ida lindhardt
âThank you,â Ida laughed, glad that he agreed with her on that one. Not everyone liked that she would just blatantly steal a dog like that, which was to be expected, but Ida stood by it nevertheless. âNo, he hasnât looked for me directly, but I once bumped into him randomly some other timeâ- it was only about a month after I took the dog, so it was kind of awkward. He didnât really recognize me at firstâ I could tell he was trying to place me, you know? And by the time he figured out who I was, I turned around and left. I was at Barneyâs in the city. I doubt he cares, honestly. Heâs probably just relieved that he doesnât have to worry about taking care of the dog anymore. Heâs an asshole, letâs be honest. Anyway, enough about me,â she said, beaming when she looked over at River again. âHow are you? How was the book tour? I havenât seen you in a while.â
âWhat kind of person has a dog just to neglect and abuse it? Whatâs the point? I---- Sorry, that just makes me so angry.â And River wasnât an angry person. He was, however, a survivor of neglect and abuse himself, so it struck a deep chord within him that boiled his blood and stiffened his frame. If he didnât like Ida enough before, her heroism to those who canât defend themselves only intensified his admiration for the columnist. He was elated that he could call the girl his friend. âWhatâs its name? Your pup, I mean.â He was smiling now, his momentary surge of negativity swept away with the mantraâs he had been learning in therapy. âIâm pretty good. Iâm still sort of in disbelief that I went on a book tour in the first place, if Iâm being honest.â Grinning, he straightened in his seat. âI actually started writing something new---- or, at least, attempting to. Next time I see you, you mind taking a look? I want your opinion.â
sierra moore
âYeah, neither do I. So I told him he was a paranoid, insane person and then left and went home. It was either that or start a full-blown argument, so I chose the adult option. Walk away, deal with it when weâre not drinking and surrounded by the whole damn town.â Sierra grumbled, sipping on her coffee. âHence the coffee; Iâm not ready to sort it yet. I need caffeine.â
âGood for you.â River didnât hesitate, but only put emphasis on those three words. This was waking him up, the writer suddenly invested in the officerâs affairs. Sitting up straighter in his seat, his gaze inspected her features, brows pulled together in pensive concern. âDo you have any idea what youâre going to say to him, or..?â
calvin mitchell
Seeing his friends expression turn into a happy one at the mention of his news, made Calvin grin - almost from ear to ear. âOnly for a few weeks. Iâm thrilled but itâs also been a lot to take in.â Cal nodded and shrugged lightly, though he shook his head at Rivers next question, âNope, nope.. not going to go down that road again. Itâs Sophie.â
âSophie Daniels!?â Riverâs face lit up in his elation. Calvin and Sophie. Now that was a match made in heaven. âI didnât even know you two were seeing each other! Thatâs---- Thatâs incredible, man. Iâm really happy for you.â River stood up momentarily from his seat to reach over and give his friend a bear hug, still grinning from ear to ear as he settled back in his seat. âHow far along is she? Do you know the sex yet?â

âIf my hair was a little lighter? You know I have like, dark brown hair? A little lighter is an understatement.â She laughed, he might have been high. She wouldnât have doubted it. âHereâs the thing about jokes.â She paused, âfor them to have any teeth, the person who is on the receiving end has got to understand them. And to be honest, I donât know anything about Twilight other than Robert Pattinson is Edwardâs hate club president. And you just happen to look exactly like him. So it bothers you. It doesnât bother me.â She shrugged, âyou tried though, Lilâ Sparks. You tired.âÂ
Throughout the brunetteâs deconstruction of what a joke was and how horribly River had butchered his attempt, the writerâs face sunk deeper and deeper into his hands the more shame he felt. For a quick moment, he wondered if heâd ever go back to his normal person again; it didnât feel like it. âLil Sparks?â His head had snapped up, tired eyes wide and his lips parted. âDid you just give me another nickname while shooting down the one I tried to give you in one breath? Thatâs.... Thatâs definitely not fair. Impressive, but not fair.âÂ
jennifer nolan
âYes, I see your face!â Giggling like the idiot she was, the blondeâs hands reached for his face and cupped his cheeks, squeezing him gently. âSo, freaking handsome. And smart. You look like a freaking genius. Who are you and what have you done to my River?â Unable to control her laugh, Jennyâs fingers rubbed his flushed cheeks before finally pulling her hands back to make him feel less uncomfortable. âI like all sides of you. Even the big-headed one. Itâs not like Iâm shy, so we would get along just fine I think.â
âJenny,â River whined, fingers curling around her slender wrists to pry her hands away from his face, blushing crimson throughout his laughter. Crystalline hues darted around their immediate vicinity to see a pair of women in their late sixties laughing at them, and his complexion only flushed harder. âPromise me that youâll never do something like that in public ever again, Jenny. Iâm going to need it in writing.â He was laughing throughout his desperate scold. After a moment, he was shaking his head, a chuckle shaking his chest. âMaybe the two of you would, but... but Iâm not that into him. I cringe when I think of him.âÂ
alese mac bradaigh
âjust hear me out, okay?â alese laughed. âtoo much of a good thing is never good, right? and it makes you smell weird. like, i swear to god, each morning after iâm sweating thai. itâs not cute.â she looked up at river, seeing the excitement grow on his features. he was so adorable sometimes. she knew that he considered himself to be a nuisance to her on occasion, but he was actually pretty easy to make happyâ and when he was happy, she was happy too. âi bet you will.â the designer said in a joking low voice as she rubbed her flat belly exaggeratedly. âboth! i want the crepes like we had that one timeâ the one that has bacon and eggs in it with the maple syrup?â she pulled out her own phone, shooting a text to her assistant about her impending late arrival. alese stood up, leaving her phone at her glam station; she wrapped both of her arms around river, leaning her head on him. âiâm hungrrryyyyyyy just thinking about it.â she whined dramatically.Â
âI canât believe that. Since when did two rights make a wrong? Too much of a good thing is never bad. And, hey, I like it. Especially when I kiss up neck and it tastes like pad thai. Really gets me going.â River snickered and winked at her, his tongue sticking out, before breaking into laughter at his own jest. It felt nice to do that nowadays. He watched her make a decision out of the corner of his eye, grinning to himself at how excitable she got over their favourite crepes. âGood call. Letâs add that aged cheddar too. Oh, god, I already know this is going to be the best decision I make all day. Maybe all week.â His stomach growled on cue, and River chuckled at the resonance whilst pressing âsendâ on their order, all in time for him to feel Aleseâs slender arms wrap around him from behind. Locking his phone, he turned in the embrace and started to pepper kisses across her face. âI got us some fresh fruit on the side. You know, just to make us feel better about ourselves. We donât even really have to eat it.â

She watched the internal struggle he was having, but it wasnât her fault he was Edward reincarnated. âUh, no. Thatâs not how it works. I donât look like a character from Twilight. Thatâs all you, bud.âÂ
âYou totally could. Actually... if your hair was a little lighter, and your skin was ten shades paler, you actually sort of look like the blonde vampire. Whatâs her name...â Snapping his finger in deep thought as he recalled both the book and the movie--- unfortunately ---the name finally came to him. âRosalie! Yeah, thatâs her name. Iâll call you... Rose. NO. Rosie. Rosie Rosie. There.â
danny riggs
âGet out of the way! Move! Getout-getout-getout!â
â-------- You okay?â Riverâs voice, winded from his swift escape from impending doom, held full of concern as he watched the guy tumble off his skateboard.Â

alese held her diamond drop earrings up to her ear, clearly judging whether or not theyâd go well with her ensemble. oh, who was she kiddingâ diamonds really WERE a girlâs best friend, and they went with everything. unlike river, aside from her heel-less feet, she was dressed for the work day. she had a very important model client coming in, someone sheâd worked very hard to nab for an upcoming cover for the fashion companyâs magazine representative. it was all very inconvenient; sheâd been gone for a few weeks as it was, it wouldâve been nice to stay in with her boyfriendâ but that was business. a hint of a smile played on her liquid lipstick coated lips as her eyes fell on the reflection of his mop of curls. âiâm kind of over thai.â she half-joked, giggling.âi might be willing to delay leaving by an hour if some choice brunch food was involvedâŠâ
A low gasp sounded into ivory skin, his head lifting out of her neck a beat later so his eyes could lock with her own chocolate hued gaze in the mirror, lips open and parted in his dramatic and overemphasized shock. âOver thai? Is that even possible?â He broke in his jest, chuckling a moment later, only for his grin to grow dimpled and all revealing once she agreed to hang back for an hour. River was aware that his desperation to spend some extra time with her today was utterly selfish of him, especially since he KNEW the workload she had to deal with as of late, but the writer had time to guilt over it later. Now, it was time for brunch. âDeal. I can get it to us in thirty minutes if I order now. Iâll make it worth your while.â Placing a giddy kiss against the crook of her neck, River pulled away in order to grab his phone, pull up an app, and start typing away. âWhat are you in the mood for, baby? Sweet or savoury? Or both?â
casey mitchell
He snorted, and he knew he shouldnât be laughing at other peopleâs expense, given that the man still looked a bit disoriented, but he found amusement in his reluctance. âYouâre not sure?â he asked. âI mean, I guess that happens to me, too. Like, when I come into a room and forgot what I was doing there, but knew that I was supposed to do something. And then I leave and then I remember.â
When the other couldnât help but laugh, neither could River, and a sheepish smile swept across his own features. It was pretty funny how ridiculous he must have looked to the cafeâs patrons. If the words exhausted and disoriented had to take physical form, it would be Riverâs Adams appearance, no doubt. âOh, I know that feeling, almost too well. Or, when youâre talking on the phone for a while, do you ever spend a minute or two searching for your cell before realizing youâve had it against your face the whole time? Because I do that, a lot.â
riley mason
âYou do.â She said shortly with a nod, cutting straight to the point rather than beating around the bush. Maybe she should have cared a bit more about his feelings, after all, he was looking rather distraught about the whole thing, even if it was a laugh and a half to her. âYeah, Sparkle Sparkle.â She shot him a wink, âtoo late. I like it now, I can never call you anything else.â She didnât even know his real name, she didnât need to now, he had a better name. âExcuse you, itâs not a bad nickname, its the best, and only nickname youâre ever gonna need.âÂ
When he realized that the nickname wasnât going anywhere anytime soon, River pushed his face into his hands and groaned as he accepted his fate. âI hate mondays,â he muttered unintelligibly into his hands before dragging his face out of his calloused palms. He was smiling slightly, even in the muted despair that came with his new nickname, she was still amusing. It was amusing. Thank god he was learning to laugh at himself nowadats. âWell, if I have a nickname, shouldnât you have one too?â he asked the girl with a slight narrow of crystalline hues. âI think--- I think thatâs only fair...â
