“How do you deal with it all? It’s like my world keeps crashing down anytime I try to pick myself up.”
I wish I could give you advice that’d take it all away, but that’s just not possible 😕 I can, however, tell you what I wish someone told me..
1. You’ll have good days, and you’ll have bad days. You’ll go weeks feeling like you’ve moved passed it all, and then one random nightmare will send you straight back to your old habits. But that’s okay. Don’t lose hope. You aren’t broken, you’re healing. And that process is different for everyone.
2. Talk to your family about it. And if you aren’t comfortable telling your family (like I was/still am), then tell your friends. Its never a good idea to keep those things to yourself. They eat you alive and make you feel isolated from the world. I cannot tell you how amazing it feels, knowing what happened to me isn’t something I need to hide or be ashamed of. And on that note - People won’t judge you for what happened. I’ve been shown nothing but compassion and sympathy from those I’ve shared my experiences with. I know it’s hard to believe, but trust me on this one.
3. Lastly, you can still love yourself. Continue to treat yourself right. Take showers. Eat well. Lay in the sun. Exercise. Do things you enjoy, even if you think you don’t deserve it. It’s a strange mindset to get yourself out of. Thinking you don’t deserve to be happy. But you do, even more so than before.
