Emergency: Disabled Queers in Crisis

Hey guys, I hate to do this. But things are getting desperate. My partner and I are being kicked out from the house we were told would "always have a place for us". We already had plans to move, but due to finances, we'd need several months to afford it and we were looking to move out by mid to late February. This was clearly communicated, however, less than a week afterward, he sent a pdf saying that we had done several things that we either had already communicated we were working to mitigate, or he had either caused or made worse. Once the note had finished dragging our names, it said that we needed to be out by January 1st.

The reason that this is impossible is that my partner, Fletcher, is disabled, needing 24/7 'round-the-clock care, needs 24/7 oxygen, and on Supplemental Security Income. I am Fletcher's aide. I am the only person in the area who is able or willing to take care of him. As such I am unable to get any kind of job. I am also unable to find remote work as I also don't have many qualifications.

We needed several months to save up paychecks and funds that need to be also used for food and other necessities. Again, this was clearly communicated.

I'm going to share the hell that we've been living in for 2 years and it gets gross so I'm putting that under the cut.

It doesn't help that we are currently living in would best be described as a condemned building. For instance, this is the bathroom:

That's right, folks. A raw particleboard floor and a pair of curtains for doors. The tub is just as bad.

There used to be a hose shower head, but that was replaced without talking to us, who need that. And that's not all there's also a hole in the ceiling, partially from water damage, partially from raccoons.

And then there's the next problem area.

More raw flooring, plus water damage plus, cat feces everywhere.

He has 8 cats by the way. And only 4 litter boxes that he only cleans at most once a week.

The water damage comes from a part of the roof that is likely caved in as when it rains, it also rains inside. It's also FULL of some kind of mold that I was told was only mildew, but I'm pretty sure it's black mold.

And that is spreading to the kitchen!

And yes, that is a CARPETED kitchen.

So yeah, please help us get out of here.

how to understand terms of service (hey. if you have trouble with reading legalese and worry about being able to understand these policies anyways, here's a site that gives basic summaries of privacy policies and ToS)

what a cookie actually is

internet privacy and your digital footprint!! seriously i dont know why we stopped teaching people that they shouldnt be putting their entire real identity online in a world where your online actions can ruin you irl

basic safety measures like antivirus software (and why you should use it or if the built in one on windows or mac is enough for you) and backing up your computer (also a mac guide)

common keyboard shortcuts (and on mac)

as an additional note: things i think everyone should know on computers and the internet but schools may bit hesitant to teach about for whatever moral/legal standards schools pretend to operate on

vpns and adblockers! (btw for most of these where you can pay for things im purposefully not recommending any specific software but seriously just use ublock origin for an adblocker)

In my first year university course there was a class I remember as being mandatory (at least for English majors) about fallacies and biases in writing. And this prof was all about reading the whole article before you formed your argument. That was his whole thing. You know measure twice cut once he was read twice respond once. He stressed this so much that on our final exam (which was two long form essay questions and a few short answer questions) that I decided to read the WHOLE exam booklet before I grabbed my pen.

Turns out that is what he wanted. The final page, the final question, informed the student that if they wrote 1. Their name, 2. Their student number 3. Their favourite fallacy, and wait for 30 minutes so they don't arouse suspicion, you will literally be given 100 percent for the exam WORTH 40 PERCENT OF YOUR GRADE.

I think about it to this day. The prof literally saw the "reading comprehension on this site is piss poor" and said I can fix them

Project Dragon was a game that was in development for 3 years only to be canceled weeks from its announcement and its entire art and development team laid off by the Phoenix Labs. The game (which would have been called 'Everhaven' upon release) was intended to be a multiplayer sandbox rpg taking inspiration from both Minecraft and Breath of the Wild, with an art style similar to that of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which some of the team members also worked on along with Crash Bandicoot 4.

According to character design/illustrator Nicolas Kole "Our cancelled project of the last 3 years is officially, truly dead as of today (internal attempts to save it failed), and the embargo on the whole body of portfolio work has been lifted". This means that the only way the game has a chance of resuming development is by raising awareness and spreading the word of it's development. Oca the ocarina golem not only had a 3D model ready to go, but also some animations and even his own theme!

Animations were created by Dave Huddleston who was also lead animator on both Crash Bandicoot 4 and Spyro Reignited.

Oca's Theme was done by, Cris Velasco, who has also created music for games such as God of War, Mass Effect, Bloodborne, Resident Evil, and several other well known franchises.

I hate writing advice on this website because it'll be a list of things to get over a writer's block and then one of them will be like

"Take a break :) sometimes if you're struggling with writer's block, taking some time away from writing helps :)"

bitch I haven't been able to write anything since 2014. This is a solution to a different problem.

some tips that might actually help ;w;

if you haven't been writing in forever -> write something (anything, 1 word, 2 words) that could tangentially be related to a creative piece (i.e. the tiniest of a fragment of a poem, a weird dream you had, turn your shopping list into an acrostic poem, write about an object in front of you even if its a boring 5 word description) read something [reading literally anything, fan-fiction, novels, comics, poetry, anything, can give your brain a spark to write something like that. If you do get a spark just throw words on a page, phone notes app, iPad notes, a word doc, a google doc, anywhere]

if a blank page bothers you -> in Microsoft word you can change the background colour of your word documents which can make them not stark white! I've switched mine to black with white text cause my eyes/brain struggle with the black text on white pages, but it can also help remove that stuck point. Another potential helper is to open a document [on whatever device/platform you are comfortable with] and jot down words, then use that document the next time you write literally anything. I know that a blank page feels daunting so yeeting a bunch of stuff onto the same page can help.

can't write but you love talking? -> a lotta writing software has dictation now! (yay for accessibility!) talk to google docs/your word document and let it write onto that page for you, this can be a good way to get stuff out of your brain and down somewhere so you don't forget it. Which can also be helpful if you get stuck with "this needs to be worded exactly right or I'm not writing at all", because you're just talking about the thing rather than trying to write the thing it might mess up understanding you but you can edit it later if you actually want/need it to make sense

don't tie yourself to a single project -> as someone who's brain hates being forced to stick to one thing, especially when its suddenly interested in thing b, do not force yourself to work on a project for any reason [unless money is involved or you are absolutely required aka uni essays] writing bits and pieces for the 6 different ideas you have floating around is better than writing nothing at all

free yourself from "sit and write" bullshit -> all that advice of "making a habit" and "write x amount of words per day" and "do x writing activity"? throw it out the window, we don't use that shit here. write eclectically and wherever your brain can sync [if you get an idea on a bus, find a way to write even just the sentence that's on repeat in your head cause you think it sounds just perfect, it can help you later]

write with the idea that literally you and only you have to read your notes -> if you have a story/plot idea, don't write formally about the plot, don't even start writing the story itself if that's not your jam! write as if its a silly little post to yourself/your close friends [bonus this can make you smile later when you re-read stuff you wrote] write in memes! write in nonsense words that make sense to you! it doesn't matter!

if you're struggling to write content for the thing you want, make memes instead -> meme templates are easy to come by and can easily be used in MS paint it gives you the illusion of having been working on the thing without actually working on the thing, making it a bit easier to keep working or to work on it again in the future

don't be afraid to completely overhaul ideas -> I've been writing the same damn book for 10 years because I've had to overhaul it three times, and I finally don't hate looking at it, writing it, or reading it sometimes you really have to toss everything except some names/settings and start fresh to make a project work with you instead of against you
