Friendly reminder that the baymax model was likely intended for mass-production, so it's totally feasible to leave 50 in a room and let them run out of battery.
This is one hell of a text wall detailing what I know, and what i have wildly guessed about Rung. This requires a certain amount of enthusiasm to read.
The basics
What the fuck is powering Rung:
- We've got at least one .1%-er on board, a mech whose name actually means soul, and yet the sparkeater knows exactly who it wants for lunch.
- Luna-1. I think we can all accept that Rodimus was not the father. He went back later without Rung and bugger-all happened.
- Rung is in 'amazing shape', though this might be down to 'having a knack for staying out of trouble'. I think he's been proven to be lying.
How damn old Rung is (and also some crap about Cyclonus):
-Serial code 100,000,000. Rung must be really massively old or something else isn't right.
- Born in the Pious Pools. Sounds like a site of religious importance and is used in exclamation as if it is one. During the bit with the metrotitan's brain, shortly after Cyc's creation storytime, Rewind is seen projecting a map on the skull interior. It features the Warrior's gate (Primus was just mentioned to be a warrior god and the thing looks like a spacebridge) and a signpost to the Pious Pools that are implied to be adjacent. Cyclonus is clearly taken back by this, and it's hard to get a reaction out of old Cyc.
Footnote: Cyclonus is a member of the Clavis Aurea ('Golden Key') religious order. Remember 'Cyclonus is key?', that might be more literal than anticipated. They are opposed to replacing non-essential anatomy. More on this under heading 'Dildo? Dildo.'
- Rung was building a model of the Lost Light (assumedly than called U-1) in the beginning of Shadowplay. This was 4 million years before the launch of the lost light, What did that ship do to warrant immortalisation in airfix? How did Rung come to know about it? OK I GET IT NOW
- 'I mean, ubiquitous isn’t the half of it – I once cross-checked his face against my database and it nearly fried my neocortex. Billions of matches. He’s like a historical constant – an observer, but never an active participant.'
Rewind makes sociotemporal maps as a hobby. It looks like Rung is both a sociotemporal and an actual hotspot as he appears in the background of many historically important vents as an observer (as far as we know.) If you look really closely at Megatron's 'denunciation' of the decepticon cause, you can see Rung in the crowd, right next to his face.
Dildo? Dildo. (what the holy hell is that altmode):
- Clavis Aurea? Yeah.
- I'd like to think that Rung's alt does not have a purpose, he is who and what he is and there's no need for anything more than that. Every piece of evidence presented here says otherwise.
- Mode fidelity. Rung has not replaced or changed anything in ever. This may be because he's needed just the way he is and the alt is super-important.
- Nightbeat was seen (not sure when, CD was in the same scene) discussing the three great mysteries. We were told what two of them were (Ark-1 and Luna-1 AND SUDDEN BRAINWAVE U-1?? OHHHHHHHH) and that they were solved. The third mystery was not mentioned. Nightbeat was deeply pondering a 3D render of what is bloody obviously Rung's altmode.
- I'm gonna need to see what miniminimus turns into, and how non-nonsensical that is. Theory #6 is that Rung's alt is just for plugging into a metrotitan so he can wear a city like a suit. He's already got the hotspot, the love of ships and the massive ancientitude.
Oh I nearly forgot:
- As for as I have been bothered to count (which is about volumes 1-6, discounting prose and people intentionally getting it wrong) this is the score :
COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT BRAINWAVE: G-9. HELP TOOK THREE YEARS, TWO MONTHS AND 10 DAYS. 3210. VERY CLEVER.
Correct uses of Rung in Rung's conscious presence vs absence or unconscious presence: 60% It's worth noting that instances of people getting it wrong are concentrated in the earlier story, and people seem to try to avoid using his name (or an approximation of it) completely. People have no problem using his name while he's unconscious.
- “From now on, it’s Ring – I mean Rang. It is Rang isn’t it? Rang as in bell?” “... It’s Rung. Forever.” What the holy hell does this mean. We have the multiple tenses of the chiming of a bell. Forever?? Rung as is doesn't ring-a-bell any more???
Misc:
- 'Garrus-9 changed everything, for you and for me.' Am I missing something? Also Rung really doesn't want to talk about him fighting, even though Dark Cybertron proved he had 'sparred' in the past and was really quite good with his silly little bappy stick.
- 'He's got this field recording of a really ancient conversion sequence. It's insane - it lasts about 10 minutes.' I'm waiting for a way to decode this. I'm assuming metrotitan. When the placement of a single text box can give away a major plot point I'm not going to let this one slip away.
- I'm pretty sure the electric guitar in his ship collection is that guitar spaceship from that Daft Punk video.
- Apparently Rungian re-experience therapy was a thing in Tailgate’s day. (All 14 of them.)
- “... I’ve learned to forgive anything.” ????
- Has committed a Category A crime.
- Got major déjà-vu after seeing the Luna-1 portal. This one worries me. It strongly echoes the portal Ark-1 went through. Also déjà-vu is the thing that happens when your memories are being read.
- Froid was a rival practitioner (and also an asshole). He is now dead. Long dead. But not before inflicting irreparable damage to Rung’s reputation.
- Rung has at least 1 box of the energon equivalent of candy cigarettes. Actually he does a lot of snacking. Also he can tell c-30-whatever-it-was by taste and that's worrying.
- Rung is made very uncomfortable by the harvesting of hotspot sparks. “Are you going to save them all, or just the green – “ He might just be moral.
- Some measure of anguish/self-reproach prevents him from using the cyberutopia portal. Since this is Aequitas that could be damn well anything.
- “I don’t know what I turn into, is the simple answer. No one does.” I have an idea. I have hundreds.
- “I think Drift’s right, in a way. This has never been about the knights. It’s about us. You, me... all of us. I think That’s why I’m here.” WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU PRECIOUS NERD?? You're gonna be the death of me.
