Her eyes narrowed as she tilted her head. She went over her words wondering where the concern had been hidden. Maybe she was losing her touch. Either way, Elizabeth rolled her eyes. “I can think of plenty of things that beat all of those things.” she quipped lightly. “Don’t thank me… it wasn’t concern.. it was disdain. Park naps are for homeless people and dogs.. which I assume you are neither… well I mean you could be homeless but I’m going to be nice and give you the benefit of the doubt.” 

“Do you talk to all strangers like that?” those were the words Rob had come to use instead of answering anything, or rather confirming whether or not he was a homeless man. It clearly wasn’t necessary as first impressions have settled, and it was in fact how little tact she had that shook him. “You don’t have to be so rude.”

lena made her rounds to all the kids under her care right now, an easy smile on her face as she saw that none had gotten worse since she had seen them last. which was always a relief. after they were all set up with their own things to do, with a few visitors here and there, she made her way back to the desk, setting a couple files down before grabbing a spare bit of paper and tearing off a small part, writing down a small message and stuffing it in her pocket. lena made her way back to the playroom, and found herself leaning against the door for a moment.

“come on sarah, say goodbye now cause i won’t be back till wednesday.” rob cheered on the girl for her to give him one last hug before he really had to go, and just as that was done, the silhouette of lena leaning against the door came to be a shock for his to say the least. “didn’t expect to catch you before leaving,” he admitted as he stood by her just for a second or two, “but i’m glad i did. see you on wednesday, hopefully!” rob exclaimed, eventually making his way out of the area with the rest of the visitors.

“i’m sure you will, it was nice meeting you too rob.” lena spoke with a smile, as she slowly backed out of the room before turning on her heel and returning to her work. slowly, and it was slow as lena always took her time with each kid, she checked vitals and everything she needed to do professionally as she shared stories and noted down any issues.

as soon as lena left the playroom, rob must have looked notably dejected as sarah was quick to question this precisely. “is nurse lena your girlfriend?” the kid asked, making the man chuckle at the thought. ah, if it only were that simple to woo anyone. “i wish.” he answered her, leaving the conversation there as he put the girl back down and got to finish packing his books in a matter of minutes, knowing visiting hours were to be over soon and he’d have to leave.
