Today I did my long run of the week. I ran 6 miles like a goddang sucker before realizing I was supposed to just do 5!
Long run! My first 5 miler and one of the longest runs I've ever done, other than a few 10ks. Pretty cool to look at this heart rate graph and see exactly when I took my *short* walking breaks.
Sorry for the lack of updates! This week has been a bit of a disaster...
I did wake up early on Monday to do a 4-mile run before this week's craziness began. Tuesday morning I woke up and did a hilarious YouTube yoga video and then went for a long walk. I'm still on the hunt for a good, free yoga video. Yesterday I had grand plans to get up and do a cross training workout, and then I just...didn't. Haha. Today I've got a packed schedule, and it's freakishly cold outside, so I probably won't do anything.
But tomorrow!!! Tomorrow is the 5-mile run. It's happening. And then I rearranged my workout schedule this week to accommodate many social events, so I am doing my usual strength training class on Sat. Here's to getting back on track after a couple of luxurious days of rest.
These calorie counts can't be right. Even for a giant human such as myself.
Tuesday is almost over, thank god! I just finished a four mile run. Yesterday I did 25 min on the elliptical and then my strength training class. Woo! Last Friday, I did a four mile run as well. I tried to work out on Sat but the gym was closed for a volleyball tournament, oops!
This week has been kind of crappy so far, but it's nice to know that I'm getting my workouts in.
Just finished my long run for the week - 4 miles at a pace of about 12:30/mile. Slow but steady!
Wednesday recap! On Monday I ran a mile and did my weight lifting class. Yesterday I ran a mile and then did my usual cycle class. Today I ran 4 miles at a slow pace (but no walking!). Now I am going to drink beer and eat chicken tacos, because I am officially sick of winter! It snowed about three inches while I was at the gym, and my car slid around on the way home. I can't wait to be able to run outside!!!
Teachers at my school are doing a fitness challenge right now. This is my second week on top! Guess I should have chosen a higher goal!
I did my 30 min of cross training at the gym today on the Arc Trainer. I guess this is like a Nordic Track? Anyway, I put the thing on "cardio/strength" and it put me through a sort of stair climber workout. Very awful. Cross training is terrible, but as a giant dude I am pretty nervous about injuring my knees and ankles with all this running, and I know doing other activities on the "rest days" is important. I've also been running with music lately. For whatever reason, I used to always listen to podcasts while I exercised. I still like to do that if I'm doing something like weights, but I've really enjoyed running with music and picking out specific songs that match my running pace. I know that running with music is frowned upon a big races, but I think that Pam and I may have to put together a badass mix for this half marathon!
Weekend recap! I didn't make it to the gym on Wednesday (gasp!) so I added a 2-mile run to my Thursday workout, which is a stretching yoga-esque class called Bodyflow. On Friday I did my 4-mile run, and I finally tried it out on the treadmill to get a sense of my pace. I ran it at about a 12-minute mile, though I started out closer to a 13-minute mile and gradually sped up, running the last mile at an 11:30 pace. Like most of my long runs, I feel kinda bad until the 3rd mile and then I get into it.
A today I did 45 minutes on the elliptical on the "fat burn workout" setting. I also just ate an enormous chicken sandwich. We are expecting snow tomorrow night so I hope it doesn't interfere with my usual transportation to and from the gym!
Next week is the official "week one" of the Hal Higdon program. Bring it!
Wednesday is here, and things have not been going as planned this week! On Monday my usual strength training class started up again for the semester, so I went to that. It was so hard after taking a month off! But it happened. Yesterday I went to some practice job talks for colleagues of mine, which got out late so I didn't get to the gym until 6:45 pm. I still managed to run 4 miles, though! Today has been hectic and I am not going to make it to the gym. When planning my exercise schedule I generally try to build in enough time before any scheduled group fitness class to run 1-2 miles, so tomorrow I will try to take advantage of that and do the 2-mile run that I was supposed to do today before my body flow class. Getting into the Wednesday routine is not so simple, I guess.
Weekend recap
Friday was supposed to be my rest day, but Sarah was going to the gym so I went with her. I like exercising with a buddy. I did my Saturday cardio (bike) and watched Shark Tank. Saturday I rested. Presented at a tech conference in Waukegan and went to see Selma. Sunday I did my 4 mile run. It felt good!
Early birthday present to myself! I love my TomTom Runner watch. Can't wait to take it out onto the roads where I can put it to better use.
Weekend recap! I switched my Fri/Sat workouts and did the 4-mile run yesterday. It was very slow, but not a lot of walking. I felt pretty good! Today I feel tired so I did an easy 45 minutes on the elliptical. Done and done. I am SO excited to have tomorrow off, I'm going to be such a sloth.
3 mile run and some strength training at the gym. Can't wait for tomorrow's rest day.
Thursday night is here! I did make it to the gym yesterday for a 2-mile run. Not bad. Tonight I went to an hour-long gentle yoga-style class called Bodyflow. It was amazing! A good chance to stretch. The plan for the rest of the week is a combo short run/cross train workout tomorrow (either elliptical, stairclimber, or rowing machine) and then the big 4-mile run on Saturday. Wish me luck! This is so many workouts!
Holy crap am I tired. 3 miles today, took it pretty slow.
