NY, Hurricane Irene, Bucket List?
Well New York City has certainly proved to be unpredictable. I thought moving here from Oregon I could escape the aweful weather but it appears that wherever I go, I am doomed to suffer the inclimate weather. I have been pushing through the rain storms, thunder and lightning, as well as the dreadful heat waves that have passed through.
This past weekend NYC was on a hurricane warning due to hurricane Irene which was sweeping up the eastern seaboard. I am no stranger to preparing for a hurricane as we have them in Hawaii but it was the first time I would be alone in a scary situation. I had to prep my house, stock up on food and water and hang out all weekend, alone in my apartment. All in all it wasnt the most pleasant situation but luckily the storm caused no damage to my part of town.
This weekend, while waiting out the storm in my apartment, I learned the importance of technology (in the absence of real people). I spent my weekend enjoying Netflix and reading my new book, The Help, on my ipad. So far I enjoy the book, the language was a little rough to get used to at first but now its a cinch.
Today marks the beginning of my last three weeks in New York City, and it is starting to dawn on me that I will greatly miss this big city. I dont want to think about leaving or packing or heading back to Eugene, which now, in comparison, will seem so dull. No more late night deliveries (unless I want to eat pizza *yuck*), no more subway rides- its back to driving and most of all, back to school. I am excited to head back to school to finish up my last two terms at the UO but I will miss this environment.
Since I am wrapping up my last couple of weeks here in the city I have decided to make a bucket list if you will for the remainder of my trip. The following is my list of some of things to accomplish before I leave (as it comes down I am crossing them off):
Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge
Take the ferry to Staten Island (to say I've been to all 5 boroughs)
Explore Central Park (some more)
See the Metropolitan Museum of Art
Go to the Guggenheim Museum
Visit the New York Library
Buy something Designer in NY
Explore the Upper West Side
Go on a double decker bus tour
Go to the top of the empire state building
Museum of Natural History.
See St. Patricks Cathedral
Go to Bloomindales for fun
