The Ergon Carousel.
Thank you to all that made this last weekend happen. The Ergon Carousel is now dead. 2007 - 2011.
Our second to last gig tonight. Leeds friends come out and party fast with us for the last time. Free show, lots of merch bundles and booze.
Spread the word, this is important:
” 1 in 12 club members, drinkers and supporters, the club is under serious, imminent threat of closure due to fire regulations. Dedicated volunteers have been doing masses of great work to answer the demands that’re being laid on us in the short time...
SPREAD THIS AROUND. The 1 In 12 has been an important part in the musical history of our current and past musical exploits ( Narcosis, Beecher, Mechagodzilla, Red Right Hand, Underclass, The Devils ) and a cornerstone of DIY music not just in the North but as a venue/squat/hang out for any touring band that happens to be passing. Spread the word about this. Its a hugely important piece of British musics underground history.
Our final 2 gigs.
One our last gigs. Free show, good tunes.
Ergon mixtape, free download.
So, a while back, we got asked to compile a mixtape for Platform Magazine. The mix would be a selection of bands we rated in the grind/hardcore sphere. Sadly, we don't really listen to that much grind and it would have ended up being half Discordance Axis, half Arsedestroyer. So we decided to do a mix with a selection of tracks that, between the 5 of us, influenced our musical path. Bands and songs that defined our styles and attitudes I suppose. Obviously it was not what they wanted and never got published.
Anyway, here it is. Its quite an eclectic mix. I won't put the tracklist up, its included inside the zipped folder, just stumble your way through it.

Listen to the Drainland/Trenches split lp in full
drainland:
Brooklyn Vegan are now streaming the Drainland/Trenches split lp in its’ entirety on their site. Band copies arrive this week and will be avaible from us and a handful of shops/distros locally by the weekend.
2 mighty fine bands. Drainland especially are worth investigating for fans of noisy and dark guitar noise.
Footage from our gig at The Temple Of Boom in Stourbridge some time ago. A crazy. sweaty gig.
Another sweet review
From the kind folk over at I Heart AU....
"With an undeniable track record behind them, The Ergon Carousel, made up entirely of UK grind veterans from the groups Narcosis, Carmen and Beecher, are set to pick up where former labelmates, the tragically deceased Throats, left off in terms of sheer seething rage and doom-inflected hopelessness, with a record Holy Roar claims is the fastest ever laid down. That may be bragging, but the argument is convincing. Production goes out the window as cymbals flap and snares go off like machine-gun fire, while the snaking, jagged riffery leads its tracks along the sonic tumult and rhythm-section madness. Track-by-track analysis be damned – this is a cataclysm and it demands your attention for its entirety. Utterly unhinged". Mike McGrath-Bryan
RIP Kevin Mahony. A lot of us wouldn't be doing what we do if it wasn't for Siege.
This will be our next gig. October is dead, November picks it up again.

The Ergon Carousel - Dead Banks
9/10
The Ergon Carousel are the most exciting British band i have heard since the likes of Gallows and Rolo Tomassi.
I first heard of this band through a split they put out not too long ago with a band called Throats (RIP) which was a Kyuss cover. That one song, although only a cover, was more than enough convincing for me to look further. Dead Banks is without a doubt the best mercilessly heavy album of the year and i dare you to find another that comes close to rivaling this. Clocking in at just under 20 minutes, this 17 song collection packs more than enough punch to justify its length. the opening track “Broken Mirrors” wastes no time in showing what they are all about with intense screaming and instrumentation from start to end. The second track, “Entry Level Depressant” is an instant high point of the album. It may only be slightly longer than the opening track but it feels much more fleshed out and accessable for people who maybe arent looking for Grindcore at break neck speeds and would be the place to start for people who arent necessarily into albums as a whole body of work. The album continues to impress with the next 6 songs, many of them reaching slightly longer lengths with consistant intensity. The guitar playing is another high point. With riffs similar to those of Daughters and Discordance Axis, the guitarists manage to create bodies of work that is technical without feeling pointless and is fast while retaining a sense of identity and memorability, leaving every song sounding very much like a song rather than half a minute of random noise. I believe this should be praised as too many bands lose sight of creating something genuinely fresh and interesting and end up making something very unsettling to listen to and not in a good way.
The title track “Dead Banks” is a big moment for this album clocking in at just about 3 minutes. It breaks up the two halves nicely by combining the ferrocious speed and riffs with more melodic parts making this probably the most interesting song. the best thing about this band is that the vocals never feel out of place and are delivered perfectly, this song being a perfect example, and although they are agressive and hard to understand at times they are really enjoyable and dont end up becoming monotonous.
The album presses on in the same vein as the first half, not letting up for a second. The songs remain very varied and interesting, “Survived By None” being the best in my opinion, yet again showing just how excellent the guitar playing is on this album. The last song “An Illustration Of Fear And Loathing” gives Dead Banks a send off just as heavy as it came it with what should be the deffinition of an abrupt ending. this album just radiates positives, the main one being that it just flows so well through all 20 minutes, making it impossible to turn off. There is pretty much nothing to fault with this album, its length is perfect and although that may put some people off i dont think it needs to be any longer. My only small problem with the album is that in some tracks the vocals lack clarity, so until the LP is delivered next week (hopefully containing a lyric sheet/booklet of sorts) i cant really say anything regarding lyrics, but im sure that i will not be dissapointed. This is a great release for British music this year and my best advice would be dont sleep on getting this album. For fans of: Rolo Tomassi, Converge, Discordance Axis, Daughters (early stuff), Throats, Orchid, Dropdead
Subba Cultcha interview
Interview our Johnboy did for Subba Cultcha magazine.....
Alright, it might not be fastest album of all time, but it’s probably damn close. After a very limited demo a couple of years ago, The Ergon Carousel began crafting ‘Dead Banks’ – 17 tracks of harsh, despondent, warp-speed grindcore with some of the most mindbending killer riffs you’ll ever hear. Recorded, engineered and mixed to perfection by Jason Sanderson (Rolo Tomassi, Antares, Lavotchkin et al) – The Ergon Carousel have taken the murky filth of their demo ep and plunged it into a terrifyingly clear abyss of razor riffs, eternal blastbeats and gesticulations that sound like being smashed into the future at 1000000 miles an hour. There is of course just cause and reason that this band do not fuck about – three members did time in Narcosis (aka the last UK grindcore band, before The Ergon Carousel, worth bothering with…) whilst other members did time in the massively underrated Carmen and the recently reformed Beecher. UK pedigree. There really is not much else to say about this band. You will not see a more intense band live. You probably won’t comprehend them. There will inevitably be reviews that just call this a noise. We are safe and comfortable in the knowledge that this band are so good they make us laugh. Answered by Johnboy (guitar) How are you? Where does this Q&A find you? I’m fine thanks, you? I’m in a terraced house, In Wigan, Drunk. There are loads of dogs constantly barking at the back, a young lesbian couple having loud sex on one side and arguments on the other. There is lots of children at the front shouting, playing and swearing. Welcome to the North West. How did the recording sessions for your latest release go? Did you achieve all you’d planned to? Yeah, Superb, Great. Personally it was the most comfortable environment I’ve ever been in for a recording. The mighty Jason Sanderson recorded it. I just felt I had a very good mix of what I needed to hear when we were recording the songs. And he is a good man. Very hospitable. Happy with the way he recorded and mixed the guitars to. What goals did you set yourself before you started recording? Did you do anything differently this time, on purpose? If so, why? No goals as such just our all time constant goal of making sure we get the moment right for each song. If it isn’t intense or Tight or fast enough one of us will usually pipe up about it and push that couple of tenths or so harder to get it FASTER Or more aggro.K.E.R.S And D.R.S Are deffo allowed at any time. It’s definitely for me a behavioural issue. But then I do get very passionate about anything I record or write. What do you feel are your own limitations when it comes to creating/writing music? So far I have not had any, it seems that if I get an idea in my head or if I wake up with an idea going over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over all through the day, as long as I have some like minded people to jam with, the ideas have always come out how I wanted them. And more. What do you consider to be your best 3 songs, and tell us the inspiration behind them? My God, Who wrote these Questions Eddie Thomas? Haha. I can’t really answer that, but I will.....? Even though it would mean nothing to the person who next listens to the songs. As long as one person likes anything I write I’m Happy as a pig in the proverbial. But now as you have twisted my arm I do really like Blind summit, Broken Mirrors and Human Rail. I wrote all 3 you see! Ha-ha. All the others are Supergood Superfast though, 186,000 miles per second. But you get to that later. The Inspiration from me I suppose is something I can’t explain. You can really pour tons of aggression into an instrument or vocal Performance and that to me feels good. ADHD Grind ! As musicians we all do other things to, different styles and Other bands that are not just 100000000000 miles an hour for 83% of it hahahaha ! What do you love and what do you hate about life on the road? Tell us your funniest tour experience yet? I enjoy playing to people who have no idea about anything. C'mon let’s be honest here, the majority of people you meet not just at gigs but everywhere are living a total lie. I believe in honesty and doing what comes out of the mind and soul and not trying to please. Not trying to be someone. Just being yourself. But then the joy from someone shouting "Dickhead" at me makes me into it more. I start to think that nothing, not even light can escape. That extra tenth or so comes from the show. We all have an obsession with PACE. Well I hope we all do. Tell us your funniest tour experience yet? We told everyone I was dead. I had my folks and girlfriend ringing me up in panic. I have also drunk band members piss and lots of other Assorted scallywag behaviour.......... How would you describe your own/bands sound, or what do you hate being labelled as? People can label us what they want to, we don’t mind or care. We are just having fun and going Very, Very fast !! Who is currently moving you musically at the moment? New stuff? Not much. I'm listening to Mandrill, Graham Bond and Mountain allot at the moment. What album changed your life and why? I’ve never had an album change my LIFE? Ha-ha! If you could erase one single/album from history (your own or someone else's) which would it be and why? There are Lots of sleeping people. Lots of annoying Jo Whiley Radio one bullshit,U2 Albums. Dunno? A rumour you'd like to start about yourself, or one you'd like stopped? Haha, there is enough around. Keep 'em coming. Oh and Destroy the universe. The revolution comes, who would you like to be first against the wall (and if you're feeling particularly bitchy, a second, third, fourth and so on...)? Jo Whiley, Paul David Hewson.Me. Best piece of advice you'd give to aspiring musicians, or the best piece of advice you were given when you started? I can’t change anything; it’s the hardest thing in the world to change yourself, Never mind gods good. He sends these things to try us. We have not much money but we do see life. Play from within. Don't take everything too seriously. Have lots of fun. If you're in a car going at the speed of light, and someone turns the headlamps on, would they do anything? Einstein said it’s impossible to travel at the speed of light, speed of light is Constant and that nothing can go faster than this speed. He obviously hasn't Heard Ergon Haha ! We pull about 50 g in the jam room. Deadly, our drummer cut all his hair off to get them vital seconds. But yeah headlamps would come on. Quick ain't they! TOP 5 IPOD TUNES 1.GINGER BAKERS AIRFORCE - LET ME RIDE. 2. FELA ANIKULAPO KUTI - ZOMBIE. 3. SON HOUSE - SHETLAND PONY BLUES. 4. MANDRILL - HANG LOOSE. 5.
