Levana hadn’t slowed down for hours, she couldn’t. If she stopped to think then the memories of what she’d seen would come flooding back to her. She didn’t want to think about the man who’d been pulled from her arms when they’d almost escaped or the mutilated bodies of fellow ladies in waiting that she’d been asked to identify after the killing had stopped. Mourning the dead wouldn’t help now when she was surrounded by the sick and injured.
She hardly knew what she was doing here, she’d become almost as powerless as she had been running through the ballroom towards the doors signalling safety. But Levana had been lucky to escape with only cuts and bruises and one slightly deeper wound on her arm, so she was at least able to help the more skilled physicians that had made it out safely.
Cora reached out and gently touched Levana’s arm, not wanting to startle the girl since she seemed so deep in thought. “I brought some food, you need to eat.” She knew from the last attack that Levana truly hated it when other werewolves attacked, and she wasn’t a part of the negative stereotyping of people who thought that all werewolves were monsters just because of one group. “Just take a short break.”
