Romeo Smythe grew up with what he thought were the most loving parents in the world, Cindy and Mark Smythe. They were born in Valentine, Rosebrook just like the last fifty generations of the Smythe family, so it was no different for Romeo and his twin to be the same. He of course was named after Romeo Montague, the famous lead in Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy. Mom was obsessed. She went to school in Patrick studying novels and eventually became one herself. Maybe that was where he got his love for the written word from. His dad on the other hand struggled with jobs but with his wife so well paid, they were doing fine. He tended to commute to Christmas Town to work in the factory and that worked out well for the family. Romeo always got whatever he wanted. His parents showered them with love as do most families do in Valentine.
Following in the footsteps of his mother, Romeo attended school in Patrick, studying creative writing and working in the school library. He loved it. Books were a place for him to escape and dream. He wanted to be an author like his mother but had never been super confident in his skills as a writer.
Romance surrounded his life so it wasn’t surprising that Romeo grew up to be the hopeless romantic that he was. He came out as bisexual to his family at about 16. Terrified to death of course but surprised when they were mostly understanding. His mother at least. He always had a stronger relationship with her. His father on the other hand had to adjust. He wasn’t from Valentine, but from Oak Hills. A much smaller simpler town where things were a little different. How his parents managed to fall in love, Romeo would never know.
When it came to his love life though Romeo was always cautious. He believed that there was one person out there that was your soulmate. That’s what all of the movies and books told him and that’s what he believed. Your one true love. So maybe Romeo was a little picky. The boys were too rough around the edges and the girls were too clingey. He wanted a best friend and someone he could trust and have that romantic spark with. He just hadn’t found them yet.

Marley Rose was born to loving parents and the youngest of the fraternal twins. Marley was closer to her mother than to her father, which she didn’t mind but she had hoped that something would change. When she was eight, she started to help with her mom with baking and fell in love with the idea of baking. She wanted to be close with her twin, but she was nervous to get close since she wasn’t the kind of person who would bug someone. She would be described herself as a wallflower of Christmas Town, but that was okay with her.
As she grew up, she fell in love with baking and listening to music. The more she did those two things, the more she appreciated it. From The Beatles, David Bowie, Prince, Michael Jackson, Whitney Huston, and all of the greats in between that curved her knowledge about the music industry and everything else. Well, except for classical she thinks it’s pretty, but was never her forte. Ever since she was in middle school, Marley wrote her own songs and kept them in a notebook which she put them in the bottom of her dresser that she had gotten her for Christmas one year. She begged her parents for some singing lessons, even though she knew the cost of each lesson, her father gave in while her mother told her that they needed to save the money. Though, her mother gave in after she saw how happy Marley was.
Marley joined the high school choir and heard a lot of whispers about how she wasn’t all that good. That tore her down, and caused some insecurity in the girl but she overcame them with the help of writing her music and joining the school newspaper. She had a few close friends, wasn’t really popular but she gotten along with everybody. She stayed up having some nerdy marathons and movie marathons that included The Hunger Games, and many more. She cared about her grades, making her parents proud of her while being the “goody” two shoes she is.
Marley started attending school in Patrick, figuring it would be the best place to go since they have the best schools. However, she was worried about the money situation. It wasn’t that they weren’t poor, it was more of that they were living paycheck to paycheck. So she picked up a job in the bakery in Christmas and she started to pick up random jobs in Patrick. However, her parents were able to pay for her schooling in full. She kept working, she saw it as a chance to grow and go after what she was most passionate about. While Marley was going through her core classes, she wanted to know more about song writing, and journalism. So she declared two majors during her third semester, Music Production and Journalism. She had thought, if the song writing falls through, she can have a backup plan by working on a newspaper or a magazine. Though, she still writes songs whenever she can and has wanted to submit them into a contest along being one of the best bakers in Christmas town.

Being born on Christmas Eve, it only made sense that Christmas was everything to Mia. It didn’t hurt that her family lived in Christmas town, either. From the beginning, Mia took to the cheeriness of the town. She couldn’t believe the sparkling lights and the atmosphere they created on a daily basis. She was a happy go lucky kid, who loved people and enjoyed everything about the city she lived in. At the age of five, Mia walked into the kitchen the night before her birthday and was asked to help decorate cookies. She willingly accepted, being the open and agreeable person she was. That’s when she caught the bug. Though everyone wanted to be Santa’s helper, even the kids in her grade, she knew that just wasn’t the job for her. She loved baking. Being able to create such beautiful things with simple ingredients quickly became her passion. From that point on, she made sure to help her mother in the kitchen as often as possible, and by the time she was ten, her family expected her to do the Christmas cookie baking every year.
Of course, baking wasn’t the only thing Mia loved growing up. The girl also had a passion for art. From the time she could pick up a crayon, Mia was creating artful masterpieces. She pulled lots of inspiration from the colors she saw around her everyday. The town around her was her muse, and every time she drew, she felt happy and carefree– much like she did when she was baking in the kitchen, or spending time with her family. As the years went by, Mia started to create comics. Her superhero was dressed in red and green and brought cheer to those around her. She fought crimes against humanity with her telekinetic powers while doing it in style. Mia quickly became obsessed with the chronicles of Red Sparrow. When she wasn’t spending time in the kitchen honing in on her baking skills, Mia was at her art desk, drawing, coloring, and perfecting her favorite superhero.
When Mia got to high school, she also discovered she was pretty good at sports. She tried out for volleyball her freshman year and made the varsity team, without much previous experience. From that point on, volleyball became a pretty consistent thing in her life as well. She spent all four years of high school playing volleyball, entering baking contests, making friends in her school’s art club, and developing her comics. By the time the end of high school came around, Mia was ready to head off to college. She’d gotten a scholarship to a local university to play volleyball, which she gladly accepted. They had a culinary arts major and an art club that could fuel all of her desires. Like everything else, Mia put her heart and soul into the four years she spent there. She developed a sense of style that she liked– getting her upper lip pierced, wearing skinny jeans and flannels, and enjoying everything there was to enjoy about art, music, and the people around her. When she was able to walk the stage, Mia looked back at her experience fondly– yet, she was ready to return to Christmas Town with her family and get back to what she knew was her calling– baking.
After returning to Christmas Town, Mia had no problem finding a job. Santa liked his cookies and Mia was very good at making them. She worked directly under the people who worked for the Clauses, providing Santa and the whole town with the best quality baked goods that she could. The town also hosted yearly baking contests that Mia entered into. She loved the ability to compete again, and the fact that she got to do it while baking only egged her on more. Mia didn’t always win, but she enjoyed every second of being a part of the competition. Nothing was going to stop her from enjoying one of the things she loved the most.
Which brings us to present day Mia. She’s still currently living in Christmas Town, baking her heart out. She hasn’t told anyone this yet, but she’s planning on sending a redone first issue of her Red Canary comic to a contact she made in college, hoping against all odds that they like it enough to maybe do something with it. Christmas is quickly approaching and she’s more than ready for the busiest time of the year. She’s been perfecting her favorite recipes and experimenting with new ones to make this the most successful year she’s been a part of yet. Christmas runs in her blood, and she’s ready to take on this years celebration.
