i know i disappear a lot. this time it’s probably for good, but it’s very bittersweet. i started self publishing novels. my 8th is coming out next month. :’) one of my books is doing really well and has hundreds of goodreads reviews. that takes up most of my creative energy.

i wouldn’t have been able to do any of this if it didn’t start here, with roleplay. i rped long before indie, but indie is where i really found my footing and voice.

SLATER DOES HAVE TO SMOTHER A LAUGH AT THAT, amused but unwilling to show it to rosa of all people . the joke was funny, and frankly, more their humor than not . slater mentally writes it off as a fluke . " i'm sure the pr team that raised you is very proud ." slater replies evenly, their head bobbing in a nod . it's not long after that that slater's expression is twisting in distaste though, their gaze on rosa at her case for her parents and, "i'm not saying that they can't have good qualities, i'm saying that they're assholes ." slater's brow raises . "and for the record, mine are also assholes . unless you want to make the same case for my folks, cruz ? wanna humanize them for me ?" parental loyalty was a concept slater struggled with . even when it came down to people with perfect parents slater tended to find the concept hard to wrestle with . after all, blood might be thicker than water, but at the end of the day, what the fuck does viscosity really have to do with anything ? slater shrugs at rosa's defence, humming as they loftily say, "whatever helps you sleep at night ." rosa's reaction to the met gala makes slater's lips twitch in amusement, their eyes crinkling as they roll their eyes even as they say, " calm down, i'm not going to say anything . i'm not a narc . i'm just saying ." they shrug and look back to rosa to ask . " have you got secrets with a lot of strangers ?"

it's no surprise that rosa was raised by hired help as much as she was her own family. it isn't quite as disastrous as some other families: her parents were as present as they could be. there are even pictures of she and her mother on tour with her father when she was just a toddler. still, slater's words feel more like fact than a dig, merely rolling her eyes in response. in spite of it all rosa's own parents might never be proud of her, considering how different her goals are from theirs. they crave fame and for her to follow in their footsteps, but rosa wants to make art. "takes one to know one, i guess..." a terrible comeback, but it's another thing rosa considers to be more factual than not. "i have nothing good to say about any member of your family, sadly. you'll have to work out that one on your own." and slater is included in that, of course. she focuses on the glass in her hand, only sparing them a quick glance from the corner of her eye. "i never said you were a stranger. there's a...fine line you and i rest on." something that she can never really define. "but if you keep viewing me as the version of me that you know, our working together is going to be unbearable."
