Look at that: Miss Janeās chattinā with that āandsome lamplighter - looks as though heās lit āer up as well, donāt it? Not that anythināll ever come of it - she says that ship has sailed. And I say there are always other ships.
The reason I am so irreverent about history and historical figures is because I know they were only human. They laughed at jokes about genitals when they spent a night at the theatre, they swore at minor inconveniences, they dealt with fleas and lice in their wigs, they had their foul teeth removed, they piled on powder and make-up, they tried to make their fancy and delicate clothing more comfortable, they cared deeply about how people felt about them and then on the other hand, didnāt care at allā¦sure, some of them lived in grand houses and adhered to strange, nuanced codes of conduct but they lived and they breathed and they felt. They ached for the same things I ache for, they laughed at the same things I laugh at. The only major difference between me and a girl of my age living in, for example, England in 1710 is simply time and situation. Open her up, and at her core, sheād have all the same emotions, fears and hopes I have.
Of course, there are events in history that require reverence and a different kind of approach and we should act accordingly. But I feel absolutely no shame about characterising historical figures, no matter monarch, aristocrat, servant or pauper, as what they were, which was human. Itās a disservice to simper at their feet, make them grander than they were and shy away from the nitty gritty.

Eliza Hamiltonās wedding ring.
As you can see, the ring consists of two bands that merge together and can be pulled apart revealing an engraving on each band. The first one says āElizabethā and the second āAlexanderā but it could have just said ātogether foreverā and the meaning would have been the same. If any future partner of mine doesnāt buy me a ring that looks exactly like this I will not marry them. Or rather I will give them a ring that looks exactly like this, because this is the most romantic gesture I have ever seen. Boy goes and commission a wedding ring with so much symbolic meaning that itās hard to look at it without getting tearful, I justā¦. wow. How can you beat this? You canāt.
what a gem

my dad thinks maria reynolds was the evil one in the affair help me explain that she wasn't please?
Maria Reynolds was most definitely not the evil one in the affair.Ā
Maria Reynolds was a victim of abuse by her husband James Reynolds who was basically her pimp. She came to Alexander Hamilton because her husband had left her poor and in destitute. She asked Hamilton for financial assistance. Hamilton agreed to help her but he took advantage of the situation. Their affair continued for some time, even after Maria broke the news that her husband had returned. She warned him in a letter than her husband was a violent man, and when he found out he blackmailed Hamilton. Hamilton could of stopped the affair, but he did not.Ā
Even after the affair had stopped it resurfaced several years later and Maria by this time had divorced James. The Reynolds pamphlet. It was basically as ninety-five page pamphlet in which he painted a picture of Maria being an evil seductress and himself a poor defenseless man. May I remind you that he had several children at the time and was married, and his wife was giving birth at the same time he was writing this pamphlet. He was the one who took advantage of Maria and he was the one who fucked himself over.Ā
After the Reynolds pamphlet was published, Maria Reynolds was forced to leave Philadelphia and was publicly scorned. She also had to change her last name to conceal her identity. Maria Reynolds is a victim.Ā
