On my Chaldea Polycule shit again. Thinking about how early on after Ritsuka's relationship with Mash becomes romantic, Mash has to deal with some nagging moments of jealousy when Master shows affection for other servants. At first she tries to suppress these feelings because she fears they will disrupt her relationship with her senpai, but in truth, these aren't feelings of jealousy, but rather fears of inadequacy. Chaldea has so, so many powerful servants, servants more powerful than she will ever be, servants who, at least in Mash's view, are more beautiful and attractive than she feels she is. She isn't jealous, she's afraid that she doesn't measure up to the others who also hold Ristuka's love. Ristuka spending less time with others will not fix these feelings, because really, this is not about Ritsuka's feelings, it's about Mash's self-worth.
And so, despite her fears of causing problems, she talks about how she feels with Ritsuka. And Ritsuka probably has to fight back tears for a moment before holding Mash tight and telling her in no uncertain terms, no matter how much she may love others, one thing will never change: Mash is her best friend, her closest ally, and above all, the most important person in her life. Her love for Mash is not measured by how powerful she is, how useful she is as a servant, or how she measures up to others. Mash has given Ristuka something that no one else ever could—a sure thing. No matter how unpredictable and chaotic her life gets, if Mash is there, she feels safe and loved.
And so if it weren't already affirmed, it is now, that Mash and Ritsuka are each other's primary partners, the nucleus of the polycule if you will 🥰
