Am I the only one sick of in-app purchasing for free games. I mean, I guess it can be cheaper than the old quarter slot for Pac-Man. But 15.99 to buy 150 turns a game, pssh.
Perhaps I need to adjust my outlook and get me some of that pie since there are so many people willing to pay.
Alright, 2015...
If 2015 is even half as good as 2014, it will be another epic year

A great cheat sheet for the Phaser game engine.
Saying goodbye to Posthaven
The search for a platform somewhere between Twitter and WordPress has been long and somewhat painful.
There are lots of great platforms, new and old. I tried Silvrback, Ghost, Posthaven, SquareSpace, Blogger, Wordpress.com, Wordpress (self-hosted), Typepad... but none really hit the mark. Too expensive for the casual user. Too complex. Too simple. Too many unfulfilled promises.
Of the bunch, I think Posthaven was closest to what I wanted. But it seems it has been orphaned. Bummer.
Perhaps Tumblr will be the final stop.
Idea: Responsive Soundboard
This could be a fun side project. I found again today when this would be handy. Need to get off my butt and just do it.
It might be a good way to test a few frameworks too.

Buncha poopy pants!
I never cease to be amazed by the number of "poopy pants" that post off topic ego-driven comments in article threads. To me this is not the same as trolling.
I'm glad you are a professional designer and think "product X" is for newbs, wannabes and hacks. But I don't need a lecture on your greatness and how much of a badass you are. If you were so great, you wouldn't need to be stroking your own ego is a discussion thread anyway.
JavaScript timer with interval action!
http://codepen.io/rndOutput/full/tBder
Yes, I know it's not visually stimulating. Do you want pretty or useful code? :)
The purpose of the script is to demonstrate basic timer control in JavaScript and also how to take an action after 10 seconds. I originally crated it to refresh some on-screen data from an XML file.
I've tried to document the source and I have left console outputs to make debugging easier.
What does it do?
Every 10 seconds it shows and then hides a <div> containing the word BOOM!!! The value of the variable tick is used to keep track of the timer event count. This same information is output to the console. (open a debug friendly view )
To change the interval update this:
if ( tick % 10 == 0)
In plain English is means if you divide the value of tick by 10 and the remainder is 0.
If that looks strange, have a look at JavaScript Operators on the W3 Schools site.
Neat reproduction of an old monochrome display in HAML.
A good place to start. Displays local and GMT.

Too much choice
One of the many problems with the world today is too much choice. Granted it's a minor problem, but it's still a problem.
It's across the whole spectrum of goods and services we have to pick from. Case in point, Cookies. Specifically creme-filled sandwich cookies or Oreos if you prefer. Take a look down the Cookie isle at the grocery store. It's nuts. Five different kinds of Oreos plus one or two generic brands. Each of those having more than one choice. How do you know which to choose?
This applies to techies too. There may be fewer choices than the cookie isle, but the subtle variances make all the difference in tech too. Which web host do you choose? Which IDE? Which language do you use for your project? Which cell phone, TV or laptop do you pick? Do I buy at the bleeding edge or 1 generation back. Which MMO do you play? XBOXOne or PS4?
It's great for business business in the sense that consumers spread the wealth around. But it's bad to because there is a lot of waste and unfulfilled needs. Or in a worst case you have to pick two because each offers something you want, that the the other doesn't.
