Our natural vineyard has had a rough couple of months with mildew but as few as the Syrah plants are, there are some lovely looking bunches growing

These beauties have just started to flower today!

Our natural vineyard had been loving the rains in the last couple months, all life is blooming! We'll need to cut away the grasses & some plants so the vines can have some air & space as it gets hotter for the summer, but not all of them. We want to keep the incredible biodiversity.

The vineyard is busting with all kinds of life at the moment. This particular beauty is thriving.

Spring is here & the vines are doing their best to revive after a tough year last year!

I'm trying to get better at recording moments in the #vineyard development so that we can learn year on year. Our vines are probably over 20 years old, they are beautiful & resilient to survive & still keep pushing despite the extreme weather in recent years 💚

So here goes, worts and all ;)

A little commentary about the syrah on 31 Aug '23

Syrah grapes, 9 rows in, somewhere near the middle. Ones to watch over the coming days to see how they fair. The syrah has struggled this year with the crazy heat along with perfect conditions for mildew. But they are trying hard to keep going!

A perfect August day in the vineyard

Just back from a beautiful morning helping friends Jen & Didier vendange their grenache gris from which they'll make a new orange wine. Started at 7.30, breakfast in the vineyard for a break, finished by 11.30. I love the tradition of people helping out that still continues here.

The grapes were plentiful & ripe, though Jen thought maybe some weren't ripe enough. It puts into perspective just how not ripe our grapes are so a real dilemma whether we should go ahead to vendange early or not.
