Found this oddball in the middle of a box of 300 hex jars. I think I'll take it as a hint! #cheers #oneofthesethingsisnotliketheother
I've been doing some research into our home's past, since it was built in 1875 and we never even met our grantor (the former owners). It's been a really fascinating search, and I've learned a lot. It was built by a young couple named George and Ann Allen, who bought the land from a guy named Walter, who bought it from Abraham in 1868. George and Ann lived here for just under 30 years before selling it. It traded hands a couple more times before being purchased by the Rohan family, who lived here and occupied the entire area atop Dutchess Hill for 70 years. They called it "Rohancrest." The last of the Rohans, Peter and Phebe, passed it on to their son who sold it to Sidney, from Brooklyn. That was in 1971. It passed hands of couple more times before landing in ours. The vast majority of these records were not computerized – I had to look them up in handwritten deeds dating back from around when Lincoln was president. (One cool thing I kept running across in my deed searches was the name Roosevelt. They lived in Hyde Park the whole time our house was here and even had a cottage not even 1/4 mile away. Pretty cool.) The deed books look like this- about as big as I can carry comfortably and just written one after the other, referencing the land borders with trees and steel posts and rocks. Not once did they throw me a bone and just list the address! (Probably because it didn't have one yet.) Our next stop will be the historical society, where hopefully we'll be able to dig up something juicer than deeds and maps. So far so good, though! Cheers to Rohancrest.
Pretty excited that I just discovered this sweet little coffee shop/bakery in #HydeParkNY, not 5 mins from home :) #CranberrysCafe

Broke away from work the other night to go to a food swap up in Hudson :) I traded my bacon jam for savory shortbread, cured salmon, raspberry jam, sweet pickles, ginger marmalade, mint & basil simple syrup, fig jam, apple maple preserves, truffles, and almond butter. All handmade. All amazing.
Spiced nuts! Buy your favorite salted nut, then just add garlic dust, to taste. The flavor I s SO much more interesting & yummy than just plain old salt. I also like to add finely ground white pepper.
Trying my hand at multigrain bread!
