Purl Bee Bandana Cowl
As a proud owner of an illustrated 2012 wall calendar from PurlSoho, I have the pleasure of looking at lovely pictures of cute projects advertised for download from the Purl bee blog each time I go to check dates on the calendar. This month, I actually completed one of the suggested October projects…within this very month of October!
The Bandana Cowl was a great quick project, and I learned how to knit short rows, all through the descriptions provided in the pattern. The whole “wrap and turn” concept took some getting used to, but I love the triangle shape it so easily made and the tutorial linked into the pattern is very clear.
I knit this cowl in the round using US size 10.5 needles and a bulky yarn by Mirasol Peru called Sulka, which is a very soft wool, alpaca, and silk blend. It took nearly 3 skeins at 55 yards each to complete. I’ll consider blocking it…but that probably won’t happen. It’s very soft and cozy and drapes nicely as it is.
I’m very satisfied with the way it turned out, and in the midst of knitting copious quantities of Christmas gifts for others, it’s nice to have been able to squeeze in something that’s all mine!

No work today because of Hurricane Sandy, which means catching up on my knitting. It also means redefining “animal cruelty”. Poor Giddy.
