Listening to my 12 year cousin describe his trip to the Egyptian border was such a mindfuck. They travelled 40+ hours in the scorching desert on the back of a pickup truck with 1-2 dead bodies at any given time. Healthy people just dropping dead from heat exhaustion and dehydration. He witness looting, a girl having a rifle held to her head, and the humiliation of begging to enter the border.

I don’t know how we can ever erase this trauma from his little mind or help him process it.
