The Cat's Bell

"So um.... My brother made this blog thing for me. I'm Rin Natsume..." (Independent RP blog, but affiliated with Anime Manga RP for Rin Natsume from Little Busters! Rin nodded again, the bell on her head ringing as she did so. “Kyousuke named him, but I think it fits him well.” She had only a slight idea who Beethoven was, some music guy, but she just felt like it was the right name for the cat. That’s how it worked with pretty much all of the cats that her brother named.

“Where are they now?” Rin asked, in regards to Belka and Strelka. Meanwhile, the cat on her shoulder had made its way onto her head and was sort of just dangling there, but the girl was used to it and paid no mind.

“They should be patrolling the grounds right now.” Kud replied, curiously watching the cat cling to Rin. “I wish Strelka and Belka were still small enough to climb on me.” she sighed wistfully, “I guess Belka’s still pretty small though.”

"Hm..." Rin thought to herself. It's true that the dogs were probably too big to climb on Kud's head. But what if there was a way to make them smaller? Like a shrink ray or something that she saw in some anime. That would be great if something like that existed! But what if it fell into the wrong hands? Or worse, what if the dogs got a hold of it? They would run around, shrinking everything in sight. Buildings, clothes, food, people! And because they're so small, the dogs could fit into any crack or corridor, and shrink whatever they wanted. They could even shrink people so small, they were like dog food! And the dogs grew so hungry, they shrank and ate everyone!

"No! I don't want to live in a world like that!" Rin shouted suddenly. Her outburst was so surprising, the cat on her head fell behind her and tumbled to the ground.

“Of course I’ve been taking good care of them. I’ve fed them lots and lots of Mon Petit so they’ll grow up to be nice and healthy,” Rin said, feeling proud of herself. Mon Petit was her favorite cat food brand, which came in a wide variety of flavors. From what Rin saw, the cats each had their own likes and dislikes on the different kinds of Mon Petit. She was always looking out for the latest flavors that her cats might enjoy.

“Have you been eating lots of sweets again lately?”

“I see.” Rin was very fond of animals and Komari enjoyed watching her cats eating and playing around. It was a pretty fun view.

“I am sure they will end up being nice and healthy, too, since you’re doing a great job with them as usual.” 

She tilted her head at Rin’s question. “Sweets? H-huh, yeah, kind of… I’m such a gluttonous person!” She giggled as she rubbed the back of her head.

"Ah, no, I didn't mean it like that..." Rin floundered, feeling a bit guilty for what she said.

“Uwah! K-Komari-chan…” Rin flailed in her arms. She was always surprised by Komari’s hugs, but she wasn’t opposed to them.

Komari laughed as she loosened her grip. “Eheh, sorry if I scared you.” 

“I was just happy to see you.”

Rin was one of her best friends and Komari was always looking forward to spend some time with her.  

“So, have you been taking care of your cats? How are they?”

"Of course I've been taking good care of them. I've fed them lots and lots of Mon Petit so they'll grow up to be nice and healthy," Rin said, feeling proud of herself. “Mmmh,” Rin nodded. “This one right here. His name is Beethoven. He has really soft fur.” She stroked the white cat perched on her shoulder. 

“How are Belka and Strelka doing?” Even though she was a cat person, Rin loved all animals. And that included the two dogs that helped around the school, catching students that broke the rules, like that noisy Haruka.

Kud reached out to pet the new cat, “Did Kyousuke name this one too?” It seemed likely, since he apparently gave all the cats weird names.

“They’re doing great! The prefects are keeping them busy,” (particularly in regards to a certain Haruka Saigusa), “But I still have time to play with them, so it’s alright.”

It might seem strange to others for a dog person and a cat person to get along like this so well, but if anything, it actually seemed to give the two girls something in common.

Rin smiled nervously. She wasn’t very strong in English either, but she knew that Kud was working hard on hers. So she had to give her best effort for her friend too.

“H-haro, Kud… Um…” Unfortunately, her little knowledge didn’t carry her very far. She stood there nervously, not really knowing what else to say.

Kud stood for a moment before picking up the conversation, “Ah! Rin, have any new cats joined you recently?”

Even if Rin’s small army of cats were around, there was no way Kud could ever keep up with all her new additions. She wondered if anyone but Rin could keep up with so many cats.

Rin smiled nervously. She wasn't very strong in English either, but she knew that Kud was working hard on hers. So she had to give her best effort for her friend too.

"Ah..." Rin was too busy being engrossed by the grand halls and decorations to pay much attention to the girl in front of her. It took her several seconds to register that she was being spoken to. Even then, she was still distracted by her surroundings. "Hello..." she said, while looking up at a chandelier.

“Ehh? People? Quick everyone, hide!” Rin promptly picked up a handful of cats, while leaving a few left on the ground, and stumbled over to behind a bush and dumped them there. Most of the cats landed on their feet, with a “nya~” as they hit the ground. Rin poked her head out of the bush, hoping they weren’t still watching.

Seeing a young girl in front of her… well, within seconds, she disappeared behind a bush with cats. That was… interesting. She tilted her head slightly before looking straight up and heading towards her. “H-Hello? It’s nice to meet you…” It was slightly obvious that she was hiding there.

Rin nearly jumped when she saw the girl in front of her. How did she find her so fast? She hid the cats as fast as she could. Was that not enough? Well, no matter, but now this was a predicament. There was unfamiliar girl in front of her, greeting her. She wished it was someone she knew instead. Like Kud or Komari or Riki. They were nice people. Was the girl in front of her nice too? 

"Um, h-hello..." she shyly greeted back.

"I'm not sure. I don't know many places to visit outside of this school. Maybe Mt. Fuji. My brother told me that if you climb to the very top of it, you can see all around the world."
