finally got around to making a new salem ref using changes i made to him forever ago but never actually drew. like him being way smaller (literally a full foot shorter) and no glasses because i despise drawing them :]
i am not delusional enough to think i can participate in artfight this year, i tried the last 2 years and could only make myself do a couple of drawings before giving up. my depression and chronic fatigue/pain has just gotten beyond that point. it's not like it ever even felt worth it anyways since i so rarely got anything back lmao
most of what i have been doin lately has just been design work for ocs that either haven't been drawn before or were incredibly outdated. i haven't had the energy or mental capacity for anything more interesting than Dude Standing In The Void :/

i'm not good at just dumping oc lore all at once, that's shit you usually have to befriend me and then learn slowly over time lmao, but i can try!
(^ i don't have any particularly recent art of him because i haven't been too focused on fallout lately, those are from 2025)
first of all you gotta understand that i hated the lore of honest hearts so much that i left it out of Salem's lore entirely but i liked Zion as a setting so i just decided he was from there.
he doesn't remember a lot of his own early life after being shot in the head and certainly not after getting lobotomized in OWB, but the general gist of it is him and his sister were forcefully removed from the canyon along with a group of other teenagers by a roving group of mercenaries that i never really bothered fleshing out since it's all part of lore he doesn't remember anyway. eventually he broke away from the group (regrettably leaving his sister behind) and started taking on odd jobs alone until landing on being a mailman, which of course leads to the start of FNV.

Tsela is his real name and Salem was just an alias, he picked it by seeing Winston-Salem on an old map and reversing the order. in the meta sense i named him Salem back when i first made him (literally in 2013) and changed his name to Tsela later but he had been Salem for so long it was too hard to get the friend group to readjust so i just made them both correct names (i have seen someone thinking the name Salem is supposed to just be a nickname of his real name, and no it's not lmao)
he's a trans man :]
originally i made him tall as fuck for fun (6'6") but lately i have been considering Shrinking Him, so who knows
already needed glasses to begin with but the bullet to the skull made his right eye basically useless so it's even worse now <3 (except i hate drawing his glasses so erm...)
he loves to cook, and hates prewar food sooo much. but it's sometimes just unavoidable
melee build kind of man. also pretty knowledgeable in medical stuff
^ later in the plot he starts helping the followers of the apocalypse a lot
tries to be a pacifist when he can but sometimes that's just Not The Right Choice. and with Benny specifically he was kinda blinded with rage because that man took his entire sense of self when he shot him and made him forget his whole life, kinda wanted to rip him apart with his teeth
extreme chronic migraine haver
has claustrophobia, he doesn't know why because the memory that caused it is gone now (trapped in a cave as it collapsed and was not found by his family for 2 days)
his sister is out there looking for him but he doesn't even remember she exists
he's literally silly. he loves jokes and being a smart-ass.

everyone complimenting the painting style of the card is shocking to me because i straight up don't know how to paint nor do i enjoy doing it lmao. i am an exaggerated shapes cell shading emphasis on lineart kind of man. my cartoons.
