We have just released our summer programme of workshops, including a hand tie bouquet class, a terrarium class as well as a collaborative workshop with @pekoetea_edinburgh ; where we will begin by sampling a number of Japanese green teas, ranging from a sweet and fruity Kukicha to a deep and caramel like Hojicha, whilst creating a light and delicate Ikebana inspired flower arrangement in a specially commissioned vessel handmade for us by artist, @camelbidd . New vacancy || We are looking for an assistant florist to join our small team. We are looking for someone with previous floristry experience and a genuine passion for flowers. This is a public facing role where a confident and friendly approach is required. Responsibilities will include serving customers, creating floral arrangements, monitoring stock levels, ensuring the shop is kept clean and tidy, updating shop displays, responding to enquiries, assisting with social media. You must be enthusiastic, adaptable, reliable and be able to to work on your own initiative. This position is for two days per week on Saturdays and Sundays, plus overtime during busy periods. Job vacancy || We are looking for a Manager to lead our small team. This is a key role within the company; you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the business, from day to day shop duties, admin and weddings. We are looking for someone with previous floristry and managerial experience and a genuine passion for flowers. This is a public facing role where a confident and friendly approach is required. Responsibilities will include managing staff, ordering stock, ensuring the shop is kept looking presentable at all times, responding to enquiries, managing and delivering weddings, managing the marketing including social media, researching new opportunities to develop the business and drive sales, as well as general shop work. You must be enthusiastic, adaptable, reliable and be able to to work on your own initiative. We also need someone with a full UK driving licence. This position is offered initially on a one year contract with the possibility for extension, hours will be 4 days per week (including Saturdays) plus overtime. 5 years ago today I opened my little shop. It looked a bit better than this on opening day though! This was in the weeks after I got the keys and @mjadoyle and I redecorated and fitted it all out. Seems so long ago and yet like it was yesterday all at the same time. This space has changed so much over the years, as has the business. Well that was the snowiest wedding I’ve done! @errolpark2 looking especially beautiful in the snow. Photos of the flowers to follow when my fingers have thawed out a bit. Plant of the Week || Maranta One of our most popular plants, Maranta is commonly known as the Prayer Plant because it folds its leaves at night, like a pair of praying hands. The leaves have an extraordinary red veined pattern running through them and deep red undersides, and every now and then it produces a tiny, delicate lilac flower. They come from the damp tropical jungles of South America, so they like warm, humid environments. Water your plant little and often to ensure the soil doesn't dry out and feed regularly in Spring and Summer. They like high humidity so consider standing the pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water, which will increase the level of humidity around the plant. A north facing window is the ideal spot for them, but if this isn't possible just make sure it's not sitting in direct sun as this will scorch the leaves and cause the patterning to fade. At the same time they don't want to be sitting in your shadiest corner either, so find a happy medium. In the Winter move to a brighter spot to maintain healthy growth but reduce feeding to about once a month. You also want to find a spot where your plant will not get too cold as they're not big fans of draughts, but mind not to get it too close to a radiator! 🌱🌱🌱 (at Rose & Ammi Flowers)

Plant of the Week || Ficus Elastica (Rubber Plant) We have a HUGE rubber plant for you this week!! It’s 150cm tall and has 3 bushy stems in the pot. If you give this plant the right love you’ll be rewarded with a huge tree in your house in years to come. Pop it in a bright position but out of direct sunlight. Be careful not to overwater, as this can lead to the leaves dropping, allow the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings. Available to buy on our online shop for local delivery or collection.
