my tragic story of researching a dance

okay SO we have this dance in Poland that we always do on summer camps, scout camps, proms, weddings, school, pilgrimages and stuff like that. and it’s not like you dance it once and you’re done, we were literally dancing it 10+ times in a row at camp and it’s amazing but by the end you feel like after a marathon. so in polish it’s called ‘belgijka’ (literally “a belgian woman”) or ‘taniec belgijski’ (”belgian dance”) and i wanted to know where this dance is from (people told me it’s not from Belgium and the name is just because) . so i first checked out youtube and most of the videos of people dancing were from Poland and a few from Ukraine so i knew either this dance is not known or there are other names for it which i found out after an hour of searching that THERE ARE, the two most common being “Chapelloise” and “All American Promenade” and it comes most likely from France or Sweden. so i searched that and yup there were videos of people dancing it from all over but to different songs and i was so confused because everyone in Poland dances it to the same song (Laïs- 't Smidje) and i’m suddenly seeing people dancing it to fucking cotton eye joe and i’m like ???? what’s happening. so that’s my story of researching the cooles freakin dance ever. if people are not familiar with it this is how it looks like and the record in Poland for number of people who danced it simultaneously is 1428.
