the opposite probelm
-due to him being a grojband member, carrie refused to get to know him before he managed to string a coherent sentence around her
-that is larry's one regret about joining grojband but he loves his bros so it's not a huge one
-so he will yearn from afar and respect her boundaries
-the trouble is, carrie does sort of, maybe, possibly, in another lifetime, have a small small crush on larry
-but he's part of the enemy band, so she would be a hypocrite to laney if she did anything
-so she keeps him at arms length, even if he is cute
-kim, kon, kin, and konnie have a bet going on who will break first for each couple
-konnie is the one who most likely win the pot($27 and some odd cents)
-what's her bet? who knows, i have to write that part
