Values
As of the moment, I value the people around me the most. For me, my relationships with other people have always been more important than any material object I could have or any pleasure that I could indulge in. I value them most because nothing in this world could ever replace the love, care, comfort, support, and respect they give me; they uplift me, give me true happiness, and make me a better person. They basically complete me as a person as without them thereâs no point in living. That is why I would rather have my OFW father go home even if he doesnât have any gifts or âpasalubongâ to give because, for me, the best he could give is his time and presence. The reason why I join friends when they hangout despite of the fact that I would prefer staying at comfort of my home is because they are precious to me and a great treasure. Hence, I wouldnât exchange the people around me, friends and family, for the world - I value them the most and they are my rarest jewels.
Tech Dominance
It is an irrefutable fact that technology is of great importance and help to people; however, due to the rapid growth and development of such to the point that it could literally do various tasks in a matter of seconds, people are now over reliant on technology and get through a day without the assistance of such. Basically, technology now has become a basic necessity today which is why everyone would have their mobile phones with them every day at all time as they would use them for simple tasks of communicating, playing, and even researching. Thatâs right, people of today, relies on technology to communicate with others which, sadly, now lessens real-time interaction and continues to disconnect people even more rather than actually connecting them. Â Secondly, people seems to rely on technology for games - probably the reason why more people are now nonathletic and even unhealthy since physical recreation are less done and less preferred by people who rather works in their consoles, personal computers, or mobile phones that doesnât require a lot of physical movements. Lastly, going to libraries and even reading books have become an inconvenience and a hassle to do because everything that they want to know is given to them very quickly by just going through the internet; no need to look for different books to research as people as they could literally use their phones to do it and there they will do their âextensiveâ research. It even came to a point that that people are making their phones as an alternative to their doctors as they will ask Google what is wrong and, unknowingly, some could be ignorant enough to really believe in everything that Google says even if it is the most absurd thing already - minor problems are exaggerated. Hence, it is obvious that technology improved the quality of life of people but it also made people to depend on such too much that they canât live without them anymore which creates a negative effect rather than actually helping them.
Summer Night
It was the summer of 2015; the night was perfect, with the refreshing breeze of the late summer winds kissing my face, and the cool, relaxing waters hugging my entire body. I could hear the loud yet sweet laughter of my happy-go-lucky siblings and the ecstatic conversation of a couple separated for a long time due to working as an OFW. The simple yet precious time we had that night will forever be treasured in my heart - after all, itâs not everyday that we get to be complete as a family; so we let ourselves relax and indulge in the moment, forgetting our troubles and drowning ourselves in total euphoria.
Itâs almost time to end the night; but before that, we let our muscles relax next as much as it deserves after all the work and stress it had to put up with the whole year long. We prepare ourselves; my brother and I enter to weird room with nothing but a seat and water in it; I had no idea what will happen but I just went with the flow, My brother and I enters the room with nothing but our white towels wrapped around our waist. We sat and conversed when, suddenly, sweat starts running down our barely-clothed bodies - the temperature kept rising but we didnât care because all we want is to relax and escape the cruel and rough reality weâd face the next day. We drank water to make sure we donât dehydrate from the scorching, hot room we were in - like being cooked with no flames.
Weâve finished and went outside, soaking wet by the sweat excreted after a few minutes inside; but we moved on and went to another room where we laid on our chest, relaxing with the sweet sound of the calming music meant to relax our ind as a man caressed and massaged every muscle in our body. At that point, my mind was blank due to me being very relaxed and calm - enough to make me sleep.
After that, we all went back to our rooms and conversed with one another about our experiences we had that day; we were all enjoying as we take pictures that serves as a remembrance. But, I know that didnât need pictures as the perfect breezy night of the summer of 2015 was night that canât be forgotten.
Governmental Corruption
The Philippines has been facing a lot of social issues ever since; but barely any of these issues gets resolved because of a corrupt and problematic government, who avoids confronting big issues by making unimportant issues a big deal, are running the country. One of the overemphasized issues is regarding education.Â
To clarify, education is a big problem in the Philippines and should be resolved by the government; however the aspect of education that the government focuses on are, as I said earlier, unimportant and least problematic ones. An example of these issues is about homework, an issue that was unheard of until the Philippine government decided to meddle with it by saying that schools should have a no-homework policy which was very open to debate. This policy, of course, mainly affects teachers especially since homework for them is very essential to the learning and improvement of the students. In addition, they claim that these homework are just short and easy to do that wouldnât even consume much time anyway; hence, governmentâs claim that homework lessen the familyâs quality time is fallacious as these homework are not hard to do and itâs really up to the students on how they manage their time.
Thus, the teachers proposed a compromise instead. One of which is that teachers should have a no-homework policy only during Fridays so that students will have a lot of time to spend with their family over the weekend; yet, teachers are still allowed to give homework that would great help the students especially the struggling ones who canât easily grasp ideas quickly. In simpler terms, the proposed bill is quite useless and unreasonable used to cover bigger issues in todayâs society like discrimination, poverty, and corruption while hindering the learning of the next generation in the process.
