Ribbon has extreme light sensitivity, so their eyes'll be damaged if they open their eyes in a room that's even a smidgeon too bright :< so to prevent her eyes from getting any worse that thick band of ribbon protects them!! ^^
however she. also cannot see and is effectively blind because of the blindfold. but it stops it from getting any worse so ╮(￣▽￣"")╭
Button's vocal chords are super messed up because of. an incident we won't talk about :3c causing them to become selectively mute :[
they can speak, but they're deeply insecure about the sound of their new voice and only trust Ribbon to hear it
so Button is Ribbon's eyes and in exchange Ribbon is their voice!! go my interdependent babies!! <33

in the afterlife gang's universe, anything born/made(???) in the afterlife is fully genderless, because logically you don't really need those organs when god/satan/whoevertheheck just. conjures their fuckers up themself anyway. really helps with population control too
so what ends up happening instead is they just do whatever and dress however and end up accidentally presenting as a gender and just kinda go with it. sometimes they stay androgenous tho. very commonly they stay (mostly) androgenous like Caspian
~90% of the time their experience is like, for example: an angel enjoys wearing dresses and likes the sound of being called she/her and other stereotypically Femme things and anything with a gender construct on their planet will go 'oh! you're a woman!' and the angel will just shrug and go.
