Great find!
Enjoyed some warm ramen and a large Sapporo with a Hibiki Harmony. Good spot in NYC.

The excitement of what’s to come reminds me of when I was a kid and Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark toys were released at Toys R Us. I know it sounds silly, but for a boy growing up in the 80’s I relate it to possibly the Cabbage Patch Doll frenzy or when you could actually burn data on cd’s for the first time. I receive updates from different sites and every day becomes more excited. I know there are everyday whiskeys that are just as good or even better (in some opinions), but the celebrity of the Buffalo Trace Signature Series is like an autograph from Harrison Ford. I really want a bottle of each to put on a shelf and look at them everyday, and of course sip occasionally. I know it’s going to bring back the days of camping out in front of toy stores on shipment receiving day seeing grown men leap over turnstiles to grab a rare Rino Marvel action figure just to sell it to Frank and Sons, but the anxiety of the battle is exciting. I’ll share my wins and losses as I come across them. Good luck to all and send pictures!
Horse and Barrel Bourbon House is a great little bar with a large Whiskey selection. Located in downtown Cincinnati, it makes a great stop before or after grabbing a meal. I was able to enjoy 2 samples of a private select barrel of Woodford Reserve and the much anticipated Knob Creek 2001. Knob creek 2001 batch 1 Nose is sweet and you kind of feel the heat on your nose! Very sweet syrup a little warm but very enjoyable. Starts out soft and delicate with some spice and notes of caramel with a smooth and warm finish. I will be looking for a bottle and hope to add one to the collection soon. The story, age, and quality are all great reasons to grab a bottle. If you find yourself looking for a great spot in Cincinnati, please stop by Horse and Barrel, tell them I sent you.
Great find today!
Well, today was a day to say the least. My morning started off with broken samples for a meeting in Arkansas. Meetings finished early, so I stopped by a couple liquor stores in NW Arkansas. I met Oscar in the 3rd store I visited. A very friendly man, he offered me a taste of his single barrel 9yr George Dickel. Instantly I was impressed with the nose and rich, slightly warm caramel flavors. We discussed Whiskey and shared some of our favorites. I purchased a bottle of his private barrel and was looking forward to more tasting when I got home. I made it to DFW for my transfer, and there I sat for 5 hours due to delays and chasing stand by tickets. Eventually I got out of there, landing at LAX at 10pm instead of 4:30pm. I headed to Starbucks to grab a coffee, so I can stay awake for the ride home. In line I smelled what I thought was a drunk traveler. I then realized the smell was really pleasant and interesting, like a good whiskey. I looked down and noticed my suitcase was soaking wet. Yes, my bottle exploded. Not only did the bottle disintegrate into what I would describe as glass powder, it ruined my suit, dress shirts, and a new pair of Levi’s. Most importantly, my special find was lost. The ride home was long, but accompanied by a very pleasant oakey sweet vanilla Tennessee Whiskey aroma. An aroma I would much rather be drinking right now instead of trying to wash it out of my shirts. The lesson of the day, protect the Whiskey!
Please stop by and say hello to Oscar! https://m.facebook.com/nathanscellar/
I was able to visit the amazing Gig Harbor and stopped by Heritage Distilling Co. There is a pretty cool tasting bar and retail shop with cask club barrels lining the walls. A detailed tasting and cocktail menu is offered, with a bonus if you purchase a bottle. The staff was both friendly and knowledgeable, and it was a joy to hang out with them. I sampled Elk Rider Bourbon and Double Barrel Bourbon, as well as Elk Rider Rye and Double Barrel Rye. The double Barrel or second barrel is a vanilla barrel. In both double barrels, I was able to pick up on extra rich Vanilla flavors. This was a little unexpected when I sampled the Bourbon Double Barrel. I prefer both the Elks over the double barrel, but I always lean towards more traditional flavors. Elk Rider Bourbon was smooth to start with notes of Oak first and then finished with subtle honey and oats. A good bourbon that has aged 2 years. Elk Rider Rye was my favorite. It was super smooth with a citrus and honey start and a slight peppery classic rye finish. I highly recommend trying their infused spirits. I enjoyed the wide variety of flavored Vodkas and believe you could create a fun bar with all the spirits Heritage Distilling Co. has to offer.
