i really really really really really like hadestown's repeated use of "eurydice was a hungry girl" because at first pass you might think oh, she's scrappy and street smart and her ambition is going to be the foil to orpheus's idealist romanticism. but nope! no she is literally hungry. she is starving. that is her motivator and everybody knows it. she loves, oh she does, but she can't be fucking blamed for fulfilling her physical needs first.

of all the things that made the hadestown proshot worth watching, i was most impacted by the performance of Flowers. OBCR Flowers is beautiful and emotional, yes, but the proshot version is fucking raw. eurydice screaming and crying. desperately pleading: "IS ANYBODY LISTENING?" tears streaming down her face: "I OPEN MY MOUTH AND NOTHING COMES OUT!" and you believe it, somehow, even though you're sitting there hearing her, because you can feel the dead air as nobody answers. they can hear, but they don't care. what does it matter that we all hear her? no one says anything. how can she know anyone is listening if no one acknowledges her at all? you feel that song like being punched in the stomach over and over, like you're clawing through dirt but you can't quite dig yourself out of a grave. and that's just the power of eva noblezada man.

(thumbnail is kinda wack but trust me ok) just watched this video n i think everybody else should too. i love tlou, i love tlou2, but i think it's important that you can love something and also recognize its flaws, especially when it comes to stuff like this. the "it's a stretch" argument doesn't work when it comes to the parallels that were very intentionally drawn between the seattle conflict in tlou2 and the genocide happening in palestine right now, and whether the perspectives shown were presented this way by malice or sheer ignorance and fear of confronting their own biases doesn't matter. tlou2 can be good and bad at the same time, but it's important to stay strong in your stances. boycott naughty dog and neil druckmann. boycott israel. end the genocide and free palestine

i need an outlet for the years of pain and suffering i spent as a competing member of a swim team. i like to think that jesse made fast friends with ellie when she arrived at jackson, they both have a lot of drive and motivation to work shifts and probably ran into each other often, along with jesse wanting to welcome her into town. and obviously she learned to swim not long after arriving, since shes a strong enough swimmer that joel isnt worried about her at all by the time her 16th birthday rolled around. i think after she gets the fundamentals down, jesse invites her with a couple other kids to go swimming and she eventually goes. maybe as the summer goes on, their group gets a little smaller and he gives her pointers because in my mind hes a cracked fucking swimmer. an absolute fish. can be taken out by one cold current though. joel teaches ellie to swim, but jesse definitely teaches her speed and other tricks. ellie beats him exactly one time and NEVER lets it go (he gets her back by winning a target practice game at 17 and holds it over her head to this day)
