Xie Lian's bad luck strikes again — this time he's been snatched away to the realm beyond that of mortals by its handsome yet cunning king 👀

Yushi Huang - Tian Guan Ci Fu
"The Princess Who Slit Her Throat"
Chu Wanning and Mo Ran, The Husky and his White Cat Shizun.
Forever love does exist.
"After seeing the vast sea, no water can compare;
Scattered from the peak of Mount Wu, there are no other clouds;
Many times I’ve passed through the flowers, yet I spare them no glance;
For half my fate is in cultivation, and the other half, in you."
Ache of Separation is the poem Hua Cheng, or San Lang, cherishes most. It encapsulates the undying love he feels for Xie Lian.
After meeting His Highness, he could find none better.
After admiring the view from Mount Wu, no other landscape could compare.
He could be surrounded by countless beauties, yet none could entice him but his prince.
And at the end of the poem, the very last word that leaves his lips is “you.”
For 800 long years, Hua Cheng waited for Xie Lian. For 800 long years, he watched him suffer, powerless to intervene.
"Watching your beloved be trampled and ridiculed with your own eyes and being unable to do a thing about it. You understand that you are nothing, that you can do nothing. That’s the worst suffering in the world."
He saw him at his lowest: falling into the abyss, betrayed by his companions, crushed by the selfishness of humankind, and even driven to the brink of ending his own life. For 800 years, even in death, he sought to protect him. With this conviction, he tore out his own right eye, rejected the heavens, and “ascended as a Ghost King.”
But no matter what he witnessed, he never stopped cherishing him:
"The one basking in infinite glory is you; the one fallen from grace is also you. What matters is you, not the state of you. No matter what happened in the past, I will never leave you."
Xie Lian is the person who changed his fate, the one who saved Hua Cheng from that wall when everyone else blamed him. He is the one who defied the gods to save the life of a boy born under an ill-fated star.
So no matter how far he has fallen, Xie Lian is still Xie Lian. Hua Cheng loves him completely: his flaws, his glory. He loves the prince who gave him the chance to live, who gave him a reason to live, who fell from grace to save his people, who sank into misery, lower than the earth, who lost faith in humankind—and yet rose again. Finally, the man who held out his hand to him, dressed in his red wedding robes, beneath the Crimson Rain Sought Flower.
"Your Highness, I understand your everything. Your courage, your despair. Your kindness, your pain. Your resentment, your hate. Your wisdom, your foolishness. If I could, I would have you use me as your stepping stone, the bridge you take apart after crossing, the bones you need to trample on your climb, the sinner who endures the agony of a million knives. But I know you won’t allow it." Finally, what greater proof of love could there be than entrusting his own life to his beloved? Despite the risk of betrayal, Hua Cheng never once believed Xie Lian capable of such a thing. In Xie Lian's hands, it is "the safest place in the world."
Such is the true and eternal love presented in Tian Guan Ci Fu.
This is what love is.
No paths are bound.
The world is a matter of balance: you cannot gain something without sacrificing something else. This applies to luck, possessions, and even destiny. Trying to escape a tragedy only gives rise to another—such is the inevitability of fate.
To bow before destiny, that is the curse humanity must bear.
Xie Lian paid the price, just like the Crown Prince of Wuyong. Both were the darlings of the heavens, both faced tragic fates, both defied them, and both fell.
But there is one critical difference: “Body in the abyss, heart in paradise.” In adversity, despite enduring the worst tortures and torments, Xie Lian never lost himself. Even as his body suffered, his spirit remained pure, untouched by vengeance or despair.
A simple straw hat—that was all it took to open a third path. Jun Wu and Xie Lian were raised by the same teacher, faced the same choices, yet that one act was enough to forge a new destiny. Xie Lian was fated to eternal torment, but through his will, and with the help of the right people, he never gave in. He is the one basking in infinite glory, standing undefeated against destiny.
“By the Heaven Official’s blessing, no paths are bound!”
You can achieve anything you desire. Toss fate into the trash and forge your own with your own hands.
Truth is not gods, evil is not ghosts.
“When he was young, the Crown Prince focused solely on his cultivation, and there were two short tales widely spread about his path during that time.
The first tale took place when he was seventeen years old. That year, a grand Shangyuan Heavenly Ceremonial Procession was held in the Kingdom of Xianle.” However, an accident happened that day.
The Crown Prince Xie Lian, with majestic poise, saved a child, halting the grand procession. Yet this act of integrity was met with blame.
“This was ominous luck! The gravest of misfortunes!”
But the prince responded:
The Crown Prince smiled. “No.”
This was what he said: “There is nothing wrong with saving people. Why would the heavens condemn me for doing the right thing?”
-Uh… but what if the heavens do condemn you?
-Then it is the heavens who are wrong. Why would I apologize to those who are wrong?”
From the very beginning of the story, Xie Lian stands against the gods, placing his values above all else. How could saving a child ever be considered wrong? Why should he be blamed for doing what is just? Should a kingdom be punished for an act of bravery?
The gods do not represent ultimate truth. Ascension does not grant absolute knowledge. Furthermore, they are not infallible. Scandals abound in the Upper Court, often rooted in very human affairs: saving a loved one, pursuing vengeance, or basking in glory. The gods are profoundly human in their flaws and desires.
Is ascending truly the ultimate goal of all cultivators?
What is the point of becoming a god if one cannot protect what they hold dear? If one cannot safeguard their country? If that is the case, is becoming a ghost nothing more than a fall into disgrace?
Hua Cheng rejected the heavens. Upon his ascension, he descended just as swiftly to “ascend as a Ghost King.” A being with divine potential choosing to become a ghost—isn’t there a contradiction in that?
Because, ultimately, the truth is this:
“Your Highness Yin Yu… this world has no true gods.”
Mortals, gods, and ghosts—all are human at their core. Just as gods are not perfect, ghosts are not inherently evil.
What truly matters is the state of you, what makes you who you are. Following your heart and convictions, no matter what others might say. As long as you stay true to yourself, your heart will remain in paradise.
We are the gods of our own existence.
Body in abyss, heart in paradise.

Himmel : How to make a mark on history
Through the immortal eyes of the elf Frieren, we realize how fleeting human life is, which explains mankind's deep-seated desire to leave a mark on history.
"To live is to be known and remembered by others."
-Himmel
But what could make our name immortal ? Must we achieve heroic feats or become the greatest warrior ? What is the point, if only to end up as a legend distorted by the admiration of future generations ? Memory cannot subsist, and Himmel is proof of that. When Frieren is no longer there, no one will be able to testify to who this hero truly was.
However, have you noticed that Himmel garners most of the admiration from his peers ? Making a mark on history can mean becoming a source of inspiration for others, and Himmel is the perfect example of this. He was a good man, perhaps considered generous to a fault, always responding to the calls of those in distress. It is this almost naive kindness that earns him recognition, generation after generation. Those who benefit from his benevolence do not want to forget their benefactor, testifying to his generosity with a big smile or by erecting statues in his honor.
"The purpose of life is to be known and remembered. Only a little. You just need to change someone's life. That's all, I'm sure."
-Himmel
Performing good deeds, whether grand or humble, is what allows us to continue to exist through the influence we have on others.
To our true hero.
