There were many presentations that I have witness, however the ones that stood out to me the most were on racial profiling and abortions. The presentation about racial profiling was the strongest to me, the presenter made a lot of great points and he really grabbed my attention and made me want to make a difference in regards to racial profiling. He talked about how he was racially profiled, and how someone made a rude comment due to stereotypes about muslims. This statement was relatable to me because I am half Haitian and everyone loves to make jokes and judge me based on my race. So due to the fact that I could relate and we shared common credibility I understood where he was coming from. People often do not realize how one's words can really affect you, because I also remembered him saying that after the comment was said he felt powerless because he could not have done anything about the situation. That in itself just wants me want to join his cause and makes a difference. Another presentation that I enjoyed and really persuaded me to change my position was the presentation about abortions. At first I was for abortions and thought that if a mother has the means and the will to have an abortion it should be her decision and not that of the law. However after listening to the speaker's presentation I completely changed my mind. The speaker made great points about different means of adoptions rather than simply ending a life regardless of if it it's fully considered a life or not yet. She brought insight to what I did not know and fully understand, when she was speaking on how even the doctors, who jobs it is to perform that action do not even support it. She also touched me when she said what if you were the one who was aborted and that is honestly something I never thought about. She changed my mind for the good and now I have the proper knowledge to go out and support her values. Also now I can say it is morally wrong to have an abortion; there are honestly many different alternatives. Both presentation touched home for me. One strengthen my belief about racial profiling and the other completely change my perception about abortions. All in all they were both great projects and I fully support them .

The topic we should talk about is "men deserves equality". We should talk about this because I feel it is relatable to many, being that I know so many people who was raised by only their mothers. Men do deserve equality up to an extent. Once they gain that equality they will feel needed, rather then giving a woman full power with the child and the pregnancy making men feel neglected. I believe if man had some say as to what goes on it would give them a better incentives to contribute to the upbringing of their child. Although that is only my opinion and I would love to hear what everyone else have to say in regards to that topic.

Which is better, sex or love? They are both Something we do,  we love, and is also an act we sometimes fear. We all grow up and automatically exercise love and sex. Us humans experiment with them and majority of us fail at one or the other or probably both ate the same time. Sex and love has been around way before human were on this earth but yet we end up toxifying  the meaning them with our opinions, beliefs,and labels. Heterosexuality and homosexuality should be teached in school, we are in the year 2017 if you still cringe at those words you have to grow up at this point we all mature. As well as, figuring out what is normal about these acts, because yes they are very normal.

“There are many reasons for this educational omission, including religious bias and other types of homophobia.” I abhor the fact that Brandon Ambrosino, the author of “Invention of ‘Heterosexuality’” stated this in his article. You shouldn’t just push aside something that was slowly becoming a problem in the world because of religious bias and homophobia. It’s best if the youth be exposed to this topic young, because humans have a history of becoming very inhumane when they come encounter to something they don’t understand. For example, back then they tried to control the people from even having sex. Now fast forward to now,  you can see that they failed. Exposing the youth to the topic of heterosexuality and homosexualilty would not make them magically make them know which gender they want to have sexual behaviors with at the end of the lesson. It will educate them, the human brain is fully developed at age 25. So never the less, it would take up to 25 years for an human to know what is right from wrong as well as, know exactly what they want.

“Researchers aren’t sure about what “causes” homosexuality, and they certainly reject any theories that posit a simple origin, such as a ‘gay gene.’” first of all Researchers? No, HUMANS, put a flaw in everything we seem to touch. At this point it’s clear that humans create destruction on unnecessary things, especially things they know the answer to but are way too in denial. You do not need researchers to know what “causes” homomsexuality are disire, love , and fear. It doesn’t come from a chromosome or a gene it isn’t from nature or nurture either. It’s all from growth and finding out what you like or don’t like. To add on on how destructive we humans can become,  Ambrosino stated, “But at a specific point on in time, humans attached meaning to these instincts. (Sexuality)” sex it’s an activity we act on with on another, animals been doing it way before we came. Animals have also been having same sex behavior. In other words to Ambrosino words,  once we have we slap a label on it and bash the meaning of it, as well as harm the people that can’t control what they grow up to love. Ambrosino mentioned “sexual desires shift throughout time.” I disagree, I believe that desire, love, and fear shifts everything in life. That is what many of us fail to understand about revolution and life.

I agree in some cases. We should have education on topics like this so that people can be informed. Also, sex should be a discussion to educate especially the youth on how to deal with sex or sexually feelings so this generation won’t be all over and to reduce health risk. I disagree with the whole toxify with beliefs. People live according to their religion. It’s not in the source of destroying the concept but see in it value in marriage. Also, some don’t believe it’s important but more like the icing on the cake. Just a different perspective on another side.

Both sex and love are indeed beautiful things and in some aspects in regards to the person they both go hand in hand. However I completely agree with what is being said. Humans have a tendency to destroy what is beautiful in twist it into a means of everything it was meant not to be. Animals have been having sex for years and there aren't any problems, nature takes its course and who are we to deny nature. We always need to justify something but can never accept something that doesn't need an answer. Due to sex and love in some circumstances going hand in hand when we destroy one we destroy the other

It is true that being put Ina a better situation you have a better chance to succeed based on the benefits of your opportunities. Whites and Asians do have better opportunities but so what. It does matter the circumstances of the schooling but what does not matter is not working hard and not giving up to gain something you want to achieve. You can not blame that on race and you can not blame that on not being given the proper opportunities. Those who are not given every opportunity as the next person should take advantage of anything that can better then and go out in the world and succeed. We should not use this as an excuse to be great rather use it as motivation to not being a statistic

Men Deserves Equality

           In our society today, we need more men to be in their child’s lives. To help grow and nurture, just like any woman would their child. So, why do women have the right to ban their baby’s father from the hospital room during childbirth? And why do they have the right to get an abortion without her spouse’s approval? A child’s birth is of high importance which signifies a bond of family. This is just as important to the mother as it is the father, but fathers don’t receive that equality. They are required to leave the room when instructed to by the mother and roam around until good news come.  

Frustration boils when men don’t receive equality under many circumstances whether in their child’s life, being convicted of rape, or abuse in a relationship. With that said, men go through the same situations women do, however, it is more likely for a man to be guilty of rape. Now, why is that? Does it sound more comforting that a woman has been raped by a man than a man being raped by a woman? Did society train our minds to believe that men are by nature sexual beings of mass destruction? According to Hanna Rosin, “men, as well as the woman, have experienced raped at an equivalent rate” (Men are Raped, 2014).

Although some men are abusive and therefore may not deserve the right to see their child’s birth (because they are unpredictable), there are still men out there that are good individuals. However, if a woman takes it upon herself to take advantage of her rights or to ban her baby’s father, then that is simply outrageous and unfair. Women may take advantage of this right because she and her spouse may have had an argument at an earlier time and decides to steal something as precious as his child’s birth from him, believing that it will hurt the father’s feeling and sense of manhood.

Some women may have intentions in which giving birth is easier for them if their spouse isn’t there. That way they can focus on the task at hand. Maybe the wife isn’t comfortable with him seeing her in the condition she is in. while others may say that it is the woman’s body, so all non-medical personnel should be asked to leave, if the mother requests it. In addition, being alone may even make her more relaxed that her family/spouse isn’t seeing her in pain or creating excitement.

At the end of the day, Men are needed and should be equally qualified to make decisions towards his child. Whether the couple is on the same page or not they both contributed to making the child and should still have that equality throughout the child’s life. In addition, men deserve as much knowledge about their child even if it’s the woman’s body and health. Nevertheless, whether the man had a troublesome background, him, as well as all others, need to know about their child.

I totally agree with your blog. Men should be part of their child’s life. Also even what you said “to help grown and nurture” which is one of the things I agree because the child can learn so much if they have their fathers with them including the mother. But I also like to point out when you said “why do women have the right to ban their baby’s father from the hospital room during childbirth” because there could be many reasons. One could be the doctors choice or the mother isn’t comfortable delivering the child front of the father. But yes, it isn’t fair at all and men should have the right to see them and be part of their child’s life to give them so much support.

But I disagree a little about a man having equally qualified decisions toward a child. Only because I think if a man wants to make a decision, then he should be 100 percent in your life to be deciding if he thinks yall should keep a baby or not. I agree with some of what you are saying but I can not say I agree with all. Yes men should have a say to what happens to the child prior to giving birth which includes an abortion, but not legally have a say. So their say should merely act as an opinion. I say that because, if you look at the amount of times a father has walked out from the responsibilities of raising a child and forcing the mother to play both roles, the numbers are always in favor of the women. That being said women should always have full control. However I do agree with the fact the fathers should take full responsibility for what they started and they should never walk out the life their child

                                                 Uniforms ?

        In every public, as well as private school, there is some form of formal or informal dress code stating what students can and cannot wear; however school uniforms are not universal. In many parts of the world, children who attend school are required to wear school uniforms. In the United States school uniforms were predominantly enforced by private and religious schools. However during the 1990’s many believed school uniforms would result in the solution to issues surrounding violence, drug use, and academic shortcomings associated with public schools. In this modern world, children have become much more concerned about their clothing rather than their performance in class. Everyone wants to fit in; everyone wants to be perceived as being cool. This may result in a decline in academic success. So the question is: Should public schools adopt a uniform policy? According to the National Center for Education nearly twenty percent of public schools require students to wear school uniforms. However those opposed to the ratification of school uniforms suggests it violates the First Amendment limiting them as a means to express themselves. Critics also believes wearing uniforms takes away a child's creativity, but this is not the case. School uniforms has indeed become a very controversial issue in the world of education. Although it is believed that the adoption of school uniforms should be applied to public schools.         Schools that have implemented school uniforms have been said to see an increase in the student's academic performance. Students that wear uniforms are more inclined to stay focus in the classroom, rather than worry about what others are wearing. Clothing is in fact, a great distraction. If everyone is wearing similar, if not the same clothing, students are more prompt to focus and pay attention. Also, if one is not so concern as to what he or she is wearing the next day, more time could be used in studying as well as completing assignments. The adoption of school uniforms affects a student's grades, behavior, and attendance resulting in an increase in academic success. According to International News ,“ In one study at Youngstown University, the researchers found that uniforms improved attendance and graduation rates while decreasing suspension rates” ( Greenwood paragraph 5). Decreasing suspension rates while increasing graduation rates is also a direct correlation with positive effects when implemented correctly. In addition to increasing graduation rates and decreasing suspension rates uniforms improve attendance. A number of students miss school, merely because they can not find something to wear. However, that entire issue is prevented with the implementation of school uniforms. Thus illustrating that, in more ways than one, uniforms are beneficial to a student's academic success.

                                    Blessing or a curse

       There are many traits that describe who i am. I am charismatic, easy going , intelligent and more but one trait that I truly believe defines me as a person is my honesty. Honesty is defined as the quality or act of being honest,  truthful, and sincere. However like many traits this one is a blessing and a curse.

            The ability to be honest is a trait everyone possess but fails to use, although some are simply liars, I refuse to be one. I’ve seen how failing to be honest has ruined many relationships; from friendships to partnerships leaving a trail of broken hearts. I make the best effort to be a good person and tell the truth, because that is what made me the man I am today. Even at instances where I should lie, and make it easier for me, I always catch myself and tell the truth. For example, as a basketball player I must show up to every single practice on time unless of an emergency. However there was one practice I showed up about half an hour late because I had went to get a haircut. Many believe that was a bad excuse to be late, and I would be punished for my tardiness. Although, when I came to practice and my coach asked why I was late I simply told him the truth and did not make up a story as some of the other guys would have done and as a result of that he respected the fact that I was honest and I did not have to suffer any consequences for being late. This example goes to show the benefits of being honest. Being that I looked beyond the consequences and told the truth, I further gained my coaches respect as a player as well as a man. This also inspired my teammates to tell the truth if something like that were to occur to them. Being honest also  makes me feel like an overall better person. Walking in the hallway a student I was unfamiliar with dropped 30 dollars on the floor. Any other person would've picked up the money and kept it for themselves however due to my honesty I simply could not. I chased the student down the hallway and returned his money. He was extremely happy to get his money back and was surprised to see there were a few honest people still out there. I had a clear conscience that I was not a thief and I was honest enough to give him his money back. In a long run this is a very positive trait, as they say,  honesty is the best policy.

            Although I am an extremely honest person, there are times where my honesty can be misunderstood. Often times my friend ask for my opinion on a situation or even an outfit or a new look. They usually come to me for my honest opinion . However due to my honesty I may not always agree with them. My friend was trying out a new style and I told her I don't think it looks right on her, and she should try something different. She asked for my honest opinion, and I have it to her however she took it as I was calling her ugly and was offended. This just go to show if you are not clear and use correct diction your honesty could be a problem. Now looking back at it I could have said it a different way where my honesty would not have been misunderstood as being mean. Another aspect of where being honest can be a issue is that in some cases not everyone wants to hear the truth or can handle the truth. I saw my cousin boyfriend cheating on her, and when she asked me about it I did not want to be the one to tell her but I had to. She could not handle the truth and bursted into tears. I could have always lied and she could have found out from someone else but it not my nature to lie. It felt like by telling her I contributed to her heartbreak. However later on she thanked me for being honest and telling her what happened. At the end of the day being honest is the way to go.

          Telling the truth and being honest is a trait that defines me as person. There is not only positive aspects when in being honest but they are also some negatives. However in the long run being that one is honest it always makes you feel better about yourself and allows for a clear conscience. When in doubt tell the truth.

IS IT A BIRD...IS IT A PLANE...ITS SUPERMAN

It was a regular Saturday morning, the sun was shining and birds were chirping. At the end of every annual Vacation Bible School, the people who attended would always gather together and go to Splish Splash. We all hopped on the bus ready to have a great day full of laughter and joy. When we arrive to Splish Splash my group, which consisted of two of my cousins and a couple of other friends were all very excited and cannot wait to go on every single ride. Looking around you could see the look of terror and excitement on everyone’s faces. So after much thought and debates on which ride to go on first, we all decided to go to the wave pool. The wave pool seem like a good start to get everyone wet and ready for the rest of the day. While in the wave pool everyone is swimming and having a good time, but I always kept an eye on my younger cousin who was not supposed to go to the deep end of the pool. The bell rings and the waves begin. The look of content on everyone’s faces was priceless; but as I look in the corner of my eye, I noticed my cousin in the deep end struggling to get above the waves. The life guard saw him struggling and then instructed him to stay away from the deep end. As we all continue having fun, I lost sight of my cousin, but this time I could not see him at all. I look towards the lifeguard and he’s aiding someone else. In a panic I see the top of his head as he is gasping for air, kicking his feet and his arms. I quickly swim over to his rescue. As he is swallowing the water from the pool while trying to breath I grab him by the arm and throw him on my back. While on my back, he is vomiting the water he had swallowed as he is still in shock I swam him to safety. Once out the pool he catches his breath and looks at me with eyes of gratefulness and respect and simply says , “thank you, you saved my life ”. I did not even perceive it like that I just wanted to help my family. However looking back at that day; how many people could say they saved a life
