“Does that mean that you don’t consider the time you spend with your kids as fun?”
“That’s not what I said and it’s not what I meant.”
“I always find it hard to go out, sometimes I forget how to have fun. I completely understand what you mean though. It’s always nice to have a break with no baby talk.”
“I don’t get to go out much, especially between the twins and a full time job. So when I do get to go, I like to have fun. It is...yeah.”
“People seem to have this weird idea that your life has to end when you have kids. I wouldn’t pay any attention to it. People who do usually end up resenting their kids over the years. Get fucked up to your heart’s content.”
“I don’t pay attention to it. I know I’m a great mom. I don’t want to necessarily get ‘fucked up’, I just want to have a night out. Dance, having a drink or two.”
“Tell them to keep their nose out of your business. People judge though, it’s what they do — just ignore it. Like I said, it’s not their business, and you shouldn’t care either way. Just do what you wanna do and all that jazz.”
“I don’t give a fuck, I know I’m a great mom and that’s all that matters. It’s just disheartening that people will judge you so easily.”
“Hey, – You do you, love. Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise,” he hoped to strengthen her confidence in that moment. “As long as you know where your kids are before you go out, I think that’s all that matters.”
“They’re safe with my brother. I would never leave them any other way, contrary to what others may think.”
“I hate that mentality—that just because you’re a mom, that automatically means that you have to be chained to your kids, that the fun just stops. You’re absolutely right, you are allowed to have fun, and that’s exactly what we’re gonna do!”
“Don’t get me wrong, you know I love the boys more than anything...but I can have fun, too. Exactly. Thank you for hanging out with me tonight.”
“I hate when people think all parents should do is sit around at home. Just because people have kids doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have fun every once in a while. — I mean, all I do is sit around at home, but it’s because of me, not my son.”
“Right? I don’t get what people are thinking. I’m twenty-two, my life isn’t going to be over just because I have the boys. I’m allowed to have nights to myself. I totally get that, I do that sometimes, too. How old is your son?”
“How do they know you’re a mom? Do you carry around a pacifier in your purse or something?” Beau realized how that must have come out but he was genuinely curious. He’d never understood how much attention someone would have to be paying to make snap judgments like that. “Though if you’ve got a crazy visible baby bump and you’re at a bar downing drinks I could see people judging you. Especially here.”
“Because I’ve lived here for a year and most people know me and that I have sons.” Rose shrugs, replying softly. “Well...I don’t. I’m currently not pregnant and the boys are safe with my brother, so people have absolutely no reason to be judgemental tonight.”
“Well I say anyone who judges you is stupid. Your life doesn’t stop just because you have kids.”
“Exactly. I’m young and single, being a mom shouldn’t restrict me from going out. How do people think the boys got here in the first place?”
“Exactly, girl! That’s just so last… I don’t even know what year that mentality belongs to. If you feel like they’re judging you for this, well.. fuck them, right?” Rick laughed. ”Why is everyone having the same haircut? Is this the new trend?”
“Exactly, fuck them. Like, do people think their moms stayed in the house all the time after they’re born?” She teases. “I don’t think it’s a trend. Summer is just a good time to cut your hair since it’s so hot outside.”
“People will always find an excuse to judge others who look like they’re having more fun than them, so I say fuck it, y’know? If we lived our entire lives based off of what other’s expected of us, then it’d be pretty boring and probably very contradicting. — What kind of stuff have you got planned for your day off?”
“Oh, I don’t really care what they think. It’s just disheartening. Moms can have fun, you know? We don’t shrivel up and stay in the house once the child is born. I’m probably just going to go out and dance, maybe have a drink or two.”
“Well we kind of hooked up and said I love yous and honestly, I don’t know where we stand but yeah.”
“Well that’s great, Noah. I’m happy for you, I really am. I hope it works out.”
“I think it could.”
“Well...we should probably go somewhere a little more private, then. Unless you want me to strip down right here.”
girls night // mellie and rosealie
“Uh, kind of. I mean, it was kind of a talk we had coming after the whole…Jordan situation, we just never had it until after we got married.” Mellie replies, shrugging her shoulders. “Uh, Tris is kind of hesitant, and I understand why, but I told him I don’t wan him to let fear hold him back. If anything happens, then it happens. We can’t not have kids just because he’s scared he’s going to get sick again, you know?”
“I see how that could be difficult to talk about.” Rose says lightly, nodding slowly as Mellie speaks. “Yeah, I get it. If anything, you think that would be more incentive for him to want a kid, you know? Since life is short, and he doesn’t know if he could get sick again or not. I’m not in his position, and I would never try to be, but I definitely agree he shouldn’t let fear hold him back.” Rose shrugs, trying to be helpful. “I think you’d be great parents, Mel. If you ever were to have a baby.”
“That could be arranged.”
“Could it? Because that would be fun.”
