Lena had just moved to Boston after taking the job as an on site medic for the Boston Raiders. She was still getting her feel for the city and had decided to get out of her apartment for the night when she had stumbled across this bar near the stadium. She was making small talk to one of the other medics she happened to see at the bar when she came in. She was taking a sip off of her whiskey when she heard the voice from behind her. Turning around, she saw Marleau walking up to her. She smirked and said, "mixing pain pills with alcohol, EXACTLY the type of behaviour a medic wants to see her patient partaking in." She smiled a bit and asked, "how does it feel?"

Cliff couldn't help but laugh at first. He had a hunch she would say something like that. "Hey, hey. Hey, in my defense I didn't take the pain pill," he said, shrugging with the drink in hand. To be fair, Marleau didn't feel like he really needed it. The pain wasn't to the point where he felt like he required it. "It's alright, could be much worse. I'm just trying to give it a minute and be cautious with it." He then accompanied her at the bar, the bartender greeting him again as he did. "Out on the town for the night are we?"
Sasha definitely took ballet.
Marly definitely plays golf a lot in the offseason.
Svetlana couldn’t help but to smile at the compliment. “It’s a beautiful house. Lucky my father has the money to help me pay for it.” She hummed out lightly before she was moving to pick his bags out of the back of the car, wheeling them to the front door. “The door should be open. How about you get comfortable in the living room? I’ll take your bags to your room.”
Ilya had made the plans to be in the house before Sasha arrived a couple days before. Luckily his flight was on time and eventually he was sat on the couch, waiting for the text from Svetlana to tell him they were on their way back. There was a mixture of excitement but also nerves in his stomach, gazing between his phone and the front door every now and then. It wasn’t until he heard the car outside that he stood up, brushing his shirt down.
This vacation was definitely what Sasha needed. With all of that shit in Moscow messing with him, this was definitely necessary. <”Beautiful indeed.>” It wasn’t exactly something he could relate to, but he was happy for her to have a place like this. He was already craving another cigarette as he walked in the door, or a nap. The nap would probably be more helpful given the timezone shift. “<Sounds perfect to me,>” he says with a shrug, following behind her as they walked into the house.
Sasha was completely surprised to see Ilya there in the living room waiting for them. “<You asshole!” he spoke, laughing soon after. That fucker. The same asshole that said he was going to be there tomorrow. Oh well, it was better already. “<Looks like tomorrow came early didn’t it? Hm?> he continued, laughing again as he went for a hug.

Shane's expression betrays him instantly. It's subtle. Just a slight widening of his eyes before he looks down too quickly toward his drink, but for someone as observant as Rose it probably says more than enough already.
"Wow, okay-" he mutters under his breath with the ghost of a laugh, rubbing briefly at his jaw as if buying himself time.
"That was easy to assume, huh?" he asks weakly, trying and failing to regain at least a little control over the situation. His fingers tighten slightly around his glass afterward. "But... yes. Hockey player."
"NHL." he adds after a beat, because apparently he has no self-preservation instincts anymore and apparently his ability to play it cool had completely abandoned him tonight.
Going through her thoughts, Rose thought it was an easy bit of speculation to make considering his circle of friends. She doubted that he would have met this mystery man any other way. Then again, he could surprise her, but she had hunch she was correct. Her smile prominent when she guessed, making a brief fist with her hand as she laughed lightly. “Knew it!” She had always thought there had to be more gay hockey players.
"Hmmmmmm." She took a second though, after, appearing in deep thought. With the glass of water in her hand, she thought further. While she knew a decent amount of hockey players, she wasn’t even sure where to begin on guessing. There was one path that came to her, and it was the one she would follow in her line of questioning. “Is he… an American player?” She thought it wouldn’t exactly narrow it down, but it would be a good start.

✘ ♕ ✘ Though Sasha took his time in savoring the croque monsieur, Ilya ate more efficiently, taking large bites of the greasy sandwich for energy. He to admit, though, the sounds coming from across the counter were hot as hell. Ilya always enjoyed knowing that he could take care of those in his inner circle, and hearing how happy Sasha was with the food pleased Ilya in ways he couldn't describe. To add that the hums escaping Sasha sounded downright dirty only made Ilya need to shift his stance, hiding what his sweatpants were failing at covering.
A heavy eye roll met Sasha as he swallowed his current bite. "<Especially one of those. You never behave. Maybe no one else is invited.>" It was a bluff. Ilya still fully intended on bringing his friends out that night. It was a gamble because Sasha had plenty of embarrassing stories from their childhood and no filter, but Ilya wasn't too worried. It was going to be a fun night.
While the sandwich was good and he was sated, he was already thinking about a snack or two. He blamed the lack of food from the previous day. Another bite was taken before he paused, paying close attention to him as he spoke. Sasha had a smirk across his face, laughing at his comments. He was already thinking of what he could spill.
"<But I'm such a well behaved boy, Ilya. Come onnnnn, you know this,>" he said, raising both brows as he took another small bite. He couldn't help but utter another laugh as he put the remaining portion on the plate, leaning forward as both elbows held him up on the tabletop. <"But I have so many gooood ones, and those stories clearly need an audience."> He was looking forward to going out, already thinking on what he could wear out.
Suddenly Shane's smile faded.
It felt like the entire world narrowed down to the man standing in front of him as several disconnected pieces abruptly slid into place. Sasha. Russian. Moscow. The accent. The name.
And then it clicked so seamlessly that Shane forgot to breathe for a second. He suddenly realized where he had heard that name before. His stomach twisted faintly.
"Your dad was a hockey coach?" the question slipped out before he could stop himself. Shane blinked immediately after, clearing his throat as if trying to recover from his own reaction.
"Sorry— I didn't mean for that to sound accusatory."
His smile returned, though this time it felt sheepish. Fragile. Almost hollow around the edges as he forced himself to look away from the model for a moment, gaze drifting somewhere towards some invisible point past the balcony instead.
"I just..." Shane exhaled softly through his nose. "I felt like I've heard that name before."
Sasha wasn’t entirely thinking too much into how he would respond, but the change in his eye was duly noted. He brought the cigarette back to his lips, raising a brow lightly at his question about his father. To him, it felt like a ….strange question to ask? It made him recall a conversation with Sveta, though.
“I wouldn’t say sounded …accusatory, really,” he spoke with a subtle laugh, shrugging as he held the cigarette at his side. At least, not to him. He wouldn’t say accusatory, but he wasn’t exactly sure what word he would use to describe it regardless. He put his free hand on his own chest. “Do you think …everyone named Sasha from Russia has father that’s hockey coach?” He then paused for a second, nearly deadpan before laughing again.
“Joking, joking, but yes. Dad was hockey coach for a really long time. Worked with men’s national team and …KHL?” He then brought the cigarette to his lips again, curious to his reply.
“Pasta with shrimp it is then. Sounds perfect.” She liked having him pick for her, especially when he had previous experience in the restaurant. He seemed to have good taste in things, so she trusted his judgement enough to know he wasn’t pulling one on her.
“Six days a week? Wow. That’s impressive.” She nodded her in approval at that. She definitely couldn’t go to the gym that many times a week even if she had the free time to do so. Eating healthy was her way of trying to keep her figure, which she definitely found easier when she was in California working. “Oh yeah, I can imagine being the villain in their eyes must be fun. I love how invested people get in the stories they build too; like the whole arch rivalry amongst players. I know some of it is real, but not always.” She had learnt that first hand with Shane and Ilya.
“I’d like to see that.” Was this her way of saying she was already enjoying the date? Perhaps, but she didn’t want to come on too strong.
“Six times a week is a lot, but I also look at it as like putting money in the bank? I’m sure that makes like zero sense, but like. Like it adds up, is what I’m trying to say?” he said with a light shrug, grabbing a drink of the nearby water. The waitress then dropped a beer off at the table when Rose ordered.
Cliff was already thinking about adding something else to this date. The more he thought about the night cruises, the better it sounded. He’d have to go with ...another boat company though. He recalls getting kicked off of the last one he did with Ilya once they got too drunk. That would be information for ...later.
“It’s kind of like in wrestling how they build up storylines to a degree? Like not completely, but still like different you know.” He leans back just a little, keeping his usual smile. “Maybe we could go sometime, while you’re here. If you're interested of course,” he remarked a little later, regarding the idea of the night cruise. Was he jumping the gun here? Yeah, potentially, but it wouldn’t be the first time he had. While Pike had planned this part of the date, the rest of the planning on the fly fell to him. His stomach then growled at that moment, bringing out a laugh in him. "Oops."
