“Why are you even here, Celeste? Just to bother me or what; because I can assure you, I’m thoroughly bothered.”

“I’m pretty good at it, not like you can notice. Too complex for your simple mind.” Rachel crossed her legs and folded her arms. “Let me know if you’re staying long, I’ll put headphones so I don’t have to listen to you.”

“Do you repeat what others say?” He rolled his eyes and stood facing her. “I’ve got mayhem to cause, so your poor ears will be alright for a little while longer.”

I was just wondering… Do you actually put any effort into being this annoying or does it just come off naturally?

“If I had to put effort into it it just wouldn’t be as much fun.”

“What do you think about? How your walk is gonna be? Deep stuff like worldwide peace?” Rachel followed him with her eyes from her seat, not buying one bit of it.

“Pretty deep stuff, far too complex for your simple mind.” She challenged his skills and he didn’t mind it, “Do you just stand around and attempt to be cool?”

“I’d say the same to you, but I don’t lie anymore” she replied. That was, in fact, a lie. “No, I just thought that you were lost because you were standing in the middle of the way doing nothing but breathing.”

“How kind.” He sat in one of the comfy chairs, relaxing a bit. “I like to pause and think before I walk into a room. Clears the mind.”

“Look who’s standing in my way this time” Rachel said to the guy in the doorway of the rec room. “Are you lost?”

Rogan rolled his eyes, “How lovely to see you again...” He walked through the doorway. “Lost? Are you confused? This is the rec room.”

“I was looking for someone, but whatever. I’ll do you a favor. This time.”

“I was ending it, not accepting it. A mood? I’ve been in a mood since I was born.”

Staring or not staring, which I was not doing. Why are you making such a big deal out of this?

“I got it, you weren’t staring. Honestly not a big deal at all. If that’s all, I’m busy.”

I didn’t actually walk all the way to your room, I was just passing by. And I’m not staring, you are not that important.

“Sure, right, of course. I’m pretty sure they call what you were doing, staring, important or not.”

I… Uh— Nothing, I was actually just leaving.

"So you walked all the way to my room to stare and then leave? Okay."

“A lot better. Not to me, sounds like if he was a cartoon if you call him mute little guy.”

[roganarchuleta]

“Whatever you say. But since you don’t seem to know him, you must be lost. Run along.”

Rachel ignored the first part. “Mute little guy?” she repeated, smiling. It amused her the way it had sounded, she didn’t know why. “That’s kinda rude, you know?”

“Okay, he doesn’t speak because he has a psychological problem and speaking only brings him an uncontrollable amount of anxiety and he’s 6 so he’s small; is that better? Mute little guy sounds a lot nicer to me.”

“I just… This is the longest I have gone without seeing my Mom and Dad… Usually they are with me when I am sick and need to get better. I wanna get better but.. I want to see my Mom and dad.” She was trying so hard to be brave, to be positive, but it was really hard.

Rogan frowned but hid it from the girl. “Why don’t you write them a letter and send them an art picture?” He offered the girl a smile, “I know it’s hard but you’ll get better and you’ll get to be with them all the time. They limit your communication with family to help you focus on getting better; you’ll hear from them.”

“Your roommate is not a 6 year old.” Is he? Rachel didn’t know if that was true, but she could tell he knew she’d lied. Therefore, he might have lied just to catch her.

“My roommate is a 6 year old...you must have the wrong room. Unless of course your friend is a mute little guy, then you’re in the right place.”

“Why? Do you need to leave?” Rachel asked him, not because she cared, but to bother him. “No, I actually was looking for your roommate” she lied. She was actually looking for someone else, but Rachel didn’t mind pretending to wait for his roommate only to stay there and not leave, like he wanted. “I can see he’s not here, but I can wait.”

“No, I just don’t like annoying people.” He rolled his eyes at her and knew she was lying. He could spot lies from a mile away, “So you’re waiting for a 6 year old?”

“What if I wanted to just stand here? Would that be a problem?”

“Seeing as you’re standing in my doorway, yeah, it would. Don’t you have anything better to do?”
