Having close up examples of the work he has shot as well as describing what these photos mean to him is extremely touching. When he says “my work is made from lots of brief encounters” I felt that resonate with me as someone who loves images.

Telling stories of his past and the history behind who he is today and what he has learned. Applying it to his skills now as an artist of many mediums. Taking notice to the smaller things in life. We are all just trying to connect with humanity as a whole and part of that is through documentation.

Getting to see him in action on set and the role he plays as a photographer taking note of the story is he trying to portray makes me think of him as a translator of sorts. How he himself is connected with his camera specifically to never miss a beat while capturing moments.

I wanted to do a fun daydream-type picture, trying to choose what to wear and imagining what the outfits will look like in the available windows. The black-and-white contrast seemed to fit.

Scene 1:

I like this scene because it made me think about all that I took for granted. Nas knew that he had nicer things growing up compared to his friends, and he realized at a young age that he had advantages that his friends didn’t. Makes me think about all that I had growing up that my friends didn't have.

Scene 2:

I chose this scene because I went to a low income public school for high school and my parents also taught at low income schools. Growing up I saw a ton of my classmates flunk out or continually fail classes simply because they didn’t care. I never understood how this happened, so this scene put it into perspective.

Scene 3:

I like this scene because it showed Nas’ hard work pay off. He earned a large sum of money for the first time in his life so it paid off for him to drop out. And he got to share his success with his brother which was really cool to see.
