Our first load of Leatherwood honey from our hard working bees down the Southwest 😊. It is an amazing and unique tasting honey (seems you either love it or loathe it 😊) from the Leatherwood tree (Eucryphia lucida). The Leatherwood is endemic to the West of Tasmania, particularly areas like the Tarkine and the SouthWest Wilderness. Sadly it takes a long time to become established and things like forestry practices and bushfires can really threaten the Leatherwood areas. Looks like the unusually cold, poorly timed, February weather has cut the season short. Been a tough year for the bees in some parts of Tasmania.

Interesting look at some of the hives this week. Looking at the honey stores shows not much has been flowering. Hopefully we will get more reliable rain next spring. Winter close down has begun early 🙁 and efforts are being made to prevent European wasps becoming an issue.
