Abolishing it up in my brain rn bc I had been wondering like- what sort of shift in events would have to unfold for Abolish to wind up turned semi early game ( like around episodes 2-5 ) & actually GO mingle with the 'coven crew' instead of activating insta-kill mode.
AND THAT'S WHEN IT HIT ME.
You'd have to give that man AMNESIA, for that to properly work.
What if, maybe. ( walk with me here with my horrifically unpolished ideas. ) Perhaps, Abolish's efforts to protect the town landed him into trouble. No matter how skilled you are at collecting resources, there'll always be the underlying danger that comes with caverns. And when you've been stretched entirely too thin trying to protect a town that seems to be actively self destructing- whilst also dealing with the sting of your grief. ( An old grief sure, but one that had been resurfaced under the assumption you'd be able to FINALLY build them a grave in peace. )
Compartmentalizing everything can only get you so far, and it only takes one mistake. Perhaps it was a creeper who managed to sneak up behind him- or a skeleton who got a lucky shot. And Abolish slipped and ✨ fell ✨ - unceremoniously hitting his head and getting trapped under some gravel.
And it is here where blending into the background and being clearly competent actually worked against him. Not many would notice the quiet butler's absence considering the circumstances at hand. - fewer still who would think he couldn't handle himself. After all it wasn't odd for Abolish to be off on his own regardless. Not to mention he lived alone. Unfortunately and realistically- an absence would not be read as strange for quite some time.
No, no. It would not be the townspeople who notice first. ( At least not until it was too late )
But the vampires at the castle would have good reason to early on. One tends to pay attention to potential threats when they aren't within easy view. They would surely take heed, tell the others to keep an eye out.
....And SURPRISINGLY I think Owen would be the most interesting of the lot to find him actually. Barely clinging to life, some evidence of his attempted escapes.
And perhaps for a moment he would not see Abolish - but instead the lumberjack who was a ghost within Oakhurst. The one who brought in the vital resource that was wood but was ostracized and ignored. How easily his story could have gone had Louis not shown him such kindness. He had not MEANT to turn Abolish even- just to put the 'butler' out of his misery. But that mere moment of empathy betrayed him, and low and behold - new blood. Soon of course the rest of the coven is arriving to see just WHAT happened.
And ( despite vampirism curing all ailments ) I think the amnesia would stick. One's mindset and wants when they are turned seems to play an awful lot into how they act afterwards. And perhaps in a way, he would want that? An escape, a way to exist as Abolish without the grief that Veylock represents? To not have to segment and lock away things constantly? Perhaps ( unwittingly ) Abolish would find it an unknown relief for a time.
Abolish in this series of events would seem much ..Lighter, than before. Still extremely useful ( Though his efforts would be pointed towards assisting the coven now. After all Owen HAD saved him ) and kind. If Abolish Veylock is anything at his core, he is always kind- in small, quiet ways. And after all he doesn't remember that he's supposed to be 'in character', so- he's just, well. Himself
And those who interacted with him afterwards would be confused at best- and concerned at worst. Had the man they known truly changed THAT much? Had becoming a vampire truly been for the best? At least, they think so. At least until they notice the moments in-between. The moments where Abolish is saddled that frustrating sickness that comes with forgetting, it plagues him. The moments where sadness echoes in his eyes, because while the mind may forget grief the body does not.
Perhaps - perhaps??? IS THIS SOMETHING?
