I have a hard time grasping his motivations sometimes. Is he using the regrets card to have him write down the rest of the will, or does he want Kinzo to focus on the Beatrice matter because he's actually worried for everyone's souls.

I don't know how to interpret this with a dead Kinzo. Maybe they're wondering whether it's safe enough to forge a will?

Like okay, Nanjo. What do you even mean by this. This man is an ultra trillionaire with kids and grandkids. Why would he NOT write a will.

You guys can tell me "Rose, he knows Kinzo's character and that's why he knows it's useless to recommend it". AND YET! He doesn't mention their proximity as the reason why he won't do it. He just says Kinzo isn't a "normal patient".

I do know what a checkmate is and it seems like Kinzo is winning the match. But it doesn't matter if you're 90% on your way to victory if you die right before it happens. You're still dead.

Dead Kinzo Theory Interpretation: Krauss (most likely) is on top of things and all will go well if he can finish his moves, but the risk of being found out is extremely high.

Okay I just googled Absinthe and apparently it can have up to 74% alcoholic content. Kinzo is insane.

Also yeah. The way he picks up and puts down Nanjo in the last what? 5 pages? is lowkey disturbing.

Once again the shift of who's who in Kinzo's list of favorites. He's capricious, not afraid of putting "friends" against each other. No wonder his kids are all like that.

Dead Kinzo might be saying Genji is more important to the keep up of the cover than Nanjo. Which I guess is true? Nanjo doesn't live here after all.

I need to figure out what the alcohol means in all of this.

When Nanjo releases tension and watches Genji pour out drinks, Kinzo is suddenly nicer than before and calls him a close friend telling him he's done all he could. Nanjo rejects it, clinging to a sense of uselessness. Kinzo waves it off by comparing the failure to save Kinzo's life to a mistake in chess.

Is this Nanjo processing his grief?

Or is Kinzo alive and a tsundere?

Also: See how Kinzo doesn't even answer him. Genji asks him if he's sure, Genji looks at the both of them, and then he makes Kinzo a drink. Kinzo doesn't affably insists, he doesn't curse Genji out, there's no back and forth. Genji can't even put in the effort of pushing back a little FOR THE SAKE OF HIS MASTER.

(If Kinzo is alive), Genji knows this would kill him. But he cares more for short term absolute obedience than Kinzo's (if alive) well being.

I do need to settle down on how to approach scenes with Kinzo walking and talking when he might be dead. Is Nanjo remembering all the times Kinzo humiliated him in front of Genji or does the framing/core of the scene not come from Nanjo at all.

It is fun to cherry pick from the dialogue and say "your body only appears to be healthy" as a sign of illusions at work but like I said. I'm not sure on the mechanics.

Hello Kinzo. Nice to see you putting Nanjo on the same level of friendship as your alcoholism. Actually drinking is hierarchically above Nanjo.

Amazing. I do think the term "unapologetically" is a very Kinzo way of approaching life. I'll be on the lookout for more of those from him.

There doesn't seem to be any half fake walls or curtains separating his sleeping space from the rest of the room. Kinzo just put his (expensive) bed in a corner and called it a day.

I can't believe the first thing to greet us in Umineko is Doctor Nanjo. It's with a reluctant heart that I assign him "person of unfortunate importance" to the story.

The first sentence can be just that, a simple first sentence. Or it can be an intentional thesis statement.

"...............Again. ...So, you still haven't overcome your love of alcohol?"

Not vice, not addiction, not alcoholism. The Love of alcohol. Despite the disappointment from Nanjo, a small hope that Kinzo would let go of it, the wording implies an attachment to drinking that goes beyond chemical dependence. He knows Kinzo enjoys it.

Whether that is solely about the drinking or if it's every sin he's committed, who knows? This is the first page.

What I CAN believe is that we get our first mention of DUST here as well. And also maybe Kinzo's rotting corpse. Him being dead from the start of the game (remember this conversation has no marked date) is very funny and I'm scared of biased investigations on my part.

But good lord no one can explain to me why Genji doesn't clean up this place.
