The really scary part about Doctor who being shopped around is most people don't know just *how fucking close* we came to Tom Cruise (or any American Big Name, tbh) being the Doctor in 94-95.
All I’m saying is if and when another production company takes over Doctor Who they have the chance to pull the funniest possible prank by giving the Billie Piper Doctor their episode, explaining it away as the doctor trying on a new body or being able to get a surprise bonus regeneration in or whatever other sci fi bs they want to go for to line the actual new lead up. So picture this with me: The villain has been defeated. The new companion has been suitably dazzled. The Piper!Doctor says their final words. Regeneration (re)commences. Here's part of my rage. He knew. RTD fucking *knew*. He's been a part of this for over 35 goddamn years - back when Virgin were doing NAs/MAs. He knew what this show means. He heard the stories of queer people like me,broken people, people cast out, cast off and cast away. And he knew this show saved us. That that silly little alien in their silly little box saved lives. He knew
So he saved the show, and he heard a whole new generation tell whim what this silly little show means. How we had a show that spoke to us, said, no, *promised* we matter, that no human is irrelevant. He knew.
So one he pulls his biggest fucking con yet. He told us there were scripts. He told us there was a plan. He told us not to worry. And then he pulls this

atp i think my dr who wishlist is:
- trans presence not just on screen but behind the camera and especially in the writers' room. so much of thirteen's gender stuff on screen actively gave me the ick & i think that could be solved by getting a little nonbinary with it
- let the show be really properly global. yeah yeah it's a british treasure. whatever. i don't care. this show is so unique in being able to do anything and go everywhere and ALSO having such a global audience. acting like it's so universal in its love for humanity and then barely acknowledging the existence of most of the planet can only work for so long
- if the budget is going to be big then at LEAST blow it all on practical effects. this is something i do have to praise the rtd2 team for tbf
- companions that aren't from contemporary britain. please. i think this kind of speaks to point 2 again but it just feels like the bare minimum
- longer seasons. enough said.
- you know what i just keep coming back to point 2 here. maybe it's because i got into doctor who around series 7-8, when the fanbase felt SO global, when they had the actors and the creators going on world tours to promote it, when some of the most iconic fanart-turned-official-art was done by a chinese-american artist. the show felt..... big. not in the sense that it's audience was big, but that its scope could keep on growing, that it had room for everyone. the most perfect version of doctor who that lives in my mind belongs to everyone, not just one country or one type of person. it should have a little bit of us all in it. that's where the magic is.
