Remember the first time you told me you loved me So many years ago?
It was typed out on a computer screen,
So simple and pure.
You, so young, so anxious for a response.
And I, not fully understanding what love really was,
Not thinking that this was it,
Responded that you didn’t.
You could not love me.
I told you that you didn’t know who I am.
You were only seeing the tip of the iceberg and you could not love what you did not understand.
So you,
You spent hours upon hours trying to discover what lay Under my surface.
Always there to talk, always learning more.
Always telling me when you learned something bad,
“It does not matter,
I love you.”
What a fool I was to turn true love away st such a young age.
To think of all the pain I could have saved us both.
