PUTS CUPCAKE ON A SHELF WHERE SHE KNOWS HER ASSHOLE BROTHER WON’T EAT IT
out of sleeping pills more like literally fucking kill me ))
Bleach and Ballrooms
Her annoyance only seemed to bounce back and radiate his anger more, the scowl in the mirror met with an uglier one, a heavy crease to the younger vendettas brow that forces his eye patch to crinkle along with it, sharp angles of his elbows and shoulders hunched up into a defensive shape of spikes. She was right, he’d of supported her more than wholeheartedly if not for the blond Deluxian he knew was the cause of all this, that she was only doing it thanks to some bastard telling her she wasn’t good enough as is.
Jimmy didn’t understand their relationship, hadn’t even when he’d argued with Rose about it, more times than he’d care to admit and she’d tried to explain with unsubtle undertones of ‘you’re just jealous’. Why she’d want to date someone from Deluxe was beyond him in the first place, but picking one of the most violent, and messed up of them, was ten times worse.
He’d told her several times if she needed more thrills in her life, there were better ways of finding them than dealing with someone who’d hurt her. He’d been kicked out of her room these past few months when usually he was welcome as she was changing, only because he couldn’t stop checking her over for any marks left by the blond, and any excuse to drive up to Deluxe and paint his ride with a new coat of red ala Emery.
"I’ll stop being a baby, Rose, when you stop dating a fucking maniac." Raising his voice a little, he reached out and dug his feet into the bed until it knocked her makeup supplies off the bottom, attempting to get her to stay for even a few more seconds so he could talk some sense into her. Even Jenzen, he’d of preferred Rose date his birdy friend than his vulture brother. "Because, he’s a fucking nutcase! Rose, can’t you see that this is a big fucking mistake? Nothing screams trap like ‘hey babe, I’m taking you up to deluxe tonight, you know where the tyrant who hates motorcity and who I wORK FOR will be?’” Gritting his teeth, Red’s attempt at Emery’s accent made him lower his voice, speak like he had an impediment and keep it as deep and dumb as the blond sounded in his head.
"………… You don’t look like shit, by the way." Leaning his cheek on the crook of his elbow, he finally looked up to look in the mirror again, meeting her eyes through the mirror reflection. "Y’look great. …..That cunt ain’t going to appreciate it."
As he speaks, the more Red’s tone starts to sound (unbeknownst to her) a little more like Rose’s defensive whining - they were twins, after all -, the girl’s pretty face contorts into wrinkles, a flash of teeth showing behind the pierced lip. If she was paying attention to her reflection, and not her brothers, she would remember to take the metal ring out, but she wasn’t. The blonde was glaring daggers at her counterpart, waiting for the time when her words were going to explode out of her throat, but they never did, sedated and quelled by something she didn’t know she was holding onto so tightly.
Guilt.
She’d heard it from Jimmy, she’d heard it from Jenzen — fuck, she’d even heard it from Foxy a few times; Emery was not the ideal boyfriend. Even when presented with a list of pros and cons, the green-eyed vendetta had found some way to dismiss the concerns, to give into her own twisted lusts and romantic desires, to make herself innocent. But even now, as her blonde hair swung over a shoulder when she sharply turned to face her brother, the hair-iron was brandished more as a weapon than a shield. There was maybe a half a nerve left and Jimmy was getting on it. But fixed it within the same lapse, and Rose let her eyes soften as his voice did the same. It took a few beats, but as most of their arguements ended, silence poured into near-silent words, apologetic.
"I know I don’t look like shit, y’douchebag," she laughed, weakly, putting the iron down nice and easy.
"Y’just … Emery, he’s not…." Like always, she couldn’t find the words.
"….it’s just one night."
They were two sides of one coin, and even though Red couldn’t perceive the fact his voice had taken on the same grating tone of kids fighting on the playground, or more aptly, the way they usually fought, he could feel the tightness coiling in his throat. The strain of his words was hard too, making him feel more bitter than protective, as he spat them over the metal poked through his tongue and lip, clacking one against his molars and sucking the other into his mouth with an annoying pop to fill the silence, a quiet last word between them.
Emery was a monster. Maybe the younger of the vendetta’s was overstating it, but it didn’t feel that way. It wasn’t just Red’s experience, it was a track record of Emery’s abuse and a rainbow of crimes that couldn’t be placed in the ‘cute rebel’ category of destruction, nor in the ‘vendetta’ sibling level, it was off the charts. Still, he felt bad, whatever he was muttering about quickly shut up as she turned with the iron, his own gaze softening, letting the silence wave over both of their heated bodies.
It was silent, but he raised his hand, gave a daft smile he often saved for only her, lopsided and curled as he flicked his painted nail against his lipring, before pointing one thumb out towards hers. Defeated, not by Rose but by the lack of willing to turn this into a chair throwing arguement, he kept his own voice soft, stretched out his feet and patted the bed next to him, the place she always sat when he helped her clasp her necklaces, perfected the back of her hair with simple spritz of salt spray.
"Better take that out, don’t want those metal detectors going off."
"…. That being said, for this one night, m’gonna ask you take mace, or your killer heels. One wrong move, turn the fucker into a girl. He’d /love/ that."
She never imagined it would be such a difficult balance -- her brother was her best friend and the closest human being to her on planet Earth. When Jimmy made friends, started hanging out with the Burners, Rose denied her loneliness in a blitz, because no matter who he was seeing, none of them were his sister. They'd never leave each other - a promise they'd made a thousand times at night over stained pillows.
What a horrible thing to admit - that Rose's boyfriend was the one putting a wedge between them. Emery wasn't perfect - Hell, he wasn't even nice most of the time, but there was something about him that Rose liked, thirsted for, and needed to know better. So when he asked her to attend this Deluxian Ball or whatever the fuck wording he had used that made it seem even SOMEWHAT appealing, she agreed.
It was also important that he mentioned alcohol.
Sandy hair was still in the process of being tied back when Gloria followed her brother's invitation, sighing as she left the bathroom and stood just before him, hands rested on either side of his face.
"I've told you a thousand times, y'dont gotta worry about me."
"I'll be safe, y'know I will."
Taller than him even only temporarily, the blonde bent at the hip to lean down and press her bare lips to his forehead, a silent affirmation of her promise.

Oh my God is this even happening
Rose snorts so hard it knocks her nosering out of place, so she fixes it.
"Honey, if I hadn’t heard you speak, I woulda thought y’were a boy."
Julie is beginning to suspect that this woman is up to her nosering in bullshit. Lips pursed and one eye narrowed, she crosses her arms and looks sidelong at the stranger with the candyfloss locks.
"Really. What kind of guys are you hanging out with that wear lipstick and heels?”
Whatever hostility is being created, Rose takes it with lightheartedness, because frankly, this is how most conversations go.
"Have y'met my brother?"
"That was a joke. Kinda."
Like the conversation transitioned faster than a man with a gun in his face, the Vendetta shifts her weight and puts a hand out to the shorter girl.
"M'Rose."

Oh.
Whoops.
The twin just tilts her head, a coy shift of her shoulders at the first comment, a little more insensitive than she’d intended. Oh well, no reason to apologize to a stranger.
"Yer a sharp one."
Julie is so close to rolling her eyes but at the same time she’s curious. Has she been doing Motorcity fashion all wrong this whole time and nobody said anything?
"Alright, alright. So what’s wrong with my clothes?" She might as well hear this chick out.

Mama blinked then gave a little nod “No they is. My middle boy; Junior; he started the whole thing up. Runs it” she shrugged “Their business is their business though; I mean I don’t approve of some of it but…I done talked at ‘em til I’m blue in the face about it so they gonna have ta make their own mistakes.” the woman turned her head slightly, a worried expression coming to her face “They ain’t done yew wrong has they?”
The painted nail at the tip of Rose’s finger is now in her mouth, chewing thoughtfully on the polish. There’s a smirk, after a minute, and her shoulders tug forwards in a laugh.
"Oh, okay, see, now I get it- "
"The Mama’s Boys. It makes sense now.”
"Oh whut yew thought it was just a name? I don’t think I know any self-respectin’ gang that would call themselves tha mama’s boys without a mama" The woman laughed quietly "but yeah I’m that mama.”
"And here I thought 'Mama' was just an enigma,"
Rose's posture had changed, straightening out a little and standing on the balls of her feet, rocking. It was a show of comfort, to show that she felt confident in the situation and was maybe even enjoying the redhead's presence a little bit. Which, granted the greeting, might have been a little misleading.
"Well, 'Mama'," the shorter girl puts out a hand, "I'm Rose."

Instead of sneering at her brother, Rose just scowls at her reflection, a wrinkle of the nose as she drags both hands, in unison, through the waves of sandy hair that now decorated her head. It was frustrating - when she knew for a fact that the younger Vendetta would support her if only for the blond boyfriend not being involved. If, one day, she woke up with the inclination to go back to her roots (pun intended), he’d be sitting on the counter beside her and assisting in bleaching the parts she didn’t get to.
But because it was for Emery, even just for the night, Jimmy had gone bitter like he was one of the many expired goods in the sibling’s shared fridge. She sighs so loudly it almost fogs the mirror in front of her face.
"Stop bein’ such a baby, Jim, for fuck’s sake," Rose doesn’t hide her frustration, picking up the hair-curlers with more aggression than was necessary, focusing on her own reflection and the sour expression it wore. "S’only for the night, why’re you bein’ such a brat about this?"
As much as it sounded like an excuse, it was a promise Rose had made to herself — she didn’t care how much Emery had coerced her, kissed her scalp and promised how beautiful she’d look with any hair color, she had no intentions of staying blonde. Jimmy was right about that — it looked too normal, too natural, too…Deluxian.
She was trying to look like Emery’s lover, not his sibling.
"Yeah." Jezebel gave a small, soft smile "Five of ‘em now. Oldest is twenty one…youngest is fourteen." the woman held up one hand "All boys; all a handful and a half. Rowdy teenagers, and all." she laughed quietly "I don’t regret a one of ‘em though."
……………five young boys with accents like the redhead in front of her. The freckles help, as well, and as Rose taps her lower lip, she’s really doing more thinking than listening, eyebrow raised. It sounded familiar, and not really in a good way, but lacking enough experience with the boys to call judgement upon them, let alone their….mama.
"They ain’t in a gang, are they?" she asks, more curiosity in her tone than humor.

The woman shrugged slightly “I was born down here. My family has stayed in the same house for upwards of five generations. I wasn’t about to leave my house for a man and a pipe dream. I had four kids at that time and….I wasn’t about ta take that risk.”
Well, that was a more …. honorable response than Rose was expecting, and it shows in her face. To her, there was a lot of things in life that were classified “important enough to care about”, and family was at the top of the list. Her parents had made the executive decision to up and move across the planet, learn a new language, and adapt to Deluxian life all while Rose and her brother were still in the process of learning to speak.
No wonder the woman was so attached to her home - Deluxe had to be just as much a difference for Jezebel as much as it was for Rose.
Her tone softens a little as a result, shoulder’s rolling as she relaxes them.
"That, uh… make sense." there’s no bite in her words like before.
"Sso, kids, eh?"
