Happy Birthday, Enma!!

Today is 16th June, which means, it's the birthday of Enma Kozato, the 10th Boss of Simon Famiglia from Katekyo Hitman Reborn! series!!

I am really satisfied and much more confident with how this art turned out. It was worth fully focusing all those three hours drawing this piece. Compared to my previous Mukuro birthday art, I believe I've improved a lot.

I really itchy to write a next generation of KHR just to shove a bunch of Tokugawa shogun name in this fandom.

Tsuna gonna has two boy Yoshinobu and Hidetada and they gonna goes by 40 (Yo-no) and 13 (Hi-da). I know if our boy become the Decimo/Neo Primo he gonna be in Italy but the tradition of naming after shogun is so nice why everyone prefer he had Ciel, Cielo and whole bunch of other name as his son?

Edit: And the whole "Tsuna has a siblings" too I mean come on why 70% of them has to be Ieyasu did Giotto already claim that?

Back to say in the end (2023) I choose them the name of Ienobu and Hidetada. Well it is because in Tokugawa lineage the son with the name “Ie” was tend to be the oldest son. So Tsuna has twins son with Ienobu (shorthand as 10 with “I” as 1 and “no” as 0) as the big brother and Hidetada (same old 13) as the younger brother. (They are born 15 minutes apart, but Ienobu was born on 23:49 pm of 26/10 and Hidetada was born on 00:04 of 27/10 so technically they are not born on the same days)

They are sons of Tsuna and Kyoko and both looks like Kyoko, Hide has shorter hair while Nobu has longer hair tied up.

Very short and brief summary: Both twins are raised in Italy until 10 years old. At age 10, one night, Tsuna took Hide to the hospital, while Kyoko and Nobu stayed home and were attacked. Kyoko was shot while shielding Nobu and was in coma after that.

After that incident, Tsuna was forced to take Hide to Namimori to keep him safe instead of leaving him in Italy. Nobu was also intentionally decided to be brought to Namimori as well, but after psychotherapy sessions with CEDEF it is concluded that he would be better to stay in CEDEF so now Hide is in Namimori while Nobu is staying at CEDEF.

Anyways, seeing his mother being shot, the feeling of fear and helplessness made Nobu crave the strength to protect his family, and thus he wants to be the next 11th Vongola boss to have the strength to protect his loved one. Meanwhile, being left suddenly in a faraway place without knowing anything about his brother or mother made Hide feel abandoned, together seeing with Vongola taking his father away as well, he ends up resenting Vongola and wants to destroy Vongola to take back his loved one from mafi that represented by Vongola.

(As for Tsuna, he couldn’t tell his children anything and had to keep them far away because Vongola suspected there was a spy that leaked the information about his hidden house which leads to his wife and son being attacked. If his personal location was exposed, it meant the leak was deep within the organization. He didn’t dare risk dragging his kids into it, so he chose to stay silent.)

The reason I chose to write twins for the eleventh generation was simple: I wanted to challenge Tsuna. This is a challenge not only to him, but also to his once-defiant declaration, “I will destroy Vongola.”

So I put on the table two sons.

Ienobu is gentle and kind, while Hidetada is fiery and unyielding. The first one dreams of becoming the Eleventh Vongola Boss, while the other longs to see Vongola reduced to ashes. One recoils from the sins of the mafia world, while the other does not hesitate to stain his hands with blood. The gentle child despises the mafia, yet aspires to lead it; the fierce child is willing to embrace darkness if it means tearing it down. The two stand in contrast like the sky at noon and the sky at midnight, one radiant and consuming, the other still and quite.

Yet their flames are born of the same origin, for both burn for the sake of someone they wish to protect. Every choice they make, every ideal they hold, is rooted in the same ideal “I want to protect my loved one”. Just that the elder seeks power to shield his family, while the younger seeks destruction to remove them from harm.

Two of them are representation of Tsuna.

Who were once a child throwing punches as though in prayer, who feared and loathed the mafia more than anyone else, and yet fought more fiercely than anyone to protect his family. So what would that child, now the Neo Vongola Primo, think upon seeing these two before him, each carrying a fragment of his ideals, neither willing to yield, both certain in their own truth?

What does he feel toward the Vongola he once sought to destroy, now that he must rely on its power to protect those he loves? Now that he stands too deeply entangled in that world, needing its strength not only for others, but also for himself as the Neo Vongola Primo? In a reality where power is no longer a choice but a necessity, overwhelming and inescapable, do the words he once spoke during the Ring Trial still hold meaning?

Through these twins, through their opposing ideals and divergent dreams born from the same root, I present Sawada Tsunayoshi with his trial. How will he answer them, and what path will he choose? Will he stand with one kid, or will he find a way to embrace them both?

My rambling is technically my intention of writing so it is more like I put it out to remind myself.

Is me being weird or the world because just because a story has a tag of shounen readers expects all characters to be fighter or actually fight or so on then deem a character useless/not worthy/treated badly because they are not done in the way of badass beam shooting?

Tl, dr: KHR would be very rich land to dig up generational pressure, burden of legacy and family trauma.

Anyways, onto the point of parents/adults in KHR and chilren.

First and foremost: yes, it is adults’ responsibility to protect kids. Totally agree.

Ironically, HOWEVER.

The thing about adults’ protection in general (this can be apply to any environment, not just mafia) is that it would come down to this one fatal flaw: They think they know best.

In KHR it spreads to many, many other flaw but really all flaws of adults here roots in the same way, they think they know best and what they do is right.

And in KHR there are two other flaws that specifically in the mafia setting: 1) some too value of legacy and 2) they are mafia by core, so as a results, their kind spirit also is hence shaped by their life until it is like a flickering flame itself and thus only can be spent to light a very small number of people that they care about.

In some ways, no you can’t say “the adults do not protect the kids”. The adults here protect the kids a lot. HOWEVER, 1) their definition of protection is their own version of thinking “what is the best protection” and they do not care if that aligns with what the kids want; 2) they only do protecrion to a very limited target. Iemitsu protects Tsuna by not letting him know anything about his job, and with the Flood of Blood incident as well as Enma’s family as the parallel, Tsuna growing up very peacefully is considered his success. Nono protects Tsuna by telling Dino to test Gokudera and ready to eliminate him in cases he fails the test, rising from the worry Gokudera is too wild animal that can hurt Tsuna back. Iemitsu protects Tsuna by making a deal with Mukuro so Tsuna has enough guardians for the Ring Battle. Lavinia protects Gokudera by not telling him the truth about her so he will never got too heartbroken by her about to pass away.

The adults here do protect the kids but they do not care if the kids want that kind of protection or not, because adults think they know best. And their heart is only limited to a very specific target, not encompassing all of them. Which is why this both opposite statements stand, as the adults protect the kids but also at the same time, harms the kids. Because some kids are simply not on their radar of protection. Iemitsu doesn't care for Lambo and others when making them as Tsuna's guardians. Nono doesn't care for Gokudera when testing him to make sure Tsuna is safe. And so on.

So far, we do not have any proofs to say that they are wrong. Tsuna grows up peacefully with his mother until he can’t. Tsuna has a strong guardian that later be one of his strongest friends and ally. Gokudera also grows up peacefully despite being a literal bastard until he misheard the truth. So far, all the protection here has a succesful outcome as intended purpose.

So far, we also have many proofs to say the adults make thing terribe. Tsuna grows up peacefully at the cost of him doesn’t have any preparation for the bomb dropped at his head, having no one reliable to talk as he has a big case of miscommunication with his dad, which add another factor in why he grows up to be such a kluzt. He has a strong guardian but at the same time he will not need a guardian if in the beginning he doesn’t get thrushed into all this mafia mess. And in the end Gokudera grows up not knowing the fact that he got loved so much, and now the period when he is a street kid, being rejected multiple times and so alone will never be erased.

We can’t even say “If the adults do it different, thing can be better”. Who gonna guarantee if Iemitsu tells his family about his job, they will not end up being killed as his subordinates in Flood of Blood, Enma’s family, Nono’s three sons, and many other family got involved in mafia in general of KHR world? Who will make sure Tsuna would not protect against having Mukuro being his guardian if Iemitsu tells him about it first time? And we never know if it would be better if Gokudera knows the truth about his identity as a bastard and his true mother only has a few months or days to die.

We can’t even tell adult Tsuna to “do it different” because if he does not toss teens and kids into battlefield by kidnapping them, world would doom and all would die.

And well, finally, the legacy. Which is why this is funny to me because to me (and I say with proof) so many adults do terrible thing just for the continue of legacy. Nono wants to continue Vongola so he turns to Tsuna as the last resort without caring if he wants it or not (and even when Tsuna rejects it, he shrugs “It’s fine” then process to tell Tsuna “If you don’t want to be Decimo, how about Neo Primo as title?” which basically just boss title makeover). Iemitsu wants to keep Tsuna away from mafia, yet eventually submits to the legacy and pass the agree that Tsuna will be a candidate for Vongola boss title. This is such an endless suffering of cycle because as long as they belong to a “family”, it is eventually will become their fate to find themselves chain to the responsibility of continuing it. Tsuna hates mafia with passion, and he even says he wants to destroy Vongola. But, as the Future arc shows us, even though it is only a possibility of what Tsuna can become, it shows us very well that in order to keep Vongola standing (which has now become his family) Adult!Tsuna is willing do inflict the same treatment as what his adult figures in life has done to inflict sufferings on him. The very same treatment of staying silent to his own family while doing thing at their back and not care one damn about what the kids feel. Because he needs this family to live on and his family is now Vongola.

Side note, the Simon family is also a case how legacy doom all of them. They technically can just be a civillian and live on. But no, Enma hates the boss title but he still has to stand up as a boss of a family that may very well be dead long ago. Other kids, especially in Kaoru and Rauji’s case who likes Yamamoto and Lambo a lot, when standing in front of the duty of legacy aka fight as Simon’s guardian, they do not hestitate to ready to kill the person they just called friends.

If anything, all children and parents here are some sort of victim to that legacy, and the older victims aka adults do what they thing is right to shape the younger victim aka kid to adapt to the situation. “Getting stronger”, “getting friends” (which are downright hardcore mafia) all the good shounen typicall mottos are just cover for a method of adaptation so that one can survive in the mafia.

And lastly it is so funny to me because none put up this. KHR could dig this up and cook it live how Iemitsu’s parenting is both right and wrong at the same time because both sides have it very own parallel. He keeps his son safe by not telling him anything and does not let Tsuna involve in mafia. The first paralle for it is Xanxus: being keeps silent about the truth, desvastating when find it out, and process to wage a civil war that none can make excuse for his tantrum. The second parallel is Enma, who knows about his family’s true business as mafia, and then witnessing his own family got murdered right in front of his eyes. Heck, they can even bring Nono’s three sons onto a table of how both knowing and involving in the business will not end up happily but nope.

Unpopular opinion but sometimes it does weird me out a little how some kinda forget some of Tsuna’s friends are like… hardcore criminal and in fact knowing a lot of the world they are in and in some ways, dragging Tsuna (and other civillian’s friends) in.

Even uncount Hibari for his lack of background story (which a lot agrees that he is a Yakuza kia, I can see the point, but no confirmation until now so it is vague) then we still have direct confirmation as Gokudera is an well-know assassin with name for himself (and a notorious reputation of a wild animal that even Nono was wary of him at first) and Mukuro is a Vindice prisoner with two masscare cases attached to his name.

Even if we put aside the adult like Varia and Dino, we have Basil who is literally worker of an information organization of the most powerful mafia family, Uni is boss of a mafia family herself, and Enma and the whole Simon family is basically living on the dark side of mafia treatment since they are kids.

The thing about Tsuna’s trap that has been set up by adults around him is that most of his friends are hardcore mafia and have a very deep connection to mafia. Not all of them are kids being pulled into the darkness, some of them are born into it and grow up to be a version of the darkness themselves. Why it is a tragedy, we can see that right in Gokudera and Tsuna’s most basic interaction: Gokudera sees Tsuna being Vongola Decimo is something to be proud off, and it takes him two arcs to Varia arc to actually see Tsuna apart of the pride and glory of Vongola which he himself thinks Tsuna would like it (leading to him almost risks his life for the Storm ring until Tsuna tells him to fuck it because he doesn’t care about it). This kinda comes back in the Inheritance arc when almost all the gang (Gokudera, Yamamoto, Ryohei) looks so thrilled and exicted hearing there will be a ceremony when people acknowledges Tsuna as the legit boss of Vongola – no one gives a wonder about Tsuna being so worried and scared when hearing it, and it takes someone with the same position of forced boss to notice that Tsuna is not happy about the situation.

It is a tragedy because alongside with kids as civillian who know almost nothing like Yamamoto and Ryohei, we have kids who know it very well as they have been born and raised in that environment (and some even commits crime that shakes that environment); but because they are born and raised in that environment, they uphelp a totally 360 degree different viewpoint from their own boss, Tsuna, and thus see the world differently from Tsuna. They can totally understand Tsuna as someone who is very kind and want to be with his family and will do everything to protect them, but they will not and will never understand Tsuna’s fervent rejection of the boss title, and thus never realize they themselves, from the way they call him as boss or Decimo to their own actions of regarding him as someone in high position, are also a chain that chain Tsuna to the world he rejects so much.

#khr#im of opinion#that its the adults fault because its always adults job to protect the kids#so even for cases like gokudera and mukuro#they wouldnt be here if it wasnt for adults manipulating them and not protecting them from mafia#but again this is mafia and adults just arent good people which leads to kids growing up in the dark parts of society#and becoming vongola guardian is just another chain to mafia#a strong heavy chain#and they either dont have a choice or they think its a blessing#and with that choice they in return become tsunas chain that keeps him from completely leaving reborns training#so all sides are keeping each other chained and trapped#and its the fault of adults like reborn and timoteo#there is a difference between being independent assasin and then at one point maybe earn enough to try to live civilian life#or become vongola guardian and basically have giant red target on your back the entire time you wear that ring#in the end its important for tsuna to have all different perspectives#which guardians provide for better or worse#they are all a tragedy#like the fact lambo is somehow safer as guadian for the biggest mafia boss than with his own family is so sad#like maybe its naive of me where i can imagine gokudera going to school and living more as a civilian#(not fully of course not fully a criminal)#(just... dancing on the edge)#and lambo either getting adopted by nana or some other parents since it doesnt look like his family cares#im not even gonna comment on iemitsu dragging another kid into it#but for someone like mukuro...#idk if i explained it well#these are after all teenagers and not kids without any autonomy#so maybe completely faulting adults isnt correct either#but again adults just made it all worse#in the end guardian were mostly chosen because they wouldnt really be missed if something were to go wrong#and if a kid is in mafia that makes it even more likely theres no one in their corner Previous tag. Anyways I like Iemitsu as a dad and i can agree he makes unagreeable choice as parent. Two statements can coexist.

This also can coexist altogether: The "unagreeable choice" Iemitsu makes is the part he keeps silent about his true job to his supposed family. While i can see his logic of wanting to keeping his family safe from his job, i also see that this is not a wise and should-be-encouraged choice, because if anything happens to him, his family will sure be very distraught about that while still not knowing what really happens, which would be Iemitsu's fault.

But that unagreeable choice doesn't villainize him to the level of neglecting or abusing his son like... Heck the anime was even trying to shove it into watcher's mouth that Iemitsu and Tsuna once have normal family moments.

Anyhow this doesn't really related to Iemitsu but Nana more this time, does no one want to take in the factor of the author being 2000s adult mindset thus writing family dynamic also 2000s Asian parents pattern? Nana is a very clear Asian mother with how she worries about Tsuna's grade and future (and her wish of her son's future is him being successful and earn good job, which add on that) O don't understand why people calls out her action in the chapter with Kyoko, she bows down (dogeza even, that's like the highest form of uttermost respect - of course normal day Japanese doesn't do that anymore but dogeza is still documented as the highest form of respect and sincerity) and asks Kyoko (who she thoughts is Tsuna's girlfriend) to take care of Tsuna. "My child is a clumsy kluzt please take care of him", come on, go bash Doraemon and ton of rom com out there for saying it in the same ways when people take their partners to introduce them to their family. Even heard of self-humiliation? Or concept of shame in Japan culture?

Finally someone who fucking mentions the elevator incident!!!!! I know our fanbase doesn't bother with reading any of the manga much less bothering to go all the way to the end of it but it genuinely is such a huge fucking shame. Literally one of the most brutal things in the manga... its honestly a wonder Iemitsu is functional considering the shit he sees. And for a moment, you do get scared abt what Iemitsu is capable of - on whether he rly did kill Enma's family as a mafioso on top of the fact that he does beat Tsuna up during the representative arco battles no matter how powerful Tsuna is. Iemitsu is strong as fuck. Yet he isn't the power hungry man ppl think of him as.

Also ik its a pain in the ass for Amano to add any side charas and all, but even for the VARIA - u get to see an army of grunts in their introductory arc and a few in the TYL arc. But for the CEDEF? It just seems like they're running on a handful of ppl despite how good they are. It's probably not an active decision but narratively makes sense considering what Iemitsu’s men went through... I wouldn't want to get close to any other ppl after that either :(

I do think even if Iemitsu isn't the best at raising kids, I think we can also see a degree of nnaivete and wish for the future to be similar to tsuna's desires in the first place: iemitsu doesn't want to treat these kids like soldiers, he wants them to have their childhood instead of everything being destroyed. It's why he still reaches out to Tsuna, treats him and the others like regular kids instead of just only focusing on himself. You get to see pieces where Iemitsu does know he is a husband and a father, instead of mafioso. He goes out and plays with Lambo and I-Pin, shops with Nana, and plays the corny dad he's meant to be. This is Iemitsu Sawada, not the Young Lion of Vongola. (I think abt the scene where the vindice interrupts shit and destroys the Sawada house partially and Iemitsu is like I PAID FOR THAT. MY MORTGAGE.... hilarious. He is so unappreciated orz)

Even with Basil, he does train the boy but Basil just seems so naive and not broken in by the mafia that it's almost hard to really place him as someone who has been raised by Iemitsu / the mafia. I know there is also the argument of ppl thinking Iemitsu is cruel to Basil too, but I don't see that. I see someone who trains Basil as needed and makes him more than capable enough to survive even against Squalo. Crazy but well, its the mafia, what would be the other option? I think Iemitsu trusts these characters more than the fans do, and he's always been a meticulous character imo. He is meant to be unreadable and distant. Bc that IS his role as both a mafioso and a man separate from everything but also dealing w the combustive inner workings of Vongola - we not even talking abt the whole Nono v Iemitsu thing even tho we know Xanxus set it up, it does show us that Iemitsu knows that his loyalty isn't blindly set up by the process of only Nono's decisions. Timoteo and him have to both agree, and I think the Varia arc rly shows him well as an "executive" who has to stay calm and collected during the most stressful times. He is no longer just a subordinate to the Vongola in this arc, he is vital to forming the future, even if it means going at odds with both the main branch and the varia branch.

Like yeah, it is no wonder he stays away and takes the burdens himself... Iemitsu is an almost tragic character, especially with how things just crumble as the plot goes on.

Unfortunately Iemitsu looks too out of the norm for ppl to accept that he isn't actually being abusive to Tsuna OR Nana... looks have always mattered in fandom lol. I'm glad you're also talking abt how the anime also doesn't vilify him either bc ppl already act like the anime only sealing is vital to why Tsuna is so bad at life and why we should kill Iemitsu and Nono like girl if it did that we would've known in the first place lol. It took away one of his childhood memories and stopped him from hurting ppl / getting involved too soon. Smh. On first note, I like Iemitsu and Basil’s interaction. Basil is an example that Iemitsu can be a good master and tutor on mafia standard. We all see how battle-trained the little boy is and he highly respects Iemitsu.

On this, Iemitsu can be a good tutor on mafia standard :V does Tsuna even want that :V he has been a normal citizen for a decade of his life, imagine what verbal rejection he would say (like how he said to Reborn) if Iemitsu offers to train Tsuna.

I have so much to talk about this Ring Battle arc, but for now people seems to forget how Iemitsu supports his son through choosing his Mist guardian for him. Does he tell Tsuna about that? No, Tsuna has to find it out the roundabout way that his dad made a deal with Mukuro (in Chrome's body) in midst of Mist Battle. I think this arc presents their father - son dynamics really well as well as how Iemitsu is as a person. He is the type of person who will appears cringe and lackadaisical and even uncool useless lying around being the worst example of role model to children (feeding them sake) but at the same time he is sharp, loyal and calm, also protective and supportive but hiddenly.

I wish Tsuna and him has more interaction in Rainbow arc because I see so many Iemitsu in Tsuna, he is real apple that not far from the tree at all. Very typical example we see how TYL Tsuna keeps secret of his plan so he can protect everyone - bruh that peak Iemitsu attitude, and nope this is not even once time thing as he repeats the attitude with Kyoko later in Inheritance arc and Rainbow arc.

That's said, come back to the Varia arc a little, i think the flame sealing scene (which is anime only, i hate anime but this time it is innocent) is a very clear example of how some fan truly have like, media literacy being zero. I am fine with people headcanon about stuff like Tsuna is clumsy due to the flame sealing but hating Nono and Iemitsu on that, what. Heck, do people even wonder why that filler appears in Varia arc? Because its purpose is to set a straight clear contract to Xanxus - someone who awakens his flame early, got into mafia early and ends up being an absolutely heartless arrogrant tyrant. It is already shown in Daily arc how the moment Tsuna got announced as Vongola heir he got assassins go straight to his house (no not reborn and lambo but the people who really is hired to kill or in short harm him, Mukuro counted as one); so really this "flame sealing" should be looked as a way that Nono and Iemitsu doesn't want Tsuna to get involved with the dangerous world that early (heck they says that clear in the scene how can people even twist that)

I understand that Iemitsu is a character (with visible flaws) and yes fan has all the rights to hate him, but making up things about him to hate on him is another matter. He does not abandon Tsuna (he left home for 2 years stated in Varia arc which means he just gone for a few months if not saying weeks then Reborn show up Daily arc) he does try to bond with Tsuna (but not to Tsuna's liking), he does indeed lying around most of the time when he is home and he is indeed very uncool for that, but apart from two time punching his son (which taking the background of Rainbow arc they technically should fight each other?) not a single time he even abuses Tsuna (which i see a lot claiming?)

It is still very wild to me how people blame it all on Vongola Nono's lying/not telling Xanxus the truth about his birth heritage for Xanxus's coup.

Is it wrong of Nono not telling Xanxus that he is adopted? Yes.

Is is the justified reason for Xanxus to start the Cradle? Heck no.

(Don't even see how that even is a reason. Xanxus is lied to, Xanxus feels betrayed, and his reaction is to "revenge" on the person who feed him and let him educated and let him act high and mighty without much consequences, not to mention hurting a lot of irrelevant people during that coup?)
