*clawing at the walls of my enclosure* Hey, so, that new Wifies video huh? I really like it, it's smaller then his previous but man, does it hit. The guy who voiced Hummer (Schpood) really sold me on that obsession, desperation, excitement and hope. Most of the video got that "nodding along with the crackhead" vibe, love it.
Anyway theory/analysis time.
TL,Dr: The Search For The Leviathan is a piece about faith, Hummer is the blind belief, Arronax is the logical outlook. Both of them represent the good and the bad parts of their way of looking at things.
As many people noticed Hummer most likely doesn't exist (no log-in message, no death message, his items aren't in the final screenshots, Para doesn't seam to see him) and some people belive he's a representation of the part of Wifies that wants to belive in the things he searches. All those myths and hoaxes. And I agree! He's that part of all of us tbh, that wants all those things to be real, to belive. That part of you that believed in Herobrine and such.
He sincerely researches Levi, gives his all for this, doesn't let himself be swayed in his believes - which is also his flaw. Makes him obsessive, seam crazy, pushes people away with his intensity (Wifies clearly wants to leave a couple of times but his curiosity keep him there). He is such a good representation of someone who wholly believes and just needs one more proof. (imo) The Leviathan is real, you just need to belive.
What I haven't seen people talking about is that I believe that Arronax is the representation of that part of Wifies that doesn't belive in those things. We never see her, we only hear her voice. She's the part that researches, knows the most obscure bugs and features, seeks the most logical answers, explains all their knowledge to others (museum/videos). She wanted to see Levi but couldn't put blind faith in him. Which isn't a total flaw! It isn't good to belive in every thing you hear! But she won't see him. The Leviathan isn't real, it just two obscure bugs mixed together.
And there's the character Wifies. C!Wifies represents the middle, the transitional state. He lost hope of these fantastical things, seen too many fakes, realised Santa isn't real etc. He can't easily belive because of a feeling like Hummer, but not so jaded as to be completely against it like Arronax. He WANTS to belive, but can't. Two times he fails. He knows too much, seen too much, that part of him is fading. No one can see Hummer while many people vist Arronax's server.
But in the end, he believes. He makes the leap, throws away the water breathing potion. He chooses to forget the logic and wholly believes. And he's rewarded! He sees the Leviathan (the heart and what wasn't recorded), he succeeds!
Hummer picking up the potion accidentally and not seeing Levi represents c!Wifies not needing him anymore, he doesn't need someone else to belive for him - he himself already does. Arronax isn't mention anywhere in the ending - abandoning the easiest, most logical, boring answer for the fantastical, mysterious and fun.
"I won't stop until I figure it out (logic is not fully rejected, still wants answers, truth). For you (that part that always belived, always wanted the fantastical to be real, maybe that younger part that faded) and for me (that part that regained faith, that found the spark of whimsy, that believes again)."
What a lovely pice about belief in the unbelievable, really hit home for me, my heart was POUNDING man.
